Smart Grid investments have the potential for helping meet these goals, and this paper presents a series of analyses that evaluate the incremental economic benefits of smart grid automation investments. Smart Grid investments provide a number of benefits to customers. Here only benefits that can be objectively quantified in terms of economic savings are considered. Smart Grid automation investments in this work include investments in feeder efficiency, automated switches, and coordinated control of capacitor banks, voltage regulators and load tab changers. Benefits that come from these investments are improved efficiency, reduced demand, shortened storm restoration time, and improved performance during reconfiguration events. The analyses used in the evaluation are very detailed, involving hourly, quasi-steady state power flow analysis over a ten year period for calculating energy consumption and costs, and Monte Carlo simulations for six different storm types. Solar energy promises a high potential for Turkey as well as producing solar related products such as solar cells, PV modules and inverters which will enable a smart urbanization through smart grids. Certification of these products brings customer satisfaction and high product quality. In this paper, the importance of solar PV module certification and the factory inspection process is emphasized which plays a key role in smart development of cities. It enables a link between customers and electric power utilities. The AMI is also responsible for transmitting requests, commands, pricing-information and software updates from the authorized parties to the smart meters. As the AMI security threats from inside and outside grow exponentially; confidentiality, authentication, integrity and non-repudiation security services should be deployed to overcome possible threats. In this paper we give an overview on the main components and security requirements of the AMI and present possible security solutions.
