The average model is derived in the dq0 rotating reference frame. A technique for representing the commutation inductance located on the DC side of the rectifier is also presented. Parameter estimation is incorporated in the average model through the use of polynomial fits. The use of the average model reduces computation time by a factor of 5. In this research, we apply to the simulation of the ARCP converter physics-based IGBT and power diode models, which have been proven robust in the hard switching circuit simulation. The induction machine has two sets of stator three-phase windings spatially shifted by 30 electrical degrees. Three key issues are discussed: (1) the machine model based on two different approaches, (2) two different current regulation schemes to cope with the inherent asymmetries of the drive and (3) the decoupling schemes for high speed operation. The analytical calculation of the relative on-times of the active switching states and of the DC link current reference value is treated in detail for active and deactivated boost output stage. Based on the theoretical considerations a control scheme which allows to control the system for any mains condition without change-over of the control structure is described. Furthermore, digital simulations as well as experimental results are shown which confirm the proposed control concept for different mains failure conditions and for the transition from balanced mains to a failure condition and vice versa. The control strategy combines current programming and variable frequency operation, leading to negligible quantization effects. Both output voltage accuracy and stability are improved with respect to traditional digital solutions. The new architecture is designed to provide active current sharing and adaptive voltage positioning functions. A detailed description of the controller is given with reference to a single-phase buck converter. Extension to multiphase converters is straightforward. The control algorithm has been implemented into a commercial FPGA device by using only 2200 equivalent gates. An equivalent Thevenin source in the frequency-domain, including the voltage source and source impedance, is employed to model the main EMI noise emission source - the IGBT switching. The modeling approach for both the differential mode (DM) and common mode (CM) noise source is studied. The methodology is verified experimentally using a simple, controlled testbed. This paper studies continuous and discontinuous PWM for this inverter. Detailed analysis of discontinuous modulation shows that the average switching frequency is not directly proportional to the carrier or sampling frequency, since additional switching transitions occur between different regions of discontinuity. At typical switching frequencies for high power applications (up to 2 kHz) these additional transitions contribute significantly to the inverter's total losses, so that a proper comparison of the harmonic performance can only be carried out under constant loss conditions with varying carrier frequency. This comparison is performed for a typical industrial medium voltage inverter. The paper then considers the major issues of neutral-point voltage balancing and loss distribution within the inverter, for the identified optimal modulation schemes.","PeriodicalId":236199,"journal":{"name":"IEEE 34th Annual Conference on Power Electronics Specialist, 2003.
