Such rate limiting schemes drop all excess-traffic when the request arrival rate goes above a certain empirically calculated threshold. Flooding based DoS/DDoS attacks like TCP SYN Attack does not exhibit any special signature except that their arrival-rate is high enough to overwhelm the victim. Hence it is very difficult to differentiate between legitimate and attack traffic as they share the same signature. As a result, rate limiting schemes cause heavy collateral damage by dropping out legitimate traffic [15]. In this paper we propose a novel packet marking mechanism which not only mitigates DoS/DDoS attacks by filtering but also reduces collateral damage significantly by selectively dropping attack packets based on its packet mark while allowing the legitimate traffic to be processed smoothly. Our packet mark contains fingerprint of the path in each single packet which allows us in identifying attack packets coming from various sources even in case of IP spoofing. Our scheme does not require any protocol specific knowledge and can generically filter out attack packets for all kinds of flooding attacks. We have extensively evaluated our packet marking scheme. Results show effectiveness of our scheme in filtering attack traffic. Our scheme inflicts extremely low collateral damage to legitimate traffic while quickly detecting and selectively filtering attack traffic.","PeriodicalId":235770,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Computer and Communication Technology","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124011600","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Though we can predict certain patterns from our database manually, but as soon as size of data increases (becomes in terabytes) it becomes difficult and tedious to deduce the important information from huge database (or data warehouse). Various data-mining algorithms exist to identify possible patterns in data. 1Rule algorithm is one such algorithm but is capable of classifying rule based on only one attribute. This paper extends 1Rule algorithm by classifying more rules based on multiple attributes, so that more accurate decision or prediction are made thereby improving revenue and reducing costs in a company. 1Rule creates a rule for a data based on one attribute, it chooses the rule that gives the lowest classification error after comparing the error rates from all the attributes. In our work we identified and create more rules based on multiple attributes by considering the lowest error attribute as the new classified attribute.","PeriodicalId":235770,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Computer and Communication Technology","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122535994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

OFDM system utilize the cyclic prefix (CP) to mitigate the effect of inter symbol interference (ISI) produced by the multipath effect of wireless channel. The CP insertion only mitigates the effect of inter block interference of OFDM symbols, whereas the intra block interference remain present in the OFDM symbol. The intra block OFDM symbol interference degrades the error performance of the OFDM system. In order to improve the error performance of the OFDM system forward error correction scheme can be utilized. Many FEC schemes for single carrier and multicarrier systems have been proposed in the literature. Convolution and LDPC codes are two popular coding schemes for FEC. In this paper we have considered Convolution and LDPC codes for improving the error performance of OFDM system. The BER performance of convolution ally coded & LDPC coded OFDM is evaluated for various code rates in AWGN and fading channel. We have also compared the performance of coded OFDM system with an OFDM system without FEC.","PeriodicalId":235770,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Computer and Communication Technology","volume":"67 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132181824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The choice of best time signal specific wavelet is very important for accounting different frequencies present in a signal. The vanishing moment of the mother wavelet defines that more the order of vanishing moment, the higher is the frequency function of the mother wavelet, and the Wavelet transform is more sensitive to process the high frequency component. In this work, we have proposed a modified wavelet transformation technique where a general wavelet which consists of a weighted sum of several wavelet components i.e. a mother wavelet and its higher order derivatives is used. Parameters such as correction factor and squeezing effect have been introduced in the higher order derivatives to serve our purpose. A predefined membership function influences a particular wavelet component to boost up a certain frequency range. This leads to better selectivity and covers a wider frequency range. By proposing this generalized solution the problem of choosing the best time signal specific wavelet can be countered effectively. The transformation technique has been implemented upon a stationary and a non-stationary signal.","PeriodicalId":235770,"journal":{"name":"2012 Third International Conference on Computer and Communication Technology","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2012-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126485276","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
