FPGAs are being used in complex roles in critical systems. The purpose of this paper is to present the basic ideas behind the building of safety related loo2 system on FPGA platform. Since systems with a single processor (loo1) provide cost effective inputs with a safety integrity rating of SIL1 2, a dual architecture (loo2) which provide high safety integrity to a rating of SIL 3, is presented. In the first part the complete design of a simple FPGA 16 bit RISC processor and a system on-chip design in synthesizable VHDL is presented and the safety demands for the loo2 architecture is given. In the second half of the paper, the implementation of the RISC architecture and of the loo2 architecture and some running applications are shown.","PeriodicalId":234556,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/ACS International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116910668","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The value of such commodity derives from the ability of firms to identify consumers and charge them personalized prices flj. We argue that if consumers' identity and personal information is such a valuable asset, should not consumers benefit from their asset as well? In this paper, we propose a negotiation process between an online consumer agent and an online seller. The online consumer agent acts on behalf of consumers to maximize their social welfare. In our model, the agent derives a quantified privacy risk for each private data and uses it to determine a cost premium value to make the bargaining process manageable. We also provide a computational example to evaluate the model.","PeriodicalId":234556,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/ACS International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116037610","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a fundamental challenge to ensure efficient accesses to such widely distributed data sets. Creating replicas to a suitable site by data replication strategy can increase the system performance. It shortens the data access time and reduces bandwidth consumption. In this paper, a dynamic data replication mechanism is proposed, which is called Latest Access Largest Weight (LALW). LALW selects a popular file for replication and calculates a suitable number of copies and grid sites for replication. By setting a different weight for each data access record, the importance of each record is differentiated. The data access records in the nearer past have higher weight. It indicates that these records have higher value of references. In other words, the data access records in the long past have lower reference values. A Grid simulator OptorSim is used to evaluate the performance of this dynamic replication strategy. The simulation results show that LAHW successfully increases the effective network usage. It means that the LALW replication strategy can find out a popular file and replicates it to a suitable site.","PeriodicalId":234556,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/ACS International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116345663","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our proposed scheme the number of active receive antennas for spatial multiplexing MIMO detection is determined at the rate of the large scale channel variation which is a function of the path loss and shadowing parameters, while the link adaptation is updated as fast as the coherence time. Hence, in our proposed scheme, the rate of antenna selection is slower than the link adaptation, which is motivated by the fact that the portion of the power consumption is dominated by RF chains during the initial period of the switched-on terminal and some wireless service does not require the large scale mobility. From our analysis we determine the number of the active receive antennas to achieve a certain target ergodic capacity as well as a target link performance and evaluate bit error rate, average spectral efficiency and the outage probability for two MIMO detection schemes such as maximum likelihood and zero-forcing. Some selected numerical examples are finally presented and discussed to illustrate the tradeoff offered by this scheme.","PeriodicalId":234556,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/ACS International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128641413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As such we are able to keep the quality experienced by the end user at a satisfactory level without cost-intensive subjective tests. We design and implement a terminal which includes a content browser providing presentation, navigation and interaction with MPEG-21 digital item declaration (MPEG-21 DID) in order to support universal media access (UMA). We optimized the architecture in a client-server distributed approach with Web Service support. This terminal enables the MPEG-21 standard compliant content accessible on different terminal devices via common Web browsers. Such a design strategy illustrates a next-generation multimedia terminal supporting inter-operability in multimedia content adaptation over a heterogeneous delivery chain.","PeriodicalId":234556,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/ACS International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128691193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This when coupled with telemedicine could help care providers provide better individualized therapy more frequently. Currently, diabetics might get 15 minutes of interaction with a health expert during a checkup, and in that amount of time the physician must quickly evaluate the patient's health to offer therapy advice. The Intelligent Diabetes Assistant (IDA) addresses this problem by remotely collecting data, instantaneously sharing that data with a physician, and automatically processing the data to reveal important patterns. The system makes data collection more efficient for the patient, and it will make data analysis more efficient for the care team. We have conducted a two week longitudinal study tracking the lifestyle, nutrition, and blood glucose readings of 10 diabetics using IDA.","PeriodicalId":234556,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/ACS International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122364857","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each client program needs to access different pieces/views of the same domain object. Our approach, called distributed view programming, tries to address both problems and in particular, we address delegation problem in view-based systems. At any given point of time, an object offers a different set of behaviors depending of the active views in that time. Therefore, a client/application user may select a subset of existing functionalities of that object. The core object forwards a function call to a view that has to return it to core object. In distributed platforms, there is no need to support delegation in EJB Corba or .Net because the separation of an object and its aspects doesn't exist. We discuss the delegation model and security issues.","PeriodicalId":234556,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/ACS International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132882960","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed method utilizes the natural multi-label and hierarchical intrinsic nature of proteins to build a multi-label and hierarchical classifier for predicting protein folds. The classifier predicts protein folds in two stages, at the first stage, it predicts the protein structural class, and in the second stage, it predicts the protein fold. When comparing our technique with SVM, naive Bayes, and boosted C4.5 we get a higher accuracy more than SVM and better than naive Bayes when using the composition, secondary structure and hydrophobicity feature attributes, and give higher accuracy than C4.5 when using composition, secondary structure, hydrophobicity, and polarity feature attributes. MuLAM was used as a basic classifier in the hierarchy of the implemented framework. Two major modifications were made to MuLAM, namely: the pheromone update and term selection strategies of MuLAM were altered.","PeriodicalId":234556,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/ACS International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115316500","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since FxLMS algorithm appears to be the best choice as a controller filter, researchers tend to improve performance of ANC systems by enhancing and modifying this algorithm. This paper proposes a new version of FxLMS algorithm. In many ANC applications an online secondary path modelling method using a white noise as a training signal is required to ensure convergence of the system. This paper also proposes a new approach for online secondary path modelling in feedfoward ANC systems. The proposed algorithm stops injection of the white noise at the optimum point and reactivate the injection during the operation, if needed, to maintain performance of the system. Benefiting new version of FxLMS algorithm and not continually injection of white noise makes the system more desirable and improves the noise attenuation performance. Comparative simulation results indicate effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":234556,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE/ACS International Conference on Computer Systems and Applications","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121683044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
