While these services play a crucial role in meeting the diverse needs of students in Sri Lanka, research indicates operational challenges (Buddhiprabha, 2016)2. This article presents findings from a survey study conducted to explore how school guidance and counselling units in Sri Lanka can contribute to resolving educational problems faced by adolescents. The main research study employed a mixed-methods design, incorporating 275 students, 24 class teachers, 5 principals and 5 counselling teachers in the Walasmulla Educational zone in Sri Lanka. The data collection involved the use of questionnaires and interviews. Quantitative analysis was conducted using percentages and charts, while qualitative analysis relied on summaries descriptive essays and structured compositions. Results highlights prevalent educational problems among adolescents, predominantly cognitive issues. Challenges related to studying, exams, the learning process, and external factors were also identified. Despite efforts by school guidance and counselling units to address these challenges, they have not been entirely successful. Notably, students who received direct counselling support reported significant assistance in overcoming their educational hurdles. This paper explores the intricate relationship between soft skills development and language acquisition. By analyzing the impact of soft skills such as communication, critical thinking, empathy, and cultural awareness on language learning outcomes, this study aims to shed light on the importance of integrating soft skills training into language education programs. Through a review of relevant literature and case studies, this paper highlights the positive influence of soft skills on language proficiency, intercultural competence, and overall learning success. The findings underscore the need for educators to foster the development of soft skills alongside language skills to empower learners to thrive in diverse linguistic contexts. Soft skills are essential to language learning success because they improve learners' ability to communicate effectively, collaborate, and adapt to diverse cultural and linguistic environments. This article explores the significance of language acquisition through soft skills using a questionnaire comprising 14 questions categorized into 3 main sections. Each section contains 4 questions about a particular aspect that was randomly assigned. Responses were gathered from a diverse sample of individuals from universities and colleges in Kazakhstan. Hutagalung","doi":"10.33306/mjssh/291","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.33306/mjssh/291","url":null,"abstract":"Mahabharata is the longest epic poem and a product of ancient Hindu civilisation, written post Ramayana between 3rd century BCE and the 3rd century CE. Scholars unanimously agree the Mahabharata is a Hindu moral treatise. However, the fundamental moral values relating to the family as depicted in the epic is very much understudied, notably the element of respect given to the elders. The mainstream interpretations of the Mahabharata text focus primarily on its spiritual element, limiting its application and relevance to wider moral living. In reality, the epic promotes family values, notably the enduring respect for older family members by the younger ones even when they treat the latter unjustly. This paper contributes to literature on morality, namely the value of respect as discussed and portrayed in Mahabharata. Respect is a universal value; however, this moral value as discussed in Mahabharata is unique and worthy to be promoted as a moral ideal because it has significant scientific and cultural implications. Therefore, the current study further seeks to identify moral values associated with family life, namely respect for the elderly. Relevant data is extracted and later analysed using Hermeneutic Approach, while Murray Bowen's Family Systems Theory is utilised to understand intra-familial relationship. Kohlberg's Moral Development Theory meanwhile is used to delineate the moral phases of important characters. Certain methods and expressions are used in the epic that reflect familial respect, namely: i) Salutatory Respect; ii) Acquiescent Respect; iii) Consultation Respect; iv) Linguistic Respect; v) Gift Respect and Reverence. Thus, figurative language in advertisement is one of the strategies needed to persuade the readers. However, the use of figurative language in advertisements in an insensitive way without knowing the types and functions of figurative language will make the advertisements less attractive and persuasive. This qualitative approach study attempts to analyse the type and functions of the figurative language used in women’s clothing advertisements on Instagram using content analysis. The theory of figurative language by McQuarrie and Mick (1996) is used to identify the types of figurative language used in this study. An analysis of a series of collections of women’s clothing advertisements from five online shops shows that there are eleven types of figurative language, namely rhyme, chime, assonance, alliteration, anaphora, epistrophe, antithesis, hyperbole, rhetorical question, metaphor, and homonym. The findings show that using figurative language in women’s clothing advertisements on Instagram would attract the readers, give a strong impression, memorable, and satisfy the customers’ needs. Overall, this study suggests that figurative language as a language of advertisement is essential to attract and persuade the readers and influence their purchasing decision. The purpose of this study is to identify the leadership styles of school headmaster and the extent to which headmaster play a role in ensuring the excellence of teachers, as well as the factors considered by teachers and headmaster in ensuring the effectiveness of schools in Melaka. A total of 15 purposively selected informants, representing various levels of leadership and experience, participated in the study. This is a qualitative study where data were obtained through face-to-face interviews. Data were analyzed by constructing themes and using continuous comparative analysis techniques. The study identified five main leadership styles practiced by school headmaster and four primary roles played by headmaster in ensuring the excellence of teachers. The research also found three main responsibilities played by both headmaster and teachers in ensuring the effectiveness of the school. From the perspective of the spiritual and cultural value of tourism, tourism is of great significance to cultivate sentiment, soothe mood and cultivate aesthetics. Through some previous literature, it can often be found that tourism motivation research is only a small part of a large category of tourism behavior research, so in-depth study of tourists' motivation, what is the significance of the tourism industry for the entire tourism behavior? This research adopts the research method of quantitative analysis, sets up 34 items, collects questionnaires in Huangshan, Anhui Province, and analyzes the tourism motivation of rural tourists by collecting and analyzing 298 valid questionnaires. The findings suggest that it is necessary to strengthen management, integrate tourism resources, pay attention to the personal safety of tourists and environmental protection of scenic spots, create well-known brands, and take the path of sustainable development in the development of Anhui's tourism industry. This study aims to examine the use of HOTS elements among secondary school Tamil teachers in terms of knowledge, understanding, and implementation of HOTS in the teaching and delivery of Ceyyul and Mozhiyani. This study outlines three objectives, namely, identifying the teacher's HOTS knowledge in the teaching and delivery of Ceyyul and Mozhiyani, studying the teacher's HOTS skills in the teaching and delivery of Ceyyul and Mozhiyani and reviewing the implementation of HOTS teachers in the teaching and delivery of Ceyyul and Mozhiyani. The study uses a qualitative approach and is carried out by the case study method. Data will be obtained through interviews, discussions with focus groups, and document analysis. This study requires 10 Tamil teachers who teach form 4 and 5 Tamil subjects to be the respondents of the study in 10 secondary schools. The data collected will be analyzed using coding analysis. The significance of this study is to assist teachers in understanding and developing HOTS elements in teaching as well as improving pupils' thinking skills. Grammar guides pupils to write and read accurately and clearly. However, previous studies have shown that Tamil primary school pupils are unable to fully master Tamil grammar due to lack of interest and participation in Tamil grammar learning activities. This leads to the need for improvement in the teaching and learning process. Industrial Revolution 4.0 promotes PdPc activities with the use of digital technology. In this era of globalization, the integration of digital learning in school teaching is one of the new approaches. Providing pedagogical activities with the use of learning materials such as kahoot, wordwall, quizez and others, created free of charge on the internet, is widely used by teachers. This literature study uses a qualitative approach based on research on past studies related to the implementation of gamification in education. In this qualitative study, research papers, books, and papers related to the study were selected and data collected and written in a descriptive approach.
