First, the digital features of the contact pattern were extracted, and the equivalent misalignment was obtained by an optimal method according to the minimum deviation of the contact path. Second, a pinion target surface whose performance under misalignment was consistent with the original gear in standard position was built, and a pinion surface with good meshing performance under misalignment was redesigned with equivalent misalignment. Third, the flank modification was carried out to cut down on the loaded transmission error of gear under misalignment. Through simulations, it is found the transmission error and the contact path of redesign gear considering misalignment were the same as original gear in standard position. The loaded transmission error amplitude of original gear under misalignment was 43.91% higher than original gear in standard position, and the loaded transmission error amplitude of redesign gear after optimization under misalignment was 44.73% lower than original gear in standard position and 61.60% lower than original gear under misalignment. The tooth surface stress of redesigned gear after optimization under misalignment was also significantly improved. This proposed redesign method, which considers misalignment on the basis of ease-off, can greatly improve the loaded meshing quality of gear under actual working conditions.","PeriodicalId":23285,"journal":{"name":"Transactions of The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136061132","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The intermittent characteristic of wind speed leads to unstable wind power production; therefore, a storage system is typically needed at wind power farms to stabilize the power output. This project aims to develop a power storage system planning model to optimize the power transfer between wind turbines and storage devices on an hourly basis to stabilize power output and maximize annual net earnings. The developed model utilizes the dynamic programming technique, and it is applied to a case study of the Wolfe Island Wind Farm in Ontario, Canada, for the year of 2020. Two scenarios with different power output tolerance considerations (i.e., tolerance ranges based on 6- and 8-hour subperiods) are analyzed to compare the fluctuations of power output and the total net earnings. The optimized number of storage devices is also discussed. The developed model can provide technical support for the design and operation of power storage systems at wind power farms.","PeriodicalId":23285,"journal":{"name":"Transactions of The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45914294","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The matrix filtering is firstly carried out with the fault case database and the fault cause symptom Boolean matrix according to the fault types and characteristics of machine tool angle head. On the basis of the combination of multiple fault causes obtained from the initial filtering, the Euclidean distance method is used to narrow the results of fault causes filtering. The BP neural network model with weight vector is established and optimized to perform the accurate diagnosis. Thermoelectric refrigeration is an innovative way to use additional energy to cool and reserve cooling. In this research, a Photovoltaic-thermoelectric refrigeration system capable of sustaining vaccine storage within the limit of 2 to 8 ℃ has been established by experimentally optimizing its volume and performance. The design specification is to cool the volume using forced convection to the desired temperature range in less than thirty minutes and sustain retained heat for at least the next hour. The experimental research is divided into two stages: the first determines the optimal volume of vaccine storage under different testing conditions using only grid power, and the second analyses storage performance using solar energy through PV integration. The solar direct drive and the solar drive with battery support have been timed, revealing a holding period of 4 hours 46 minutes and 5 hours 29 minutes, respectively. The refrigerator's design criteria, prospective characteristics, and final design are all thoroughly highlighted. Finally, we conclude that this research will likely benefit the modelling and analysis of thermoelectric cooling systems.","PeriodicalId":23285,"journal":{"name":"Transactions of The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-08-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49190816","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The results show that, under the braking condition, the interface has the stick-slip motion, indicating that the system is in the state of instability; the longitudinal relative slip is unevenly distributed, the peak position of the initial corrugation has a large longitudinal relative slip, and the transverse relative slip in the initial corrugation area is significantly larger than that in other areas, indicating that the initial corrugation will continue to develop and have a remarkable transverse wear trend. Under the non-braking condition, there is no stick-slip motion at the interface, and the longitudinal and transverse relative slip values are less than the corresponding results under the braking condition. The cause of corrugation in the vehicle braking section is the wheel-rail unstable stick-slip motion triggered by the vehicle braking, and the fixed operating mode of the train provides the wavelength-fixing condition for the development of the initial corrugation, which leads to its continuous deterioration.","PeriodicalId":23285,"journal":{"name":"Transactions of The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41660559","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The dynamic characteristics of the internal tension, running resistance and multi-contact interface load of the scraper chain are the theoretical basis of the research. Firstly, a method for obtaining periodic cyclic dynamic load history is proposed, and then the model of single chain scraper conveyor for continuous shearer is constructed by using RecurDyn and simulation structure. Finally, the influence of parameters such as conveying inclination angle and running speed of sleeve scraper chain on the reliable operation of conveying system is determined. The results show that when the conveying angle is 12 °, the scraper conveying system runs stably and the impact between multi-rigid bodies is small. As the chain speed increases from 0.85 m / s to 2.4 m / s, the wear of the conveying system gradually increases, and the contact load distribution of the upper chain plate 2, the upper chain plate 3 and the lower chain plate 3 is seriously worn.","PeriodicalId":23285,"journal":{"name":"Transactions of The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-07-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"42592935","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the switching of different displacement hydraulic pumps will cause a large flow impact on the hydraulic system of the wind turbine, affecting the working characteristics of the wind turbine and the absorption of wind energy. Based on the analysis of the working principle of the digital hydraulic wind turbine, the scheme of 5MW wind turbine is designed and the AMESim modele is established. The dynamic characteristics of the digital hydraulic wind turbine under two switching modes are compared. An advance valve closing control strategy is proposed to reduce the instantaneous flow impact. Simulation results show that the control strategy diminished the system flow shock by about 50% when switching the hydraulic pump. Finally, a hardware-in-loop system of 5.5kW digital hydraulic turbine is built to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy. The research results provide a theoretical basis and technical reference for the efficient utilization of wind energy and stable operation of the digital hydraulic wind turbines.","PeriodicalId":23285,"journal":{"name":"Transactions of The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-07-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49144404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, in this paper, a 2-P(RPS+UPS) parallel mechanism (where S, P, R, and U represent spherical, prismatic, revolute, and universal joints) with four branched chains and six degrees of freedom is proposed and its kinematic characteristics are analyzed. First, the speed of the 2-P(RPS+UPS) parallel mechanism is numerically derived and verified by simulation using ADAMS software. Then, the motion decoupling characteristics of the mechanism are analyzed from the expression of the speed and position relationship between the input and output of the mechanism. To minimize the force on each branch in the workspace, scale optimization of the 2-P(RPS+UPS) mechanism and the Stewart mechanism is performed. Further, analysis of the dexterity, singularity, and workspace of the 2-P(RPS+UPS) mechanism are conducted, and the performance of the mechanism is compared with that of the Stewart mechanism. The proposed parallel mechanism has fewer branches, a simple kinematic model, strong motion decoupling, high bearing capacity, a large workspace, and a low initial position height. Moreover, it can be conveniently transported and stored. Therefore, it has good application prospects in assembly and posture adjustment scenes requiring large workspace.","PeriodicalId":23285,"journal":{"name":"Transactions of The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41421545","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This effect has been studied extensively for internal flow and polymer injection in external flow. More recently, select external flow research has focused on drag reduction for ships where polymer is introduced by ablation of surface coatings. The present article introduces a simple yet effective model for simulating polymer in the boundary layer. That is a step toward a practical methodology for simulating the effect of ablative polymer paint. For the case of zero pressure gradient boundary layers, measured polymer drag reduction can be closely reproduced, to less than 10% error, by modifying the empirical von K'arm'an and van Driest constants in the simple mixing length turbulence model. Potential avenues for implementation in standard commercially available CFD solvers are explored.","PeriodicalId":23285,"journal":{"name":"Transactions of The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-07-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49396951","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The vision-based method as a nondestructive and efficient technology has become an important approach to FOD detection. However, it faces two important challenges: (1) inexhaustible types (almost any object can become FOD) and (2) unpredictable locations (FOD can appear almost anywhere on surface of a product). Therefore, this paper proposes an FOD visual detection method based on doubt–confirmation strategy and aided by assembly models. Firstly, a coarse-to-fine method is designed for feature extraction and registration to align the test image with the reference image. Then, to solve the unpredictable location problem, different types of suspected FOD are extracted from the test image by a combined method of supervision and nonsupervision. Finally, to solve the inexhaustible type problem, an image comparison method based on a Histogram of Line Direction Angle is proposed, and re-recognition rules of suspected FOD established to complete the final discrimination. Experiments are conducted on a product with complex shape, and the results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our approach.","PeriodicalId":23285,"journal":{"name":"Transactions of The Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.9,"publicationDate":"2023-07-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"43089216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
