However, to maximise information gained about the environment, such platforms require increased autonomy to coordinate the actions of multiple UAVs. This has led to the development of flight planning and coordination algorithms designed to maximise information gain during sensing missions. However, these have so far neglected the need to maintain wireless network connectivity. In this paper, we address this limitation by enhancing an existing multi-UAV planning algorithm with two new features that together make a significant contribution to the state-of-the-art: (1) we incorporate an on-line learning procedure that enables UAVs to adapt to the radio propagation characteristics of their environment, and (2) we integrate flight path and network routing decisions, so that modelling uncertainty and the affect of UAV position on network performance is taken into account.","PeriodicalId":232205,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"120 15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126312405","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, the networks must be pro-tected as much as possible to avoid losses. In this paper we propose accurate system for signature generation for Zero-day polymorphic worms. We have designed a novel double-honeynet system, which is able to detect new worms that have not been seen before. We apply Princi-pal Component Analysis (PCA) to determine the most significant substrings that are shared between po-lymorphic worm instances. The experimental results show that the PCA has successfully detected polymorphic worms with zero false positives and zero false negatives.","PeriodicalId":232205,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126547428","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We formulate the problem as a minimum energy routing optimization, which we numerically solve considering a core-network scenario, which can be seen as a worst-case for energy saving performance (as nodes cannot be switched off). To gather full-relief results, we analyze the energy savings in various conditions (i.e., network topology and traffic matrix) and under different technology assumptions (i.e., the energy profile of the network devices). These results give us insight into the potential benefits of different “green” technologies and their interactions. In particular, we show that depending on the topology and traffic matrices, the optimal energy savings can be modest, partly limiting the interest for green routing approaches for some scenarios. At the same time, we also show that the common belief that there is a trade off between green network optimization and performance does not necessarily hold: in the considered environment, green routing has no effect on the main network performances such as maximum link utilization.","PeriodicalId":232205,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130026635","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the services deployed are lacking an efficient mechanism of adaptation to the momentary connectivity conditions which deters the dynamic service delivery according to the momentary preferences of the user's applications. This paper introduces a new mechanism for the adaptation of the services to the momentary network conditions which includes as part of the vertical handover procedures a resource reservation decision according to the preferences of the mobile device and the capabilities of adapatation of the application as advertised during service establishment, enabling a more dynamic service delivery without requiring resource re-reservation procedures. Furthermore, the novel concept is exemplified on the 3GPP Evolved Packet Core and evaluated using the Fraunhofer OpenEPC toolkit implementation.","PeriodicalId":232205,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130037532","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such a process is relatively complex in cellular infrastructures since mobility and user activity patterns may create load fluctuations. This paper introduces energy-aware network re-configuration methods to flexibly re-act to load variations encouraging none or minimal extra energy consumption. Consequently, providing instantaneous CSI knowledge introduces challenges to receiver design and an increase in estimation error and bandwidth waste. In this work we investigate two selection-combining diversity schemes and their achieved gains when perfect instantaneous CSI is not available. An average SNR estimation value at the receiver is used for branch selection, and signal combining is performed with branch balance and unbalance. Channel fading is modeled as a lognormal distribution with spatially correlated samples. BER performance and outage probabilities are analytically characterized. Further, analytical results are verified using computer simulation.","PeriodicalId":232205,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131461396","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current anomaly IDSs are inefficient for real-time detection because of their complex computation. This paper proposes a novel approach to reduce the heavy computational cost of an anomaly IDS. Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and difference distance map are used for selection of significant features. This approach is able to transform high-dimensional feature vectors into a low-dimensional domain. The similarity between new incoming packets and a normal profile is determined using Euclidean distance on the simple, low-dimensional feature domain. The final decision will be made according to a pre-calculated threshold to differentiate normal and abnormal network packets. The proposed approach is evaluated using DARPA 1999 IDS dataset.","PeriodicalId":232205,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131477824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed technique uses high precision soft messages at the variable nodes but scales down the extrinsic message length, which reduces the number of interconnections between variable and check nodes. It also simplifies the check node operation. The effect on performance and complexity of the decoders due to such simplification is analyzed. A prototype model of the proposed decoders compliant with the WiMax application standard has been implemented and tested on Xilinx Virtex 5 FPGA. The implementation results show that the proposed decoders can achieve significant reduction in hardware complexity with comparable decoding performance to that of Min-Sum algorithm based decoders. The proposed decoders are estimated to achieve an average throughput in the range of 6–11 Gbps, even with short code lengths.","PeriodicalId":232205,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122010281","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We focus on multicast in single channel multi-access wireless networks and consider Automatic Repeat reQuest (ARQ) based error control algorithms. We propose a simple NACK based method, called overlapped NACKs, that exploits the physical nature of the transmitted NACK signals in order to achieve a high Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) even in the presence of NACK collisions. As an example, we apply the proposed method to Bluetooth, quantify its reliability and compare the achievable throughput with respect to the multi-unicast case and to an ACK based protocol. Results show that the overlapped NACK method has the potential to substantially increase the throughput over the ACK based protocol and provides good reliability.","PeriodicalId":232205,"journal":{"name":"2010 IEEE Globecom Workshops","volume":"193 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116447048","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
