At the time of South Africa’s transition to democracy in 1994, race-based dispossession was more widespread than in any other African country (Lahiff, 2009). This lesson discusses the process and livelihood impacts of land restitution, which the democratic government of South Africa has used to return historical lands to black and other nonwhite owners who were dispossessed under the racially discriminatory laws and practices of the apartheid state.","PeriodicalId":231699,"journal":{"name":"Returning Home: Housing and Property Restitution Rights for Refugees and Displaced Persons","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2003-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126671103","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
