The effect of these mechanisms has pattern dependency and some data patterns are more vulnerable than other ones. In this paper, we will categorize data patterns taking into account degradation mechanisms and pattern dependency. In addition, we propose several modulation coding schemes to improve the data reliability by transforming original vulnerable data patterns into more robust ones.","PeriodicalId":229123,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"114 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123395723","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, we propose using mutual information to measure the efficiency of the sensing process in a WSN and use the resulting measure to analyze the efficiency in example WSNs. We show that WSNs have inherent causes of inefficiency due to the manner in which their sensors take measurements. We then use ideas from source coding theorems to suggest more efficient WSN designs. Specifically, we show that the sensing functionality of a WSN with sensors that take noisy measurements can actually be more efficient than a WSN with noiseless sensors.","PeriodicalId":229123,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115241789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We define Mobile Object Tracking as a two stage process: 1) detecting the presence of the object in the monitoring area and 2) locating it at each stage of its progression in the area. We propose a Collaborative Tracking Algorithm named CTA. CTA is a distributed protocol that runs on Heterogeneous WSN (HWSN) which consists of two types of sensors: Motion Sensors (MS) and Camera Sensors (CS). The MS deals with the detection phase and then activates the CS based on a probabilistic threshold. In addition to the tracking algorithm, we propose a deployment strategy and study its impact on CTA. The efficiency of our proposed solution is evaluated according to simulation performed. The obtained results are compared to three existing solutions: 1) BASIC solution where only CSs are deployed always in active mode; 2) OCNS (Optimal Camera Node Selection) is cluster-based approach with a CS election and 3) EAOT, our previously proposed algorithm based on heuristic CS wake up. We observe that CTA significantly reduces the tracking cost in term of energy consumption (up to 38.14% of energy saved compared to other algorithms). It also performs tracking (up to 37.5% on the tracking accuracy).","PeriodicalId":229123,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116945623","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Typically, nodes of interconnects are placed in a closed room and are connected using a set of wires through one or more high-end switches with little or no reconfigurability to the interconnect. In this paper, we present a design of wireless switching interconnects using 60GHz technology. The Gigabit, point-to-point and extremely directional links in the 60GHz band are used to replace wired connections in such a network to provide flexibility and reconfigurability. We extend our previous investigation where a high level node placement technique was discussed to arrange nodes into a closed polygon. Here we present an initial design for exact arrangement and placement of the fat-tree nodes, suitable for small to medium size wireless switching interconnects. We argue that creating a completely wireless interconnect is viable, and present mathematical equations and a proof to support the claim.","PeriodicalId":229123,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"15 2 Pt 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123719918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main issue is to compute schedules with the minimum number of timeslots such that data can be aggregated without any collision or interference. While existing works studied the problem under the uniform power model or the unlimited power model, we investigate the problem assuming a more realistic non-uniform power assignment where the maximum power level is bounded. We propose a constant factor approximation algorithm with O(R + X) timeslots, where R is the network radius and X is the link length diversity. Under a reasonable assumption about the link length diversity, the number of timeslots is bounded by O(R + log n) which gives a constant approximation ratio since the lower bound is max{ R, log n}, where n is the number of nodes. Along with the problem of constructing minimum latency data aggregation schedules, we also study two other related optimization problems, namely the Scheduling and Weighted One-Shot Scheduling problems with power control in the SINR model, and provide constant approximation algorithms.","PeriodicalId":229123,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116129557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In current video sharing services, almost all users only watch somebody's uploaded video and discuss their impressions. Communities in the services can be revitalized if the users can communicate their intentions directly via video contents. To address this issue, we use a novel system to make their video with their intentions without breaking original video sources. The system enables users to record their RoI (Region of Interests) information in scenario form and they can reproduce their RoI easily. Scenarios are raw user logs and once they are obtained, it is possible to extract much useful information from them. We have introduced a new measure, interest degree, to find a scenario with common RoIs of the community. In this paper, validity of our proposal and of the measure are evaluated.","PeriodicalId":229123,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"516 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116226088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several works have been done to address the routing issues using the social behaviors of each node. Yet, these algorithms rely purely on the mobility models without considering the social network characteristics. In this paper, we introduce the social relations and profiles among nodes as the key metrics, and our objective is to compute the best forwarding node in routing such that the packet delivery probability is maximized. We propose the Social Relation Opportunistic Routing (SROR) distributed protocol to solve the routing issue based on these metrics. Our results demonstrate the performance of our proposed algorithm through simulation, and we validate it with experiments using ns-2 compared with other existing benchmark methods.","PeriodicalId":229123,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116377691","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wireless networks are becoming ubiquitous and widely used to transfer critical information such as banking accounts, credit cards, e-mails and social network credentials. The more pervasive the wireless technology is going to be, the more important its security issue will be. The current security protocols for wireless networks have addressed the privacy and confidentiality issues, but failed to address other important security attributes such as availability and integrity (e.g. denial of service, session hijacking and MAC address spoofing attacks). In this paper we describe an anomaly-based intrusion detection system for the IEEE 802.11 wireless networks, based on tempo-spatial data analysis technique to detect deviations from normal behaviors that are triggered by wireless network attacks. Our anomaly behavior analysis of the 802.11 protocol is based on n-gram pattern analysis. We apply statistical techniques to quantify the n-transition patterns in the protocol and determine the probabilities of these transitions being normal.","PeriodicalId":229123,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computing, Networking and Communications (ICNC)","volume":"90 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122103131","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
