About 10-20% of all diabetics are accompanied by neurological pain, showing a tendency to increase with age. Clinical aspects are very diverse, from mild abnormalities on nerve conduction tests to severe abnormalities in all sensory, motor, and autonomic nerves; however, sensory symptoms usually precede motor symptoms. Patients typically express sensory symptoms, such as positive and negative symptoms, which decrease the quality of life and have marked clinical implications, such as increased morbidity and mortality. Although Western medical drugs, such as tricyclic antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and narcotic analgesics, are used for diabetic polyneuropathy, a standard treatment has not been established.Case report: A 65-year-old male with paresthesia and pain due to diabetic polyneuropathy was treated with Uchashinki-hwan, acupuncture, electroacupuncture, moxibustion, and Jungsongouhyul pharmacopuncture for 10 days. We used the Toronto Clinical Neuropathy Scoring System, EuroQol-5 Dimension, and Visual Analog Scale to evaluate symptoms. Subsequently, the Neuropathy Scoring System, EuroQol-5 Dimension, and subjective discomfort improved.Conclusion: The present case report suggests that combined Korean medicine treatment might be an effective treatment for paresthesia and pain with diabetic polyneuropathy. Several follow-up studies should be conducted to clarify the effectiveness of the treatment.","PeriodicalId":22826,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Internal Korean Medicine","volume":"19 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81640777","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was reported that 13.7% of patients developed globus sensations after COVID-19 infection. A 73-year-old male patient with a globus sensation after a COVID-19 infection was admitted to the ◯◯ Oriental Medicine Hospital and treated with herbal medicine (Banhahubak-tang, Sosiho-tang). Subjective symptoms of globus sensation were measured with the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) daily and found to reduce. The effect persisted during his admission. The patient in this case was hospitalized for eight days and improved after the administration of Korean medicine, mainly Yangkyuksanwha-tang. We evaluated the patient’s subjective discomfort daily, and the patient kept a diary of hot flashes every day. After treatment, the degree and frequency of hot flashes were greatly improved and continued two weeks after discharge. In addition, the accompanying hyperhidrosis improved from Grade 2 to Grade 0. In patients with hematuria complaining of dysuria and pain, it is necessary to differentiate various causes, including cystitis, nephritis, and prostatitis. After the diagnosis of hemorrhagic cystitis, antibiotics usually treat and prevent further urinary tract infections. In the present case, a 78-year-old female patient with hemorrhagic cystitis presenting with hematuria underwent Korean medical treatment with Jeoryeong-tang-hap-Samul-tang for 29 days. The effect of the treatment was assessed with the hematuria grading scale (HGS) per week, urinalysis per two weeks, and the NRS (numeric rating scale) of dysuria per day. After treatment, both HGS and NRS scores decreased, and protein, blood, and red blood cells (RBCs) in urinalysis improved. This case report suggests that Jeoryeong-tang-hap-Samul-tang might be an effective option for hemorrhagic cystitis patients who continuously take antiplatelets.","PeriodicalId":22826,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Internal Korean Medicine","volume":"26 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"90786893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

There was no limit to the publication period of the papers. A meta-analysis was conducted and classified according to the outcome measurements, such as the total effective rate (TER), serum creatinine (SCr), and blood urea nitrogen (BUN). Data analysis was performed using the RevMan 5.4.1 software, and Cochrane’s risk of bias (ROB) was used to assess the quality of the papers.Results: A total of 12 randomized control trials were selected. The meta-analysis showed that the treatment group combining Yumijihwang-tang and Western medicine was more efficient than the control group using Western medicine alone (RR: 1.29, CI: 1.20 to 1.39 p=<0.00001). The treatment group also reduced the BUN (MD: -2.40, CI: -2.90 to -1.89, p<0.00001) and Scr (MD: -33.34, CI: -40.85 to -25.82, P<0.00001) more than the control group.Conclusion: This study suggests that the combination therapy of Yukmijihwang-tang with Western medicine is effective in treating primary glomerulonephritis.
