In high-tech operative specialties, including neurosurgery, the rise of interest in robotic systems is observed, since these techniques are hoped to increase the precision of the operation. However, for the optimal implementation of these solutions, the close cooperation between surgeon and perioperative nursing team as well as adequate coordination of their actions is required. These skills needs to be gained and trained. \u0000Aim. The following report describes the single center experience of the operating team in launching the robotic navigation in neurosurgical procedures from the vantage point of nursing team. \u0000Material and Methods. This work contains a phenomenological analysis of learning process and of optimalisation in cooperating the work of the involved operating team during early phase of introducing the robotic neurosurgical procedures (both cranial and spinal). Here, the typical problems during implementation of these techniques with separate analysis of single steps of preparing and applying the tool sets are described, where critical points and the potential of failure elimination is highlighted. \u0000Results. The preparing of the robotic surgical tool set is not demanding and differs only slightly from the preparation of standard sets designed for neuronavigation plus targeted cranial biopsy or percutaneous spine instrumentation, respectively. The key point is to synchronize the actions of the operating surgeon (-s), perioperative nurses and radiologic technicians. \u0000Conclusions. Implementation of robotic techniques is a challenge for the whole neurosurgical team, including the scrub/circulating nurses. What is more important in the initial phase than (usually intuitive) operation of the devices, is the coordination of single team members’ actions and developing the communication skills regarding the planned course of the surgery and potential modification of its course, needed before the surgery starts. Myasthenia gravis is an immune-mediated disease associated with a disorder of the neuromuscular junction. MG belongs to the group of chronic diseases with variable clinical courses. Patients struggling with this disease must remain under the constant care of a neurologist and take medications regularly. Talking about myasthenia gravis, we can divide it into two forms: ocular and generalized. In patients with the generalized form, a lower level of quality of life can be observed. As patients age, their quality of life increases. This may be due to the fact that younger people, leading a more active life, find it more difficult to accept disabilities resulting from the disease. Aim. The aim of the study is to present the specificity of the functioning of patients with myasthenia gravis. Material and Methods. To write the above work, an analysis of the literature and a diagnostic survey were used, an original questionnaire consisting of three parts and six ready-made scales was used. Results. The study showed that the quality of life of patients with myasthenia gravis is reduced. A lower level of quality of life can be observed among women, younger people and those suffering from the general form of this disease. Myasthenia gravis negatively affects the daily functioning of patients. The negative impact of physical, mental and general fatigue as well as the degree of everyday life difficulties due to fatigue on the quality of life of patients with MG was also demonstrated. In the case of myasthenia gravis, however, we must distinguish between fatigue and muscle fatigue. Conclusions. Myasthenia gravis and the problems faced by people with this disease is a topic rarely discussed in scientific works. The quality of life of this group of patients is significantly reduced, which contributes to the occurrence of anxiety and depression among this group of patients. The biggest problem among MG patients is fatigue, which has a significant impact on their quality of life. More attention should be paid to the problem of quality of life and more research related to this topic should be carried out in the future. Previous studies have shown that the level of care burden depends primarily on the mental state and functional ability of patients, i.e. on factors on the patient’s part. Other reports point to factors also related to the caregiver. Aim. The aim of the study was to analyse the impact of selected factors on the burden on informal caregivers in caring for geriatric patients with nervous system diseases. Material and Methods. The research was conducted at the Geriatrics Clinic of the University Hospital no. 1 of Dr A. Jurasz in Bydgoszcz on a group of 117 informal caregivers and 117 patients with nervous system diseases under their care at home. The prospective studies used survey techniques as well as observation and measurement. The Negative Impact of Care Scale (NIC) included in the COPE-index was used to assess the caregiver’s burden with care. The Barthel scale and Lawton’s IADL scale were used to assess patients’ deficits in basic activities of daily living. To assess the intensity of depression symptoms in older people, the Geriatric Depression Scale — GDS was used. Results. The socio-demographic factors determining caregiver burden (NIC) include: caregiver’s age (p=0.00), place of care (p=0.03), caregiver’s self-assessment of health (p=0.00) and experience in providing care (p=0.03). However, there was no significant (p>0.05) impact of variables such as gender, place of residence, marital status, caregiver’s education and degree of relationship with the patient on the burden of care. The analysis also showed that caregivers feel a negative overload in connection with caring for a patient with a functional impairment (BI and IADL p=0.01) and with vascular disease and dementia (p=0.01). Conclusions. More than half of the surveyed caregivers show a high degree of burden in caring for geriatric patients with nervous system diseases. Caregiver burden is determined by the following factors: the age of the caregiver, the place of care, the caregiver’s self-assessment of health and the experience of providing care. Stress is an inevitable part of everyone’s life. It is the body’s response to unfamiliar and unpredictable situations that people often have to face. Hospitalisation and surgery are among the factors that contribute to stress and anxiety. Aim. The aim of this study was to assess the severity of stress, anxiety and depression in neurosurgical patients before surgery and the factors affecting them. Material and Methods. The study included 100 patients residing in the Department of Neurosurgery of the 10th Military Research Hospital with Polyclinic IP HCC in Bydgoszcz, who were qualified for surgery. The study was conducted using the author’s questionnaire, the PSS-10 scale, the anxiety and depression subscales of the HADS-M questionnaire. Results. In the study group, the mean stress score was 6.07±1.31 points, anxiety 9.73±2.84 points and depression 4.76±3.15 points. An increase in stress levels resulted in an increase in anxiety and depression levels (p<0.001). Talking to hospital ward staff about the planned surgery reduced depression levels (p=0.045), but had no effect on levels of perceived stress and anxiety. Anxiety and depressive disorders increased with the age of the subjects. Conclusions. The nursing profession requires employees to be highly resistant to stress. Assisting patients in their experience of pain, illness, helplessness is a stressful experience can be a traumatic experience especially in the face of an immediate threat to a patient’s life. Nursing staff working in treatment wards is exposed to particularly intense stress, in contact with a patient experiencing fear of a surgery and a patient after a surgery experiencing postoperative pain and requiring specialist care. Aim. The exploratory goal of the study was to diagnose the level of mental health in case of the nurses working in two types of wards: surgical and non-invasive treatment ones. The nurses working in hospital non-invasive treatment wards were expected to have better mental health than the ones working in treatment units. Material and Methods. An anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted among N=244 nurses of randomly selected hospital wards in a district town in the north of Poland. In the study there were used: General Health Questionnaire GHQ-28 by D. Goldberg and Life Satisfaction Scale by E. Diener and co-workers. Results. Contrary to the expectations, nurses from non-invasive treatment wards experienced stronger anxiety, insomnia, social dysfunction and lower life satisfaction than their colleagues from surgical units. Conclusions. Counter to the intuitively imposing image of the work of a nurse in various types of hospital wards, professional burden and mental condition, the need for mental health prevention of nursing staff applies primarily to staff employed in non-invasive treatment wards. With the aging of the population, it is becoming increasingly important to equip these nurses with the skills to cope with prolonged exposure to occupational stressors. Many people believe that there is something predetermined in their life. Fatalism affects people’s adaptation to their diseases in epilepsy as well as in every disease. Aim. The study was conducted methodologically to determine the fatalism towards epilepsy disease. Material and Methods. “Information Form” and “Epilepsy Fatalism Scale” were used as data collection tools. With the literature review, a pool was created from the items of the previously developed fatalism scales. After removing the items with low factor load as a result of confirmatory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis was performed again. The data of the research were collected through social media. Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin (KMO) and Bartlett test, Principal Component Analysis, and Varimax Rotation were used for exploratory factor analysis in the evaluation of the data. For construct validity, confirmatory factor analysis was performed within the scope of explanatory and structural equation modeling χ², χ²/SD, RMSEA, CFI, IFI compatibility tests were used for Confirmatory Factor analysis. Results. The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient for the entire scale was found to be 0.768. It was determined with the results of the fit index analysis χ²/SD: 3.736, GFI, 0.922, AGFI 0.909, CFI 0.904, TLI 0.914, RMSEA: 0.062, RMR: 0.041 that the validity of the scale was ensured. A stroke is a sudden, unexpected condition that can be life threatening and requires hospitalization. The time from the onset of stroke symptoms to the provision of medical attention is very important. The later help is provided, the chances of recovery decrease, and the possibility of permanent disability increases. \u0000Aim. The aim of the study was to assess the level of knowledge of students of medical and non-medical faculties on the principles of pre-medical first aid in stroke and to determine the state of general knowledge about stroke. \u0000Material and Methods. The study was conducted among students of the Academy of Applied Sciences of Stanisław Staszic in Piła in the academic year 2020/2021. 186 students participated in the study, including 77 students of non-medical faculties and 109 students of medical faculties. The study used the diagnostic survey method using the author’s questionnaire. Each data is described in terms of quantity and percentage. The distribution of features in groups of students of non-medical and medical faculties was checked with the chi-square test. The level of significance was p < 0.05. \u0000Results. The level of students’ knowledge depended on the field of study. Students of non-medical faculties definitely more often answered “I don’t know” to the questions asked, they had less knowledge about recognizing the symptoms or risk factors of stroke. The average level of knowledge of non-medical students was 2.88 ± 0.79 and was significantly lower (t = –5.73, p < 0.0001) than the average level of knowledge of medical students of 3.60 ± 0.97. \u0000Conclusions. Weaker knowledge of the issues related to stroke among students of non-medical faculties indicates the need for urgent education of students in the field of stroke, so that they can recognize a stroke and take appropriate action quickly, thanks to which the patient will have a chance to quickly reach the right hospital, and thus receive the best possible treatment according to current recommendations. According to the conducted research, the workload results from the general involvement in the undertaken activities. It can therefore be seen that the greater the involvement, the greater the burden, and thus the greater impact on the health of both the physical and mental nurse/caregiver. It should be noted that many factors affect the degree of the load.\u0000Aim. The main aim of the conducted research was to assess the degree of workload of nursing teams while caring for elderly people diagnosed with a neurological disease.\u0000Material and Methods. The study was conducted in the Provincial Specialist Hospital in Włocławek on a group of 120 randomly selected people (nurses) caring for an elderly person with a neurological disease. The study used the method of diagnostic survey, using the survey technique. In order to obtain an answer to the main objective of the research, a questionnaire was constructed and standardized research tools were used — ADL, IADL and the Negative Care Impact Scale included in the COPE-index questionnaire.\u0000Results. The study showed that with the increase in seniority in the role of a nurse/carer in the care of the elderly, there is an increase in physical strain, weakening of relations with friends, a significant impact on family relationships and a decrease in satisfaction with the role. The data obtained indicate that a small percentage of nursing teams use equipment such as a lift or rollers for transfer. The study clearly shows that the degree of independence of an elderly person with a neurological disease has a significant impact on both the mental and physical health of the nursing teams taking care of them.\u0000Conclusions. There is a relationship between seniority and job satisfaction. People with the longest work experience do not feel satisfied. Nursing teams do not fully use material and human resources while performing their role of caring for elderly people, which may result from various reasons (lack of knowledge, lack of skills, limited access to equipment, lack of willingness for cooperation and helping others). This has an impact on the level of physical and mental burden of nurses. The degree of independence of the ward has a significant impact on the level of physical and mental burden of the nurse. With the increase in dependence of the ward, the degree of burden on nursing teams increases.
