Ryuzan (elevation 1, 362m) represents the oldest edifice in the Zao volcanic group of NE Japan. It consists of thick piles of lavas and pyroclastic rocks, and has been subjected to volcanic eruption or land slide activity which produced mud-flow (debris flow) deposits. Both K-Ar ages and paleomagnetic data of these lavas indicate that the volcano formed at about 1 million years ago. The analyzed rocks from Mt. Ryuzan fall within the SiO2 range of 47.4-60.3% (water free basis) and basalt is the predominant rock type. Alkali contents, especially K2O, are very low in those basalts, compared with rocks forming the main (Central) Zao volcano. Chemically, rocks of Mt. Ryuzan belong to the tholeiitic series (TH) of Miyashiro (1974). It is noteworthy that low-K tholeiitic basalts occur at the early stage of the formation of Zao volcano.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"44 1","pages":"345-351"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89808386","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ultramafic bodies were mainly harzburgites or Iherzolites which originally equilibrated at around amphibolite facies conditions and subsequently re-equilibrated near 400°C. Ultramafic rocks in the Chichibu belt, from the eastern Kii Peninsula to the Kanto Mountains, have the same textural and chemical characteristics as those in the Kurosegawa tectonic zone; accordingly, they are considered to be an eastern extension of the zone. Petrology of the ultramafic rocks and the distribution of lithologic types within the Kurosegawa tectonic zone indicate that the ultramafic rocks and the associated granitic and high-grade metamorphic rocks were originally situated towards the western side of the zone, and were tectonically sliced and crushed by left-lateral movement during the Early Cretaceous. The more mobile serpentinized ultramafic rocks were transported laterally far to the east along the strike slip systems, but the other rigid materials remained within the western area.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"672 1","pages":"319-335"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85381562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They can be collectively named, therefore, “the Circum-Izu Massif serpentinites”. Serpentinites in the Kobotoke Group of the Sasago area are derived from harzburgite and lherzolite with or without plagioclase. Olivine, orthopyroxene and plagioclase were almost completely altered. Chemical compositions of chromian diopside, chromian spinel and Ca-rich amphibole are equivalent to those in peridotites from the Mineoka belt, and are slightly but distinctly different from those in peridotites from the Setogawa belt and the Hayama belt. Ca/(Ca+Mg+Fe*) (Fe*, total iron) atomic ratio of chromian diopside in the Kobotoke-Mineoka peridotites is lower by 0.01 on average than that in the Setogawa-Hayama peridotites. Ca-amphiboles of the former peridotites are more enriched in Al and Na than those of the latter peridotites. Peridotites of the Setogawa and the Hayama belts are also characterized by a higher abundance of Ca-rich amphiboles than the Kobotoke-Mineoka ones. These petrographical differences are due to the lower equilibrium temperature and higher H2O availability of the upper mantle from which peridotites in the Setogawa and the Hayama belts were derived.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"26 1","pages":"336-344"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-09-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75377000","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The specimens were collected from a column of the Shirasawa formation at the vicinity of the zeolite deposit. The bulk chemical composition of them is fairly homogeneous, and ranges in Si/Al ratio from 4.28 to 5.63, averaging 4.81. Equivalent content of Ca2+ surpasses those of Na+, K+ and Mg2+. The content of calcium has good correlation with that of mordenite. Also the significant correlations were recognized among mordenite content, carbon dioxide amount adsorbed, cation exchange capacity (CEC) and total value of cations leached by NH+4. The upper part of the column which is highly mordenitized bed is about 80 meters in thickness. While in the lower part, the mordenite content decreases as the depth increases. Average mineral composition of the 8 specimens collected from the highly mordenitized bed is as follows: mordenite=65.8wt.%, quartz=5.8wt.%, α-cristobalite=1.6wt.%, feldspar=3.3wt.% and amorphous materials=23.5wt.%. Their average CEC is 140.3meq./lOOg.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"65 5 1","pages":"291-298"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-08-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74729889","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, relationships among density, degree of milkiness, and correlation between trace-element contents were discussed as well as the origen of the trace elements. For lasca Limoeiro, Na, K, and Ca contents vary within the range of n.d.-19.5, n.d.-8.7, and n.d.-10.8ppm, respectively. Contents of these three elements increase and the density of lasca decreases as degree of milkiness increases. Correlation coefficients of K and Ca with Na are 0.934 and 0.861, respectively. These observations suggest that almost all of them are derived from fluid inclusions in lasca. Li and Al contents for lasca Limoeiro vary within the range of 0.8-3.0 and 6.9-25.9ppm, respectively, and for lasca Valadares, 6.4-7.6 and 42.0-50.0ppm, respectively. The correlation coefficient is 0.759 for lasca Limoeiro, 0.771 for lasca Valadares, and 0.977 for the combination of the two localities, suggesting a “coupled entrance” of Li and Al elements in the quartz structure. Correlation coefficient between Na and Al is negative, and Na was not detected in transparent lasca free from fluid inclusion. It is suggested that a “coupled entrance” of Na-Al does not occur in these Brazilian lascas.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"1 1","pages":"299-305"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-08-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76374042","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on unusual differentiation trends of Na2O and Th/U, the Th/U-K2O/Na2O diagram is proposed as a clue to study of the mixing process between two differently originated magmas. Present results show that all the differentiation trends direct towards a fixed point on that diagram, the Th/U and K2O/Na2O ratios of which are 6.5 and 1.7 respectively. This unfamiliar converging differentiation trend is concluded to indicate the mixing of two magmas, one of which has the composition of the fixed point. The point is explained to represent the minimum melt by partial melting in the Qtz-Or-Ab-An-H2O system, based on comparison of its K2O/Na2O ratio with that of the Sierra Nevada batholith and melting experiments. The similarity of Th/U ratio between the fixed point and shales or sandstones of the Shimanto belt suggests that they have been source materials to be partly melted. The differentiation trends of the other elements are also explained by the mixingmodel.","PeriodicalId":22709,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of the Japanese Association of Mineralogists,Petrologists and Economic Geologists","volume":"38 1","pages":"257-268"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1987-07-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74811328","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
