Here, we determined the antimicrobial activity of plant-derived polyphenols against Malassezia pachydermatis and S. intermedius , the causative agents of malasseziosis and SIG infection, respectively. The polyphenols tested were castalagin, (+)catechin, ( − )-epigallocatechin, ( − )-epicatechin gallate, ( − )-epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate, myricitrin, prodelphinidin, procyanidin, resveratrol, rutin, theaflavin, and thearubigin. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of these polyphenols against two yeast species, M. pachydermatis and Candida albicans , and two bacterial species, S. intermedius and Achromobacter xylosoxidans , were determined using an agar plate assay. Dermatological examination indicated telogen effluvium. Diagnostic imaging showed the enlargement of prostate gland, the intra-abdominal mass, and the subcutaneous cryptorchidism. An increased serum estradiol (E2) concentration and a decreased serum testosterone/E2 ratio indicated a secreting-testicular tumor. After orchiectomy and skin biopsy, a mixed Sertoli cell tumor and seminoma, with a cutaneous atrophy and telogen effluvium were diagnosed by histopathological examinations. Subsequently, decrease of serum E2 concentration and hair regrowth were observed. Treatment which included a thyroidectomy and subsequent thyroid supplementation led to the resolution of all associated clinical signs. There has been no recurrence of alopecia, pyoderma, or gastrointestinal abnormalities after one year of thyroid supplementation and post thyroidectomy.
