One of the areas of its application is business performance, which is the subject of our research. Business performance depends on a number of factors. There are also several methods in theory how to measure business performance. The aim of this paper was to point out the possibility of the application of matrix model as one of the modern methods of performance measurement. This method provides opportunities for various calculations and economic analysis. In this paper we applied one of them – the model of input and output transformations applying simplex method of linear programming. We used the model of input and output transformations for the calculation of business efficiency. Our goal was to use this model for the calculation of business performance and to highlight the fact that efficiency and performance are related, or even they have the same meaning. We applied Spearman`s rank correlation coefficient to confirm the match of rankings of business performance and efficiency. We found out that there is relationship between performance and efficiency. With the use of mentioned approach we can calculate performance of individual businesses or industry and we can also formulate solutions for performance enhancement.","PeriodicalId":225665,"journal":{"name":"Research in Applied Economics","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129282652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study uses a 10-year (2003-2012) pooled cross-sectional data from the USDA ARMS survey data (Phase III). A probit approach is used to regress delinquency against various borrower-specific, loan-specific, lender-specific, macroeconomic and climatic variables for the first part. The results show that farmers with larger farms, farmers with insurance, farmers with higher net income, farmers with smaller debt to asset ratio, farmers with single loans and those that take majority of their loans from sources apart from commercial banks are those that are less likely to be delinquent. Temperature and precipitation also affect outcomes, but by minute magnitudes.","PeriodicalId":225665,"journal":{"name":"Research in Applied Economics","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131973970","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The taxonomy method is used to carry out a multidimensional analysis of the state of trade in all regions, with the goal of determining their attractiveness with respect to investment and international cooperation. Key indicators were chosen to be: export and import of services, export and import of goods, balance of the trade of services, balance of the trade of goods, and retail trade. Using the standardized matrix of statistical values, provided by Ukraine’s national statistics agency, the level of development of each region was determined, as well as its rating. A comparison of this year’s ratings with those of the previous two years is carried out. Based on the calculated inter-regional distance matrix, calculated in the context of the seven chosen parameters, nonlinear structures of regional connections are constructed. Using them, clusters of regions can be constructed that take into account trade dynamics and other economic activity. The constructed linear and nonlinear connection structure of Ukraine’s regions can become the basis of fruitful cooperation in the area of trade. They can also be used when carrying out mutual investment projects and when regulating the exchange of goods between Ukraine’s regions. The determination of the regions’ ratings and the nonlinear structures of their trade relations can provide valuable information to investors both foreign and domestic.","PeriodicalId":225665,"journal":{"name":"Research in Applied Economics","volume":"231 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131537406","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Price stability, full employment and economic growth constitute the basic conditions of economic stability. If, in an economy inflation and unemployment rates reach to high levels and economic growth rates reach to low levels, economic instability will arise. In order to overcome these problems, a series of models are developed and they have taken their place in the history of economic thought. While existence of an inverse relationship was accepted between inflation and unemployment, in the 1970s and especially as the Petroleum Crisis was lived through, the concept of “stagflation” emerged. Therefore, the opinion that the thought to make a choice between inflation and unemployment should be abandoned has become widely accepted. The aim of this study is to investigate how inflation and unemployment affects economic growth in Turkey between for the period of 2008:1 and 2017:3. In this context secondary data has been taken from Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The study differs from the previous ones because it provides research related to issues that were not investigated in previous studies related to Turkey with regards to the Industrial Production Index (IPI), Product Price Index (PPI) and the relationship of unemployment data for the long term and being related with reasoning. According to the Johansen cointegration test, there is a long term relationship between series. An increase of 1 percent in UNMP reduces IPI by 1.7 percent. Consequently, the paper recommended that in order to ensure economic growth in Turkey, especially policies that would reduce unemployment should be preferred.","PeriodicalId":225665,"journal":{"name":"Research in Applied Economics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129744101","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Comparisons of macroeconomic uncertainty are also made between both countries using a selected number of indicators for macroeconomic volatility. We find that while both countries were affected by similar external sources of macroeconomic uncertainty, these countries were also subject to domestic sources of macroeconomic uncertainty which were confined to the particular country. The analyses also reveal that Indonesia experienced more fluctuations compared to Malaysia when macroeconomic uncertainty is measured by volatility as a macroeconomic outcome and domestic sources of macroeconomic volatility. Contrarily, Malaysia displayed greater fluctuations than Indonesia when macroeconomic uncertainty is measured by external sources of macroeconomic volatility. Policy implications are drawn from the findings.","PeriodicalId":225665,"journal":{"name":"Research in Applied Economics","volume":"280 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121995850","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of this is investments in research, innovation and the innovative capacity of the European regions. Another is the degree of competitiveness of production and European regional systems. This research enters the debate on development and regional competitiveness related to innovation and research, by presenting recent data on innovation and competitiveness in the different European regions. Firstly we present the degree of innovation of European regions referring one of the main document “The Regional Innovation Scoreboard 2016”. This document provides a comparative assessment of the performance in terms of innovation in 190 regions of the EU, making use of a limited number of indicators of research and innovation. It also shows what the differences in the level of innovation performance among EU Member States are still considerable and are reduced only slowly. Secondary we present recent data on the degree of competitiveness of the regions by specifying the selected indicators of competitiveness within the EU with a base map existing (The Europe 2020 Competitiveness Report 2014). The aim of this paper is to understand the correlation between the degree of innovation and the degree of competitiveness comparing first the above mentioned dataset and mapping the most innovative and competitive regions. In the light of this comparison the differences and similarities will be highlighted, as well as the correlation between the index of innovation and to regional competitiveness. At the end are presented some policy indications on possible courses of action for innovation and competitiveness of European regions.","PeriodicalId":225665,"journal":{"name":"Research in Applied Economics","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131729860","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
