This chapter highlights the theoretical explanation of molecular modelling methods and describes the designing of novel tyrosine COX-2 inhibitors using molecular modelling as an example. As a first step, fragment-based drug design is used to design the novel tyrosine analogues and ligand-based drug design such as QSAR, and pharmacophore was used to identify the descriptors, ensemble of steric and electronic features, which is responsible for the selective COX-2 inhibition. The next step, structure-based drug design, was used to analyses intra- and intermolecular interactions in the drug receptor system to improve the binding affinity and pharmacokinetic properties. Finally, the pharmacokinetic and toxicity properties were predicted quantitatively using rationalization of observed structure-activity relationships and the results are reported.","PeriodicalId":225442,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Medical Technologies and Clinical Practice","volume":"55 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121732962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Landmark recognition is an important field in computer vision. In this field, we train the machine learning models to identify and recognize the closed distinctly distinguishable objects in a digital image. In general, if we consider a digital image to be a set of coordinates of different pixels, a landmark is said to be enclosed in that closed polygon formed by the pixels that may be considered as a distinct and distinguishable thing in one or the other sense. Landmark recognition is an important subject area of image classification since it is considered as one of the first steps towards reaching complete computer vision. The extremely broad definition of a landmark makes it eligible to be considered as one of the leading problems in image classification tasks. Since the task is considered to be a very broad one, the solutions to the task hold no easy procedures. This chapter explores landmark recognition using ensemble-based machine learning models.","PeriodicalId":225442,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Medical Technologies and Clinical Practice","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128928163","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Impaired glucose tolerance contributes to more than half of all causes of diabetes. Further, depression has adverse economic and health outcomes. The condition also contributes to poor outcomes in screening efforts among type II diabetes patients. E-health intervention is one of the means for reducing depression. There is, therefore, a need to investigate whether the strategy effectively reduces depression among patients with type II diabetes. The research examined the e-health interventions, which include personal health records (PHRs), diabetes mobile apps, patient portals, information repositories, telehealth, and electronic health records (EHRs). The research findings indicated that e-health would significantly help in reducing depression among people with type II diabetes.","PeriodicalId":225442,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Medical Technologies and Clinical Practice","volume":"32 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124330316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is low cost, low power, and real-time devices that can easily detect epilepsy. Along with EEG device, one can upgrade with GSM module to alert the doctors and parents of patients about its occurrence to prevent a sudden fall, which may cause injury and death. The accuracy of this EEG device depends on the quality of feature extraction technique and classification algorithm. In this chapter, support vector machine (SVM) is used as a classifier. Wavelet transform gives feature extraction, which helps to train data and to detect normal or seizure patients. Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) decomposes the signals into three decomposition levels. In this detection, mean, median, and non-linear parameter entropy were calculated for every sub-band as key parameters. The extracted features are then applied to SVM classifier for the classification. Better accuracy of classification is obtained using wavelet and SVM classifier.","PeriodicalId":225442,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Medical Technologies and Clinical Practice","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128438923","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presence of speckle affects the quality of OCT images. Despeckling is necessary to improve its visual quality, and it is an integral part of software packages used for the computerized analysis of OCT. Even though a few methods for despeckling OCT are available in the literature, a cross-comparison of their performance is not known to be available. In this chapter, the techniques available in the literature for despeckling the OCT images have been identified. The results of the despeckling algorithms are compared both qualitatively and quantitatively by concerning the noise suppression capability and feature preservation. Among the available techniques, iterative adaptive unbiased (IAUB) filter is found to be superior as far as its performance regarding despeckling on retinal OCT images.","PeriodicalId":225442,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Medical Technologies and Clinical Practice","volume":"100 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128590253","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This increases the risk of developing many forms of tendonitis. The objective in this project is to use the latest virtual reality (VR) technology to build a preventive rehabilitation game for raising public awareness of upper limb tendonitis. A survey of 141 respondents was first undertaken to find how much the general public knows about upper limb tendonitis. A virtual game is then created using the Unity3D game engine and 3Ds Max for 3D modeling. It is evaluated after being tested by five participants. The majority of respondents to the questionnaire did not know the cause or implications of tendon issues. Almost half of them spent 8.8 hours per day on computers and smartphones, with only 4 minutes per day spent exercising their hands and fingers. The participants gave positive comments towards the designed rehabilitation game and believe it can help to avoid fatigue caused by prolonged smartphone and computer use.","PeriodicalId":225442,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Medical Technologies and Clinical Practice","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127322930","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
