This paper studies the extension of SSD with recursive systematic convolutional (RSC) coded BICM and constellation rotation in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. Iterative demodulation and decoding (ID) is employed at the receiver. It is shown that for a signal constellation and labeling using SSD on a frequency-selective fading channel, a well considered choice of the rotation angle leads to a significant gain over the conventional BICM-ID OFDM system. Furthermore, the choice of the rotation angle for the system is found to be dependent upon the symbol labeling and the number of iterations performed between the demodulator and the decoder.","PeriodicalId":224906,"journal":{"name":"2007 14th IEEE Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux","volume":"221 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133307591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The filter is used to design low power medium data rate UWB impulse receiver. The high gain and poor selectivity are the attractive properties of super regenerative oscillator for UWB system. Fully integrated filter with LC resonant tank is designed and simulated in 0.1 Sum CMOS technology. The data exchange rate of 1 Mb/s is achieved for detecting -90 dBm signals of 1 GHz bandwidth with power consumption of 500 uW at 1.5 V.","PeriodicalId":224906,"journal":{"name":"2007 14th IEEE Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115358846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The intention is to exploit the a-priori knowledge of the SFN scenario. Conventional pilot schemes for SFN design the pilot scheme to deal with the aggregate channel. In this paper, we show that by being aware of how this long channel is generated, we can design a more efficient pilot scheme. The core idea consists in assigning orthogonal pilot sequences to the transmitters belonging to the same SFN. This allows the receivers for a separate estimate of each of the propagation channels. We have proposed a new pilot scheme for the DVB-T standard in which we assign orthogonal pilot sequences to the different transmitters in the SFN.","PeriodicalId":224906,"journal":{"name":"2007 14th IEEE Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129039171","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, proxy servers will be needed to extend the range of IP-based discovery protocols to non-IP domains. We developed an architecture of a proxy that enables Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) devices and services to be discovered and accessed on the Bluetooth network and vice versa. We optimized and implemented the architecture on a mobile computing platform. This proxy implementation is then used for interworking the UPnP Content Directory service with the Bluetooth File Transfer profile. Our performance study showed that our proxy implementation reduces invocation time and data throughput to about 50% of the bare Bluetooth and UPnP performance, but it is still acceptable for an end user.","PeriodicalId":224906,"journal":{"name":"2007 14th IEEE Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125572726","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Radio frequency (RF) imperfections, such as in-phase/quadrature-phase (IQ) imbalance and carrier frequency offset (CFO) are important issues in today's wireless broadband systems. Due to component imperfections in practical analog electronics such imbalances are unavoidable, resulting in an overall performance degradation of the system. In this paper the joint effect of frequency selective IQ imbalance at both transmitter and receiver end along with CFO is studied for OFDM based transmission. We also consider the general case when the cyclic prefix is not sufficiently long to accommodate the channel impulse response combined with the transmitter and receiver filter, which results in inter-block-interference (IBI) between the OFDM symbols.","PeriodicalId":224906,"journal":{"name":"2007 14th IEEE Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116435383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is envisaged that in certain areas end-users will have a choice between various radio accesses (RAs) such as e.g. classical cellular networks (GSM, UMTS, WiMAX, etc), WLAN hot-spots, or over multiple hops via wireless ad-hoc networks. In this scenario it is crucial to select the most appropriate RA for a user at a given location requesting a particular service. This crucial task is performed by the radio access selection (RAS) algorithm. In this paper we evaluate four different RAS algorithms by simulations of a multi-radio access (MRA) system that consists of a cellular UMTS network and a centrally placed WLAN hot-spot. The evaluation compares the performance of the MRA system with respect to the blocking probability, resource utilization, average user throughput and the 90th user throughput percentile. The simulation results show that combining the resource pools and adding a radio resource consumption or throughput based criteria in the access selection results in almost two times higher supportable traffic load for a blocking probability target of 2%. The average data throughput is increased between 25% and 100%, depending on the traffic load, while the 90% data throughput is increased up to six times.","PeriodicalId":224906,"journal":{"name":"2007 14th IEEE Symposium on Communications and Vehicular Technology in the Benelux","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128175211","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
