With the capabilities of pervasive surveillance, sensor networks can be very useful in a lot of commercial and military applications for collecting and processing the environmental data. One of the very interesting research issues is the energy saving in object tracking sensor networks (OTSNs). However, most of the past studies focused only on the aspect of movement behavior analysis or location tracking and did not consider the temporal characteristics, which are very critical in OTSNs. In this paper, we propose a novel data mining method named TMP-Mine with a special data structure named TMP-Tree for discovering temporal moving patterns efficiently. To our best knowledge, this is the first study that explores the issue of discovering temporal moving patterns that contain both movement and time interval simultaneously. Through empirical evaluation on various simulation conditions, TMP-Mine is shown to deliver excellent performance in terms of accuracy, execution efficiency, and scalability.","PeriodicalId":223683,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Ubiquitous Data Management","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115197190","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we address the impact of context-awareness on ubiquitous data management. To do this, we overview different characteristics of context in order to develop a clear understanding of context, as well as its implications and requirements for context-aware data management. References to recent research activities and applicable techniques are also provided.","PeriodicalId":223683,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Ubiquitous Data Management","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131769349","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the simplest case this is an information request answered by a search engine based on the analysis of the content of individual information objects within an information collection that may be a digital library, but also the World Wide Web. However, neither the information search activity nor the information objects within the collection are isolated entities. They are both equipped with a multifaceted context. This paper discusses complementing ways to make such context explicit and to use it to improve the information mediation process.","PeriodicalId":223683,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Ubiquitous Data Management","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121419188","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The object may be a person, place or thing of interest; it may be either physical or virtual; and it supports interactions between and among objects. The goal is to provide a framework in which to represent an object's context, capabilities, preferences and intent as it interacts with other objects in both the physical and virtual worlds it inhabits.","PeriodicalId":223683,"journal":{"name":"International Workshop on Ubiquitous Data Management","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2005-04-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124587915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
