Currently, in the field of textiles, research on the ability of tree-like structures to enhance the water transport property of fabrics is mostly focused on the thickness direction of the fabric. However, there is little research on the liquid water transfer rate in the horizontal direction. In this article, the water transport performance of liquid water in tree-like fractal nonwoven fabrics with different shapes (tree-like and rectangular) was investigated, and the liquid water transport rate was measured using the horizontal wicking method. It was found that when the sum of the cube of the branch width was equal to the cube of the main stem width, the water transport efficiency of liquid water in the fabric is optimal. At the same time, a summary of the experimental data was made by comparing the water transport property of fabrics with corresponding equal areas but different widths or heights. It was found that for nonwoven fabrics with the same area size, tree-like structures can transport liquid water to a farther distance in the same amount of time. Furthermore, the liquid water transport ability of tree-like nonwoven fabrics in the horizontal direction was simulated using finite element analysis in COMSOL Multiphysics, and the results were in good agreement with the experimental values.","PeriodicalId":22323,"journal":{"name":"Textile Research Journal","volume":"36 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2024-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141930469","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is essential to consider the influence of nonuniform tension on the transverse vibration characteristics of the moving carbon fiber prepreg tape. This paper investigates the transverse vibration characteristics and plane stress distribution of the moving carbon fiber prepreg tape under a nonuniform coefficient of tension. The governing equation for the transverse vibration of the tape is derived using Kirchhoff’s thin plate theory and Hamilton’s principle, and the Galerkin method is applied to solve for the natural frequencies. The study focuses on the transverse vibration characteristics and stability of the tape, exploring the influence of geometric, material, and process parameters on its natural frequencies and critical velocities. In addition, the negative impact of nonuniform tension on the plane stress distribution of the carbon fiber prepreg tape is quantitatively expressed through coefficient of variation. The research findings underscore the importance of incorporating the nonuniform coefficient of tension into theoretical analysis and simulation modeling, enabling a precise investigation of the vibration characteristics and plane stress distribution exhibited by carbon fiber prepreg tape during the production process.","PeriodicalId":22323,"journal":{"name":"Textile Research Journal","volume":"110 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2024-07-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141785658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A swin transformer block was added to the C2f module in the backbone network, which can transfer information between multiple attention layers in parallel to capture fabric defect information and improve the detection accuracy of small-sized defects. To enhance the model’s performance in detecting defects of various sizes, a bidirectional feature pyramid network (BiFPN) was incorporated into the neck. This allows for the assignment of different weights to defect features in different layers. A convolution block attention module (CBAM) was added to the feature fusion layer, enabling the model to automatically increase the weight of essential features and suppress nonessential features during training to solve the problem of leakage detection of small-sized defects due to occlusion and background confusion. The Wise-IoU (WIoU) loss function replaces the conventional loss function, addressing sample imbalance and directing the model to prioritize average-quality samples. This modification contributes to an overall improvement in the model’s performance. The results of the experiment proved that on the self-constructed fabric defect dataset, the algorithm in this paper achieved an accuracy of 97.7%, recall of 95.1%, and mAP of 96.8%, which are 4.4%, 9.4%, and 5.1% higher than those of the YOLOv8 algorithm, respectively. On the AliCloud Tianchi dataset, the algorithm achieves 52.3%, 49.2%, and 49.8% in terms of accuracy, recall, and mAP, respectively, which is an improvement of 4.4% in terms of accuracy, 2.8% in terms of recall, and 2.7% in terms of mAP compared with the baseline algorithm. The improved YOLOv8 algorithm has a high detection accuracy, low leakage rate, and a detection speed of 107.5 FPS, which aligns with the real-time defect detection speed in the industry.","PeriodicalId":22323,"journal":{"name":"Textile Research Journal","volume":"57 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2024-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141778974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed comprehensively to evaluate how the mechanical properties of medical compression stockings would be changed after undergoing washing under different conditions. We further investigated the effect of washing parameters on medical compression stockings. By subjecting medical compression stockings to washing under varying conditions, and measuring the mechanical properties (including the tensile properties, bending property, friction property, and bagging property) of medical compression stockings from the knee to the thigh, distinct alterations were observed. Notably, it was concluded that the elongation, the tension, and the bending rigidity of medical compression stockings increased. In addition, the residual rate of bagging was reduced after washing. In addition, the washing temperature was the most significant factor affecting the mechanical properties of medical compression stockings. Meanwhile, the mechanical actions of the washing machine, such as drum speed and washing time, also exerted varying degrees of influence on the mechanical properties of different medical compression stockings. Furthermore, this study not only provides essential guidance for consumers regarding effective washing practices for medical compression stockings, but also contributes valuable insights towards optimizing the mechanical properties of medical compression stockings to maintain their key properties.","PeriodicalId":22323,"journal":{"name":"Textile Research Journal","volume":"69 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2024-07-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141778977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To date, the predominant focus of research has been on the washing parameters rather than the intrinsic characteristics of textiles. The findings of this review revealed that natural, man-made, and mixed-composition fabrics tend to release more microfibers compared to pure synthetic fabrics. Divergent results have been observed in studies on the release of microplastics from recycled synthetic fabrics. Woven fabrics release less microplastic compared to knitted fabrics. However, it is evident that yarn construction has more impact on microplastic release than textile composition or structure, and high-twist filament yarns reduce microplastic formation. Mechanical finishes tend to enhance microplastic release, while synthetic and biodegradable reduce it, but their sustainability and durability aspects need further investigation. The impact of different types of dyes on microplastic release remains unclear. All of the textile characteristics specified in this article are of pivotal importance in microplastic research. Overlooking the significance of any of these details can complicate the development of microplastic mitigation strategies.","PeriodicalId":22323,"journal":{"name":"Textile Research Journal","volume":"38 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2024-06-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141511256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Textile recycling is one of the key aspects for reducing the massive waste problem generated by the fashion and textile industries. Despite the need to develop textile waste recycling industries, acceptable practical interim measures still need to be taken. Textile waste can affect people’s lives economically and environmentally. Producing apparel from natural or synthetic origin can produce pollutants and waste at each stage. In this review article, the effects of the fashion and textile industry have been studied from economic and environmental perspectives. The available technologies and methods for waste recovery and recycling at each stage have been studied, and the uses of products after recycling have been systematically investigated. Despite all the progress made in the waste recycling processes of the fashion industry, many deficiencies and challenges still need to be addressed. Among the most critical challenges are the large scale of industries, the problems of collecting and classifying waste materials, and the presence of contaminants including blends and chemicals. There is also need for more awareness among consumers about the importance of fiber-to-fiber recycling processes, because to date the progress in this field is out of proportion to its necessity. Overall, this article is a valuable resource for anyone interested in understanding the current state of recycling and recovery in the textiles, garment, and fashion industries.","PeriodicalId":22323,"journal":{"name":"Textile Research Journal","volume":"326 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2024-05-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141190675","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The subjective style evaluation of down jacket fabrics was divided into comprehensive sensory evaluation and pure sensory evaluation. Pure sensory evaluation included three ways: pure vision, pure touch, and pure hearing. The comprehensive sensory evaluation was to combine the three to evaluate the fabric. The results showed that the pure sensory evaluation results were not much different from the comprehensive sensory evaluation results, and the correlation was strong. In general, the results of the pure tactile test were more consistent with the results of the comprehensive sensory test. The subjective comprehensive sensory evaluation results had a high linear correlation with the calculation results of the objective comprehensive handle evaluation model, and were negatively correlated. The smaller the calculated value of the model, the better the comprehensive handle of the fabric. It also proved the rationality and validity of the objective model, and the feasibility of the CHES-FY textile handle style evaluation instrument to evaluate the handle of down jacket fabrics.","PeriodicalId":22323,"journal":{"name":"Textile Research Journal","volume":"52 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2024-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141167509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the down-sampling performed by the convolutional and pooling layers on the extracted features result in a significant loss of fine-grained fiber features. To address this issue, a multi-head attention framework for fiber recognition has been proposed. First, textile surface images are captured using optical magnifiers and smart devices such as smartphones. Second, fiber features and label embeddings are learned separately by multi-head self-attention. Finally, the label embeddings are used to query the presence of fiber types, and pool type-related features in the multi-head cross-attention module to classify fibers. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method performs exceptionally well on the textile surface image dataset, with a mean average precision accuracy improvement of 6% compared with the convolutional neural network-based fiber recognition method Cu-Net, and a 5% improvement compared with the fiber recognition method FiberCT combining convolutional neural networks and attention mechanisms. It is worth mentioning that the fiber images captured at 200× magnification in the collected dataset are most favorable for models to recognize fiber. The proposed method achieves a mean average precision fiber recognition accuracy of 80.2% on images at 200× magnification.","PeriodicalId":22323,"journal":{"name":"Textile Research Journal","volume":"351 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":2.3,"publicationDate":"2024-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141173195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The incorporation of nanotechnology, particularly through wet processes involving nano finishes, while enhancing textile functionality, further exacerbates these environmental concerns. Consequently, the exploration and promotion of sustainable methodologies are imperative across all wet treatments in textile processing. Among the potential solutions, sonoprocesses stand out as a promising avenue for mitigating resource consumption, and supporting environmentally friendly synthesis and application of nanomaterials to textiles. Sonoprocesses offer the advantage of carrying processes at low temperature and pressure, and the use of aqueous media instead of organic solvents. This comprehensive review delves into the multifaceted applications of sonoprocesses within the textile realm, with a specific emphasis on the synthesis and application of nanomaterials to textiles.
