Ce concept permet de lier le procede de fabrication aux fonctionnalites attendues sur une piece. Applique a la prothese dentaire il permet ainsi d’etablir les correlations existantes entre le procede de mise en forme des protheses dentaires et les fonctionnalites cliniques attendues sur ces dernieres. Le concept de CFAO en ingenierie biomedicale est presente puis illustre a travers ses usages en dentisterie. Ensuite, les chaines numeriques dediees a la fabrication de protheses dentaires sont presentees. Les methodologies CFAO mises en œuvre dans la pratique quotidienne des chirurgiens-dentistes et des prothesistes dentaires sont analysees selon le point de vue de l’ingenierie mecanique.
