We tested several machine-learning algorithms, and found some promising ones to improve the accuracy and computation time on a public dataset. The best performing algorithms that we found are Extra Trees, Random Forests, and Bagging. We then used a majority voting technique to vote on these algorithms. The Bagging classifier and our customized voting technique have good results (about 96.25% and 96.32% respectively) when tested on all the features. We also used a data-mining technique based on Extra Trees ensemble method to find the most important features on Aegean WiFi Intrusion Dataset (AWID) public data-set. After selecting the most 20 important features, Extra Trees and our voting technique were the best performing classifiers in term of accuracy (96.31% and 96.32% respectively).","PeriodicalId":223140,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference (LISAT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127067468","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the increased scope of applications of WSNs it is imperative to assure security of the network itself against attacks, as well as to assure privacy and integrity of the data that is being collected and transmitted through the network. The I-TRM (Integrated Technical Reference Model) of a WSN has been proposed to standardize these network models in a three faced pyramid, where the three faces are Control, Information and Behavior protocol stacks. In this paper, we expand the I-TRM into a four faced pyramid, where the fourth face is the Security Centric face. This paper introduces the proposed expansion at a high level, with system level requirements of the newly expanded I-TRM. Future papers will present more detailed specifications of the new I-TRM.","PeriodicalId":223140,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference (LISAT)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130989717","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And automated fingerprint identification systems have been developed for a variety of applications. However, in law enforcement agency manual categorization and analysis are still an indispensible part of fingerprint operation mainly for the following two reasons: (1) Automated fingerprint classification and identification systems are far from perfection. They can help to expedite the identification process, but cannot completely replace human fingerprint experts in terms of identification accuracy; (2) Fingerprint classification can help speed up the automated searching process as fingerprint databases become overwhelmingly large. In this paper, we review existing classification systems, including Henry, Vucetich, Battley, and NCIC classification systems, and look into the challenges of classifying certain ambiguous fingerprints and interpreting latent prints. By reviewing literature and a representative case of fingerprint misidentification, we analyze the objective and subjective factors contributing to erroneous and inconsistent identification.","PeriodicalId":223140,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference (LISAT)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130590436","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the literature, intrusion detection has been approached by either a hardware or software technique. This paper reviews and compares hardware based techniques that are commonly used in intrusion detection systems with a special emphasis on modern hardware platforms such as FPGA, GPU, many-core processors and ASIC. It also provides a detailed comparison between these hardware solution platforms. Our approach to classify modern hardware-based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) techniques is based on the detection approach. In addition, we provide a comparison between the classified detection approaches based on essential criteria such as definition, update process, detection ability, features of the system, and implementation requirements. Finally, a classification tree of hardware-based NIDS platforms is given.","PeriodicalId":223140,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference (LISAT)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126889283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mobile robots can be programmed to do specific tasks such as collision avoidance and trajectory planning. Various types of sensors and actuators are mounted on these robots for sensing the surrounding environment and making decisions accordingly. In this paper, we develop collision avoidance and line following techniques for mobile robot navigation in static and dynamic environments with the integration of fuzzy logic fusion. For the collision avoidance technique, eight proximity sensors are used to detect static and dynamic obstacles. The proposed fuzzy logic for the line following mechanism consists of one input and two outputs. The input is the difference between right and left ground sensors values whereas the outputs are the left and right speeds to steer the mobile robot. Several membership functions and fuzzy rules are designed. The proposed method has been successfully tested in Webots Pro simulator and in real time experiment.","PeriodicalId":223140,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference (LISAT)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128009533","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The capability to provision and release cloud computing resources with minimal management effort or service provider interaction led to the rapid increase of the use of cloud computing. Therefore, balancing cloud computing resources to provide better performance and services to end users is important. Load balancing in cloud computing means balancing three important stages through which a request is processed. The three stages are data center selection, virtual machine scheduling, and task scheduling at a selected data center. User task scheduling plays a significant role in improving the performance of cloud services. This paper presents a review of various energy-efficient task scheduling methods in a cloud environment. A brief analysis of various scheduling parameters considered in these methods is also presented. The results show that the best power-saving percentage level can be achieved by using both DVFS and DNS.","PeriodicalId":223140,"journal":{"name":"2016 IEEE Long Island Systems, Applications and Technology Conference (LISAT)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-04-29","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121517508","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
