The original IP3-BPS method used a two-stage predictor. The stage-1 predictor took advantage of spatial data correlation and formulated the derivation of a spectral domain predictor as a process of Wiener filtering. The stage-2 predictor took the prediction from the stage-1 predictor as an initial value and conducted a backward pixel search (BPS) scheme on the current band for the final prediction value. We propose an optimal bidirectional pixel search (OBPS) scheme and take it as the stage-2 predictor; the previous stage-2 predictor becomes the stage-3 one in turn. The use of the OBPS scheme improves the efficiency of exploiting the calibration-induced data correlation. Experimental results carried out on the AVIRIS'97 images show the proposed method outperforms previous methods; a 1.5% improvement in bits per pixel was observed compared to the original IP3-BPS method.","PeriodicalId":223115,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 4th International Conference on Software Engineering and Service Science","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114606227","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Text localization is an important step of text extraction to obtain the useful information from images. It is now widely acknowledged that traditional wavelets are not very effective in dealing with multi-dimensional signals containing distributed discontinuities. Shearlets not only possess the main features of wavelets such as multi-scale, multi-direction and time-frequency localization, but also offers a high degree of directionality and anisotropy. Meanwhile, compared with Nonsubsampled Contourlet Transform (NSCT), Shearlets has obvious superiority in flexibility on directional selectivity and lower computing complexity. The proposed method applies the Discrete Shearlet Transform on an image to decompose it into set of directional subbands with texture details captured in different orientations and scales. Then, the binarization with dynamic thresholding is applied to these subbands so as to filter out the background and recognize the edges in multiple directions. Morphological operations are carried out on these binary images and connect the edges together in these images. At each scale, text regions are obtained with the help of the logical AND operator on all binary subband images; and the final text regions are achieved through voting-decision among different scales. This method of text localization is applied on different samples of images and the experiment results have a good performance.","PeriodicalId":223115,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 4th International Conference on Software Engineering and Service Science","volume":"589 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131551432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The paper focuses on traffic status perception data of floating cars and magnetic loops as two types of typical scenes, and proposes a traffic status data fusion model based on Support Vector Regression (SVR) algorithm. The fusion model can be built in self-adaptive optimization mode by a perception dataset with SVR machine learning methods, which can effectively solve small samples, nonlinear and uncertainty problems for multi-source data fusion modeling. We acquire simulation data of different sampling interval and road types on GPS floating cars and magnetic loops in PTV microscopic traffic platform environment and experimentally verify feasibility of the fusion model for multi-source traffic status perception data.","PeriodicalId":223115,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 4th International Conference on Software Engineering and Service Science","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116578733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Of the fields encompassed by STEM, mathematics is the foundation. However, American teens have demonstrated less ability and aptitude for mathematics than the teens in many other countries. Efforts to reduce this ability gap have focused on building a better communal structure within schools, creating more cohesive math curricula, offering smaller classes, encouraging cooperative learning, and helping students overcome math anxiety at school. There is very little published literature on the potential of guided cyber-based self-learning in STEM education, although there are a variety of online STEM learning web sites available for students to access at or after school. In particular, no scientific approach exists to address STEM education challenges in an outside-school setting. The paper briefly unveil an approach to transformatively addressing how mathematics learning, outside of a formal high school setting, could contribute to students' math aptitude. A Web 2.0 system has been deployed, focusing on promoting students' collaborative learning. A big data architecture is applied to addressing voluminous data, which ensures that unstructured Web 2.0 data are always ready for analysis in real time.","PeriodicalId":223115,"journal":{"name":"2013 IEEE 4th International Conference on Software Engineering and Service Science","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-05-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115040115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
