In order to introduce non-functional properties in this scenario, the concept of Service Level Agreement (SLAs) comes into play as a key element. SLAs can be seen as containers of the functional and non-functional properties that both parties (the service consumer and the service provider) agree specifying its rights and obligations during the interaction. However this SLAs represent an additional responsibility for the service provider since it motivates the need of a SLA-Enforcement process in its infrastructure. A proper SLA-enforcement implies optimized resource usage that meet SLAs established with consumer, making it possible to the provider afford a larger number of customers to maximize its benefits. Current approaches to SLA enforcement are domain-specific approaches and/or based on monolithic platforms (from a SOC point of view).In this paper we propose a conceptual architecture (SLAWs) for SLA enforcement. The main goal of the proposed architecture is to be used as a conceptual framework to build a flexible SLA enforcement layer. This layer could be integrated in a seamless way in the pre-existing provider infrastructure when is based upon the service oriented architecture principles.","PeriodicalId":222439,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Congress on Services - Part I","volume":"448 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129445598","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Current semantic Web services ontologies do not support the definition of QOS-aware user preferences, though there are some proposals that extend those ontologies to allow selection based on those preferences. However, their selection algorithms are very coupled with user preferences descriptions, which are defined without semantics or at a different semantic level than service functionality. In this work, we present a service selection framework that transforms user preferences into an optimization problem where the best service is selected. This framework is based on an ontology that conceptualizes these user preferences. Thus, we use a very expressive solution decoupled with the concrete selection technique by using XSL transformations, while describing QoS-aware user preferences at the same semantic level of functional preferences.","PeriodicalId":222439,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Congress on Services - Part I","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121502569","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, users preferences and trade-offs are often qualitative over non-functional attributes of the goal service like security, performance, cost. We propose to capture such requirements as qualitative preferences in addition to structural and functional constraints of the composite goal service. We analyze the theory of CP-nets as a formal model for representing and reasoning with qualitative preferences, and show how it can be used to improve the quality of the generated composition and scalability of the composition algorithm.","PeriodicalId":222439,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Congress on Services - Part I","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114345385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Metadata for these workflows is communicated using one or more discipline-specific schemas and is not static but instead is subject to frequent updates and additions. In contrast to general XML data, the unique uses for scientific metadata allow further optimization.We propose a general metadata catalog for storing scientific metadata that is optimized for community science use and communicates metadata as XML using the schemas of scientific domains. In this paper we show that our hybrid approach outperforms the well-known inlining approach to storing XML when applied to scientific metadata.","PeriodicalId":222439,"journal":{"name":"2008 IEEE Congress on Services - Part I","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132490297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
