As a result, borders between reality and its virtual representations become increasingly blurred. Advanced tools need to support flexibility, specialization and collaborative evolution of the design where the exchange of knowledge between domain experts helps to improve informed decision making. In this paper, we present a collaborative, web-based framework to create 3D scenarios for product design, simulation and training assisted by animated avatars.","PeriodicalId":222111,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125184149","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Case Management (CM) is a new trend that focuses on the support of collaborative human-centric processes. Although CM provides concepts that support human-centric work, processes have to be modelled beforehand in order to be supported by IT systems. Hence, a problem that arises when applying CM is that when organisations begin to formalize CM practice, it is often difficult to express rules controlling the applicability of tasks. Furthermore, fundamental complexity challenges arise when applying CM in practice. In this contribution, we provide a solution to these two issues. We propose that managing human-centric processes should start with model skeletons that serve as a lattice where initial process execution can lean against. Additionally, by tracking different process cases, substantial process knowledge is recorded. Exploring process history might reveal certain recurring patterns that serve as dynamic guidance enhancement for CM systems. In this way, process models might evolve over time, become more and more complete and better reflect operational reality.","PeriodicalId":222111,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115393383","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recent advances in Web technologies allow collaborators to synchronously edit artifacts. From an engineering perspective, adding (near) real-time, multi-user collaboration to single-user applications is a challenging task as it requires the implementation of features such as conflict resolution as well as propagation and visualization of updates in near real-time. In this paper, we present SyncLD, a collaborative system that was built for a community of practice on `learning design' to support Web-based, synchronous collaborative editing of learning design models. The system was built on widget technology and implements propagation of edits using inter-widget communication based on the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) as well as synchronization of edits using Operational Transformation algorithms. A system evaluation shows that the near real-time collaboration features work as intended, and an end-user evaluation demonstrates the usefulness and usability perceived by practitioners. The core near real-time features are bundled in an open-source library that can be reused for building applications for similar use cases, hopefully propelling the future availability and adoption of near real-time collaboration as a standard feature in Web applications.","PeriodicalId":222111,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122729169","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Offloading decisions for mobile cloud collaboration involve many decision factors. One of important decision factors is the network unavailability that has not been well studied. This paper presents an offloading decision model that takes network unavailability into consideration. Network with some unavailability can be modeled as an alternating renewal process. Then, application execution time and energy consumption in both ideal network and network with some unavailability are analyzed. Based on the presented theoretical model, an application partition algorithm and a decision module are presented to produce an offloading decision that is resistant to network unavailability. Simulation results demonstrate good performance of proposed scheme, where the proposed partition algorithm is analyzed in different application and cloud scenarios.","PeriodicalId":222111,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130107861","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most existing HMMs consider the temporal and spatial features of human mobility. In addition, many recent HMMs based on social networks have begun to take into account social factors, which naturally influence the results of the HMMs. Unfortunately, these mobility models do not focus on the impact of several important social factors that can affect a person's actions, such as language, citizenship, and culture. This paper introduces a hybrid human mobility model that integrates social behavior, cultural and language factors into HMMs in order to measure their effect on human mobility, as well as temporal and spatial features. Results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed model.","PeriodicalId":222111,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131365170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In enterprises, unlike in consumer collaboration, sharing this profile information could be extremely valuable and would further enhance the effectiveness of users in a collaboration session. For instance, a sales team member interacting with a potential customer over a period of time can share the profile or contextual information he or she gathered with a new member of the team. Sharing such profile information would jump start the collaboration of the new member and enhance the effectiveness of the collaboration. In this paper, we propose a session-based graph algorithm that recommends profile sharing possibilities to enterprise users based on the history of their collaboration strengths with persons interacting with them. We present results from implementing our algorithm on collaboration relationships that are computed on a deployed real-world enterprise server with approximately one million user-person relationships over a period of nine months.","PeriodicalId":222111,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121671116","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this framework, devices and accessories are connected using a physical connector or short range communication. Multiple devices are connected using a controller for home networks and intra-home networks. Devices and accessories are coated with nano paints. Coating is for full body or portion of body. With advances in nano technology, nano paints that change color on voltage change are available[1]. These paints change color in a color range when subjected to voltage change. Even though other materials can be used, nano paints achieve substantial savings in terms of BOM cost, memory, realtime response and power consumption, which can not be achieved with other materials discussed in the paper. Applications on device are capable of interacting with programmable paints using an API. In this paper, we present end to end components of the framework and how they interact in a network based on ambience inputs, which is substantiated using simulation results.","PeriodicalId":222111,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122052483","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, Wikipedia has also become target to a wide-variety of vandalism attacks. Most existing vandalism detection techniques rely upon simple textual features such as existence of abusive language or spammy words. These techniques are ineffective against sophisticated vandal edits, which often do not contain the tell-tale markers associated with vandalism. In this paper, we argue for a context-aware approach for vandalism detection. This paper proposes a content-context-aware vandalism detection framework. The main idea is to quantify how well the words contained in the edit fit into the topic and the existing content of the Wikipedia article. We present two novel metrics, called WWW co-occurrence probability and top-ranked co-occurrence probability for this purpose. We also develop efficient mechanisms for evaluating these two metrics, and machine learning-based schemes that utilize these metrics. The paper presents a range of experiments to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":222111,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing","volume":"251 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115951694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While traditionally collaborative editing systems would either target synchronous or asynchronous collaboration settings, some recent systems support both types of collaboration, even supporting disconnected work. In this paper we analyze the limitations of existing systems and propose a data management solution that overcomes such limitations. The proposed concurrency control algorithm, based on conflict-free data types, builds on the ideas previously developed for synchronous collaboration, extending them to support asynchronous collaboration. Our solution also includes the necessary information for providing comprehensive awareness information to users. The evaluation of our algorithm shows that comparing our solution with traditional solutions in collaborative editing, the conflict resolution strategy proposed in this paper leads to results closer to the ones expected by users.","PeriodicalId":222111,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133716007","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in such a setting, maintaining awareness at a sufficient level to collaborate optimally is generally more difficult. Therefore research has been done on the prioritization of information for distributed software engineers, based on their current activity and status. Based on this research a platform was developed incorporating a subset of the findings. In this paper we report on a first evaluation of the deployment of this platform in a distributed industrial case setting. The most important findings are that: (i) providing distributed software engineers with their information needs, appears to contribute to an increase in their overall level of awareness and (ii) information about project related communication with the customer and information about the happiness of colleagues adds the most value.","PeriodicalId":222111,"journal":{"name":"9th IEEE International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131089370","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
