The fatigue tests applied were low-cycle, high-cycle and gigacycle types. Low-cycle tests revealed that fatigue lives evaluated by strain amplitudes were roughly the same between the alloys despite differences in tensile strength. Ti-6Al-4 V alloys revealed cyclic softening, while pure titanium revealed cyclic hardening. The cyclic yield stress of the titanium alloys was higher than that of conventional steels. In contrast to the results for pure titanium, the high-cycle fatigue tests on Ti-6Al-4 V alloys revealed internal fractures without conventional fatigue limits. Internal fractures were more frequent at high-stress ratios than at R = –1. Internal fractures from interiors created fish-eye patterns on the fracture surfaces, whereas no fish-eye patterns were observed in internal fractures from sub-surfaces. The internal crack initiation sites revealed clear facets at high-stress ratios without inclusions. The gigacycle fatigue tests on Ti-6Al-4 V alloys revealed the results of ultrasonic fatigue testing at 20 kHz to be equivalent to those for conventional fatigue testing at 120 Hz in cases where internal fractures occurred. Fatigue failures at over 109 cycles were very rare, suggesting the presence of new fatigue limits in the gigacycle region. Degradation of gigacycle fatigue strength was very minor at R = –1, while at high-stress ratios degradation was marked, with the modified Goodman line entering the danger zone, revealing this behaviour to be the main shortcoming of Ti-6Al-4 V alloys. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT IMPACT STATEMENT This paper analyzed massive data disclosed in NIMS fatigue data sheets and disclose low-cycle, high-cycle and gigacycle fatigue properties of titanium alloys.","PeriodicalId":221393,"journal":{"name":"Science and Technology of Advanced Materials: Methods","volume":" 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139255193","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Herein, a comprehensive process of preparing and evaluating MNPs and supported catalysts using high-throughput experimentation (HTE) for TWC is demonstrated. The synthesis of MNPs via a hot-injection method is performed using a homemade parallel reactor. The prepared MNPs are impregnated in parallel on alumina and examined for TWC. An in-house fixed-bed reactor equipped with a quadrupole mass spectrometer was employed for catalyst evaluation, taking advantage of the rapid screening of 20 catalysts and multiple reaction conditions. The overall HTE system can facilitate the synthesis and evaluation of 51 multimetallic catalysts for TWC in less than 2 weeks, and also appear to be a flexible and versatile system for other applications.","PeriodicalId":221393,"journal":{"name":"Science and Technology of Advanced Materials: Methods","volume":"30 5","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139263902","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method is based on the use of composition-gradient films deposited by combinatorial sputtering. This structure allows the fabrication of devices with different compositions on a single substrate, drastically enhancing the throughput in investigating composition dependence. We fabricated CPP-GMR devices on a single GMR film consisting of a CoxFe1-x (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) composition-gradient layer, a Cu spacer layer, and a NiFe layer. The MR ratio obtained from resistance-field measurements exhibited the maximum in the broad Co concentration range of 0.3 ≤ x ≤ 0.65. In addition, the STT efficiency was estimated from the current to induce magnetization reversal of the NiFe layer by spin injection from the CoxFe1-x layer. The STT efficiency was also the highest around the same Co concentration range as for the MR ratio, and this correlation was theoretically explained by the change in the spin polarization of the CoxFe1-x layer. The results revealed the CoxFe1-x composition range suitable for spintronic applications, demonstrating the advantages of the developed method. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT IMPACT STATEMENT We report high-throughput measurement of composition-dependent magnetoresistance and spin transfer torque. Composition-gradient films allow the investigation of devices with different compositions on a single substrate, thereby boosting throughput.","PeriodicalId":221393,"journal":{"name":"Science and Technology of Advanced Materials: Methods","volume":"28 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-10-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139316499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here we report our curation interface (SuperCon2 Interface) and a workflow managing the state transitions of each examined record, to validate the dataset of superconductors from PDF documents collected using Grobid-superconductors in a previous work. This curation workflow allows both automatic and manual operations, the former contains ‘anomaly detection’ that scans new data identifying outliers, and a ‘training data collector’ mechanism that collects training data examples based on manual corrections. Such training data collection policy is effective in improving the machine-learning models with a reduced number of examples. For manual operations, the interface (SuperCon2 interface) is developed to increase efficiency during manual correction by providing a smart interface and an enhanced PDF document viewer. We show that our interface significantly improves the curation quality by boosting precision and recall as compared with the traditional ‘manual correction’. Our semi-automatic approach would provide a solution for achieving a reliable database with text-data mining of scientific documents. Graphical abstract IMPACT STATEMENT This work makes a contribution to the realms of materials informatics and superconductors research, achieved through the evolution and update of SuperCon. We provide results from experiments that support the utilisation of computational analysis and machine learning for collecting experimental data from scientific articles.","PeriodicalId":221393,"journal":{"name":"Science and Technology of Advanced Materials: Methods","volume":"31 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139338842","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, we introduce our open-source package ab Initio Configuration Sampling Toolkit (abICS), which combines high-throughput first-principles calculations, machine learning, and parallel extended ensemble sampling in an active learning setting to enable such simulations. The theoretical background is reviewed in some detail followed by brief notes on usage of the software. In addition, our recent applications of abICS to multi-component ionic systems and their interfaces for energy applications are reviewed as a demonstration of the power of this approach.
