Conservative treatment was devised for acalculous acute cholecystitis. Nonetheless, on the seventh day of onset of symptoms conservative treatment failed and cholecystectomy was done for gangrenous GBV. The patient improved on the ninth post-operation day and was discharged. Conclusion: Although the typical patients for GBV are elderly females and thin kyphotic, it can occur at any age. Therefore, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of all patients presented with clinical features of acute cholecystitis. Moreover, early urgent surgical interventions will decrease mortality and morbidity.","PeriodicalId":221134,"journal":{"name":"Enormous Journal of Medical Sciences and Current Research","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128076156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Patients are presenting with neurological deficit features and the affected areas of the brain are different. Here, we presented three cases of new onset strokes in confirmed COVID-19 patients from Ethiopia, along with their laboratory and imaging findings. These patients had separate clinical and imaging findings, which goes in line with other studies globally. This calls for further study and investigation on the topic.","PeriodicalId":221134,"journal":{"name":"Enormous Journal of Medical Sciences and Current Research","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126044209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: Tardive dyskinesia (TD) is one of incapacitating side effect of neuroleptics. It has been implicated in the morbidity, functional impairment, stigma and overall poor prognosis of patients with schizophrenia. However, there is little information from Ethiopia. Therefore, we conducted a cross-sectional study among 161 schizophrenia patients who were admitted and on follow up at two public hospitals in Addis Ababa. We assessed TD using the Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale. Associated factors Were also analyzed. 1.2. Results: Out of the total study participants, 41(25.5%) have TD. Clinical characteristics variables such as depot antipsychotics, combination of antipsychotics, Chlorpromazine equivalent dose of 400 mg or more and substance use were significantly associated with TD (P – value < 0.05). Nearly half of those with TD had moderate to severe TD which has significant negative impact on their day-to-day activities. 1.3. Conclusion: Prevalence of TD among schizophrenia patients taking antipsychotics is high. Root of administration and higher dose of antipsychotic medication and substance use were found to be factors associated. Rational use of antipsychotics and regular screening for TD for patients who takes antipsychotics is recommended.","PeriodicalId":221134,"journal":{"name":"Enormous Journal of Medical Sciences and Current Research","volume":"28 8","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"113994147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Background: small bowel obstructions account for 15% of hospital admissions for acute abdominal complaints and up to 30% of these patients will require operative intervention. Ethiopia is one of the countries where intestinal obstruction is a major cause of morbidity and mortality. 1.2. Objectives: To assess outcomeand factors associated with gangrenous small bowel obstruction among patients admitted to surgical ward of Hiwot Fana Specialized University Hospital from January 1, 2016-December 31, 2020. 1.3. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on all patients with gangrenous small bowel obstruction admitted to surgical ward of Hiwot Fana Specialized University Hospital from January1, 2016-December 31,2020. For this study, a customized data abstraction form was developed for data capturing from medical records of the patients. The captured data was coded, entered to EpiINFo and exported to statistical package for social sciences software, version 22.0. for analysis. To summarize demographic and clinical characteristics of the patients considered for this study, descriptive statistics such as percent and frequency was employed. All variables with P-value < 0.3, during bi-variable analyses were considered for multivariable logistic regression analyses. Odds ratio along with 95% Confidence interval were estimated to measure the strength of the association. Level of statistical significance was declared at p value less or equal to 0.05. 1.4. Results: A total of 91patiens were included and finally analyzed in this study. From these 52 (57.1%) patients have un favorable surgical outcomes of gangrenous Small bowel obstruction. Of the 52 patients with unfavorable outcome, the most common postoperative complication occurred was anastomotic leak (29.5) followed by surgical site infection (25.5%) and pneumonia (23.6%) . A total of 15 postoperative deaths were also documented as unfavorable surgical management outcomes of gangrenous Small bowel obstruction. Three factors including duration of illness before surgery, length of hospital stay after surgery and shock at presentation were significantly associated withthe surgical management outcome of gangrenous Small Bowel Obstruction. 1.5. Conclusion: In this study, the majority of patients had unfavorable surgical management outcomes of gangrenous Small Bowel Obstruction, however the proportion of patients with favorable outcomes was considerable. Thus, designing a strategy that address the factors associated with unfavorable outcomes could be helpful to further increase the likelihood of favorable surgical management outcomes of gangrenous Small Bowel Obstruction.","PeriodicalId":221134,"journal":{"name":"Enormous Journal of Medical Sciences and Current Research","volume":"1 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128417982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Subsequently, the procedure has been adopted by most transplant centers by replicating the open technique using either a total laparoscopic or hand-assisted technique.In 2011, Tunc reported the first direct upper pole kidney access in laparoscopic radical nephrectomy, with a reverse technique that started the dissection from the upper pole towards the renal hilum. We elected to apply a modification of this new technique to laparoscopic donor surgery to assess efficacy and safety.Methods: Retrospective analysis of sequential cohorts of 36 cases performed in 4 hospitals by the same surgeon over a period of 12 months compared to the previous 28 cases done by the same surgeon using a conventional laparoscopic technique. 1.2.Results: Mean operating time was lower with the upper pole first technique (62 ± 11 minutes vs. 87 ± 13 min) whereas warm ischemia times were similar between two groups (5 min vs 4.7 min). IR treatment is the substitute to the many procedures in which once open surgery was needed. IR procedure can be performed under Digital Radiography (x-ray), Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or Computed Tomography (CT). IR has proved to increase effectiveness as medical imaging technology gives radiologists high visibility, reduces risk as surgery performed are minimally invasive, saves time as there is a short hospital stay, and reduces the pain as procedures are performed with a small incision. Because of quicker recovery time, patients can get back to their daily routine early. Progressive development of prenatal intervention and surgeries was possible due to rapid advances in imaging techniques and prenatal diagnosis over the last few decades. Rapid advanced techniques have become an integral part of managing high-risk pregnancies. In addition to this, the rapidly growing capability of digital optics and miniaturized instrumentation has now allowed fetoscopic procedures to become a reality. With improved imaging techniques, the identification of congenital defects and fetal malformations increases during the antenatal period. Understanding how to treat specific fetal conditions improves outcomes from these treatment modalities. We provide an assessment that begins with a crisp background of fetal surgery, including the history, ethics surrounding fetal surgery, and considerations of dealing with the problems during the fetal intervention.","PeriodicalId":221134,"journal":{"name":"Enormous Journal of Medical Sciences and Current Research","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-08-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129062790","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The use of corticosteroids is an option in an attempt to prevent BPD. Objective: This literature review seeks to understand whether hydrocortisone has benefits in preventing BPD in preterm neonates. Methodology: An integrative review was carried out using Medline / Pubmed, Biblioteca Virtual da Saude (BVS), Cochrane, EMBASE, and Scielo as databases, searching for articles, between 2015 and 2021, that used only hydrocortisone for the prevention of BPD. To assess the methodological and evaluation quality, AMSTAR criteria, and GRADE system were used respectively. Results: From a total of 194 articles, 5 were included in the study, 2 studies observed a decrease in the need for mechanical ventilation, 3 had a decreased mortality rate and in 2 studies the cases of BPD were reduced with the use of hydrocortisone. One study did not show statistical significance for either mortality or BPD prevention with drug use compared with placebo. These studies showed a reduction in the need for invasive mechanical ventilation, as well as an increase in the extubation rate. The death rate for newborns who used hydrocortisone was also lower compared to the control group. Regarding the prevention of BPD, hydrocortisone showed a slight reduction in the number of cases compared to placebo, when started early (<24 hours) and with a low dose) 1.2.Conclusion: The use of low-dose and early-onset of hydrocortisone was superior to placebo in preventing BPD, but hydrocortisone is still not an ideal drug for preventing BPD.","PeriodicalId":221134,"journal":{"name":"Enormous Journal of Medical Sciences and Current Research","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129437209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
