In the field of telecommunications, crowdsourcing makes a viable addition to state of the art benchmarking methods for mobile networks, when combined with mobile sensing approaches to employ smartphones as end nodes. In this paper, we review the opportunities and challenges of using crowdsourced measurements from smartphones for benchmarking mobile networks, and demonstrate some of these generic aspects using an open data set containing over two million entries. We show that there is a big potential to distributing performance measurements towards the peripherals of the network, but in order to achieve accurate benchmarking, the collection of data has to be complemented with appropriate signal processing. Our study also emphasizes the importance of open data and open source tooling in achieving fairness and repeatability.","PeriodicalId":219896,"journal":{"name":"2016 SAI Computing Conference (SAI)","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131473125","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is due to the diversity of the image sources. However, the aim is to widen, as much as possible, the capability of the model to segment several image modalities. Hybridization between some models seems a good alternative to achieve that. In this paper, functional that incorporate several kinds of image information is used: edge detector function, local means and variances, and global means. Such choice allows getting successful segmentation results as it will be shown in the experimental section.","PeriodicalId":219896,"journal":{"name":"2016 SAI Computing Conference (SAI)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134110246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main goal of this paper is to evaluate the performance of QoS in real implementation, also a comparison of an appropriate video and voice (CODECS) over IP schemes depending on the SIP and IAX2 protocols based on the Asterisk PBX server(s), an open source communication platform. The network was implemented within various private networks, such as Wire and Wi-Fi, which serves as a local exchange for placing various calls. Quality has been evaluated based on some QoS parameters such as bandwidth, jitter and delay to investigate the performance of different codecs in video and voice over IP (VVoIP) network. The VVoIP codecs used in the measurements are: G.711 (ulaw&alaw), GSM, G.722, Speex, H.263, H.264, H.261 and H.263P. Evaluation of performance results will give network Planners and Multimedia protocols developers an opportunity to select the codec for VVoIP performance enhancement, which can lead to improved customer satisfaction.","PeriodicalId":219896,"journal":{"name":"2016 SAI Computing Conference (SAI)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122255702","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a major dilemma for the medical sciences to explain the complex mechanisms which regulate the body's function. This article highlights a number of scientifically significant issues which are often ignored in medical research yet which have enormous scientific significance e.g. the influence of sensory input and/or light, the influence of stress, that the body's physiological parameters are neurally regulated, the influence of intercellular acidity (pH), and that genetic changes are often the consequence and not solely the cause of autonomic dysfunction. Accordingly, a greater understanding of such factors leads to the first mathematical model of the autonomic nervous system and physiological systems. It incorporates an understanding of the significance of sensory input, in particular of colour perception, and of the functional organisation of the brain and the autonomic nervous system i.e. of neural networks and organ networks (physiological systems). The existence of the Human Brain Project and Brain Initiative effectively provides a specification for a new generation of medical technology. This enables us to illustrate that the Strannik technology developed by I.G. Grakov already meets the specification outlined i.e. that it meets the key aims and objectives of the Human Brain Project. In particular (i) that it can screen patient health in a level of detail and sophistication which is unprecedented in modern medicine i.e. as Strannik Virtual Scanning, and (ii) that it can be deployed with therapeutic effect i.e. as Strannik Light Therapy. This enables us to address fundamental limitations facing researchers because of their reliance upon contemporary biochemical test measurements.","PeriodicalId":219896,"journal":{"name":"2016 SAI Computing Conference (SAI)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131136701","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cloud computing platform services offer scalable and resilient platforms, but are still not without complexity to the end user community; this paper proposes an alternative solution for the deployment of an intelligent private or public cloud compute platform, built around a set of predefined rule based parameters with the purpose of providing a simplified process for provisioning VMs. The proposed solution incorporates an architecture and design, utilising existing utilities, tools and protocols; it provides example output from the experiment conducted to prove the overall process and concept are feasible for implementation in terms of presenting a simplified deployment mechanism. By using an Intelligent Decision Engine (IDE), it enables strict adherence to a set of standard build parameters based around expert system administration knowledge, which uniquely supports a one-click VM deployment procedure. Subsequent control and management of the system environment and VMs then continue to be managed through use of the IDE and its expert knowledge base.","PeriodicalId":219896,"journal":{"name":"2016 SAI Computing Conference (SAI)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116716423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Live Migration (LM) of VMs is used for transferring a working VM from one host to another host of a different physical machine without interfering with the existing VMs. However, little research has been done in considering the real time resource consumption and latency of live VM migration that reduces these benefits to much less than their potential. In this paper, we present an analysis of LM in our unique TransAtlantic high speed optical fibre network connecting Northern Ireland, Dublin and Halifax (Canada). We show that the total migration times as well as total network data transfer for post-copy LM are both dominated by specific VM memory patterns using loaded or unloaded VMs. We also found that the downtime for different VM memory patterns is not extremely varied and no severe effect is experienced over our long distance network.","PeriodicalId":219896,"journal":{"name":"2016 SAI Computing Conference (SAI)","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121170974","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is built to offer fascinating features to support business development, such as elasticity, multi-tenancy, configurability and dynamicity. However, IaaS faces security challenges on account of its flexible nature. For this article, we studied the IaaS characteristics and investigated their related security challenges. We then elaborated these security challenges by exploring the security threats on live virtual machine migration as it is one of the main IaaS operations. We found that proper access control techniques and models are a critical element in enhancing IaaS and mitigating the identified security threats. Therefore, we investigated and contrasted the implemented and the proposed firewall architectures in IaaS as a firewall is a basic security appliance that enforces access control. We also explored and contrasted the proposed access control models in the IaaS. It was found that the traditional firewalls and access control models were not sufficient for IaaS. Therefore, there is a need to develop a proper access control model and enforcement techniques to mitigate IaaS security threats. Based on the security research trend and the results obtained in this article's exploration, we endorse an IaaS access control system built on a computational intelligent approach.","PeriodicalId":219896,"journal":{"name":"2016 SAI Computing Conference (SAI)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129241441","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study proposes virtual-reality (VR) simulator system for double interventional cardiac catheterization (ICC) using fractional order vascular access tracker and haptic force producer. An endoscope or a catheter for diagnosis and surgery of cardiovascular disease has been commonly used in minimally invasive surgery. It needs specific skills and experiences for young surgeons or postgraduate year (PGY) students to operate a Berman catheter and a pigtail catheter in the inside of the human body and requires avoiding damaging vessels. To improve the training in inserting catheters, a double-catheter mechanism is designed for the ICC procedures. A fractional-order vascular access tracker is used to trace the senior surgeons' consoled trajectories and transmit the frictional feedback and visual feedback during the insertion of catheters. Based on the clinical feeling through the aortic arch, vein into the ventricle, or tortuous blood vessels, haptic force producer is used to mock the elasticity of the vessel wall using voice coil motors (VCMs). The VR establishment with surgeons' consoled vessel trajectories and hand feeling is achieved, and the experimental results show the effectiveness for the double ICC procedures.","PeriodicalId":219896,"journal":{"name":"2016 SAI Computing Conference (SAI)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2016-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131706523","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
