The growing awareness that biodiversity is a precious global asset to present and future generation and that species survival and the integrity of habitats and ecosystems are at serious risk, has increased significantly the importance of biodiversity related research. The loss of biodiversity is a global crisis, there is hardly an region on the earth that is not facing ecological catastrophes. Of the 1.7 million species known to inhabit the earth (Human is just one of them), one third to one fourthvof the species is likely to extinct within the next few decades. The cultivars that were focused on during this research were “Hass” and “Gem”. It may also reduce the risk of infection and inflammation in these cultivars. Methanolic and ethanolic moringa extracts were also examined for their antifungal properties. Shortly, 1% Carboxyl methylcellulose which is shown as CMC and 2% MLE which is Moringa Leaf Extract or MSE which is moringa seed extract, were combined. The fruit was either coated with either (MLE + CMC) or that of (MSE + CMC) and then it was kept at a temperature of 5.5°C and 95% relative humidity (RH) for a period of 21 days. The fruit was kept at ambient temperatures i.e. 21°C and 60% RH, after being refrigerated to approximate retailing conditions. Fruit firmness and postharvest quality indicators including ethylene production and respiration rate were analyzed. In relation to potato dextrose agarose which is shortened as PDA, both coatings were also evaluated for their effectiveness against the fungus which may spoil the fruit quality during postharvest opperations. Compared to uncoated fruit, the coated fruit was noticed to have less mass loss. Respiration rates were also observed to be decreased along with Ethylene production, in a contrast to the uncoated fruit. A. alternata and C. gloeosporioides were both inhibited by ethanol leaf extract by 43.60% and 42.90%, respectively. All pathogens exposed to coverings had damaged hyphal structures, while uncoated fruit had healthy hyphal structures. Stronger antibacterial activity was observed in ethanolic moringa leaf extracts as compared to the extracts that were derived from methanol. The outcomes of this research showed that carboxyl methylcellulose CMC containing moringa extract reduces illnesses in fruit. Throughout the postharvest supply chain, it also maintains the general quality of avocados. The shelf life of the avocado was remarkably increased. The avocado sector may eventually commercialize the moringa extracts combined with carboxyl methylcellulose, as a new organic edible covering.","PeriodicalId":219819,"journal":{"name":"Haya: The Saudi Journal of Life Sciences","volume":" 31","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-07-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141679184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Vegetables are abundant sources of proteins, fats, minerals, carbohydrates, vitamins and antioxidants. The consumption of leafy vegetables is steadily rising in both urban and rural communities. The rising content of cadmium (Cd) in the food chain through the wastewater poses a significant threat to growth of plants and human health. Cadmium interferes with plant processes like transpiration, nitrogen assimilation, photosynthesis, and respiration. Main purpose of this experiment was to investigate the side effects of various exposure durations and various Cd concentrations on the physiology and growth of spinach. This research was conducted using a factorial design with five Cd doses and three exposure durations (25, 50, and 75 days), set up according to CRD and applying three replications. Results indicated that leaf area, root length and plant height were impacted by Cadmium concentrations up to 40 mg kg-1. Additionally, biochemical, and photosynthetic parameters were also affected. Spinach showed tolerance to various levels of cadmium. The highest tolerance index for spinach was observed at 10 mg Cd kg−1 soil after 50 DoE, while the lowest tolerance index was recorded at 40 mg Cd kg−1 soil after 75 DoE. Cd accumulation in the vegetables, daily intake via consumption poses significant health risks. The findings suggest that both the duration of exposure and Cd dosage are critical in determining Cd toxicity, as evidenced by significant reductions in spinach growth and physiological parameters. Consequently, the consumption of such Cd-contaminated vegetables could pose serious health risks to humans.","PeriodicalId":219819,"journal":{"name":"Haya: The Saudi Journal of Life Sciences","volume":"15 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-06-04","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"141387893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These substances, which have anabolic action and enhance animal performance in many meat-exporting nations, include beta-agonists, anabolic hormones, and bovine somatotropin. Additionally, as the animal's nutritional status influences the availability of nutrients needed for the advancement of development and growth, the development of multiple and individual organs depends on it. Since the sources and accessibility of nutrients vary depending on the animal's developmental stage, changes in the animal's nutritional status are normal. Furthermore, obstacles from the external environment also drastically alter extrinsic nutritional conditions. Despite tremendous advances in animal science and related technologies, there are still a lot of unanswered questions about how hormones impact the welfare and productivity of food animals as well as the public's perception of their usage. Bridging these gaps through translational and transformational research progress both basic and applied animal science, with the goal of feeding an expanding population.","PeriodicalId":219819,"journal":{"name":"Haya: The Saudi Journal of Life Sciences","volume":"37 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139010826","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This experiment was conducted according to complete randomized design. Three treatments of benzoic acid (100 ml/L, 200 ml/L and 400 ml/L) were used. Data was recorded for plant height, number of tillers/m2, flag leaf area, spike length, number of grains/spike and plant dry weight/m2. Then data was analyzed by ANOVA and mean values of each treatment were compared by using Fisher’s LSD. The results showed that foliar use of benzoic acid at 200 ml/L provided the best results for all traits (number of tillers/m2, flag leaf area, spike length, number of grains/spike and plant dry weight/m2) except plant height. Foliar application of benzoic acid at 200 ml/L greatly enhance the growth and yield in wheat. This was because of increase in auxin production or increase in cell division. While height was the only trait which was gradually decreased with the increase of benzoic acid level.","PeriodicalId":219819,"journal":{"name":"Haya: The Saudi Journal of Life Sciences","volume":"45 13","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139011869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given how often drought stress occurs and how many plant diseases have been reported to be affected by it, this combination of stresses may be considered one of the most important combinations affecting crop yields.
