The problem imposed by the traditional VSI inverter, to develop the relatively high DC voltage from the relatively low AC voltages of AC machine in 42 V ISA system, has been addressed in this paper. The proposed converter achieved boost mode DC-AC inversion and buck mode AC-DC rectification, hence allowing the peak voltage of the AC motor to exceed the 42 V DC bus voltage substantially. In the rectification mode, it can achieve the regulated output DC voltage with VWF AC source without extra close-loop control. The paper investigates the quadrant operation of the converter, its control, its steady-state performance, and experimental verification.","PeriodicalId":219425,"journal":{"name":"2008 Twenty-Third Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115135609","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It's composed by one half-bridge chopper that operates in open loop with fixed duty cycle, a step-up converter that operates in closed loop using the traditional average current mode control and a traditional full bridge voltage source inverter (VSI). The step-up converter control provides power factor correction to the system. The proposed circuit is suitable for the development of low power UPSs (less than 1 kVA) which few batteries are used. In such applications the battery bank voltage, can be 24 V, 36 V or 48 V. Principle of operation, as well as, experimental results for the UPS operating in both, grid and battery modes are presented. Accordingly to the experimental results for a 1 kVA assembled prototype, an efficiency of 81,3% is obtained for grid mode and 89,2% for the battery mode, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed configuration.","PeriodicalId":219425,"journal":{"name":"2008 Twenty-Third Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127316555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, several disadvantages exist when implementing optocoupler feedback, such as a variable loop gain due to optocoupler tolerance and sensitivity to temperature, as well as a relatively high cost. An alternative to optocoupler feedback is to use magnetic feedback, which can be designed to have insensitivity to component tolerance, and good temperature stability. Although magnetic feedback has been in use for many years, a detailed analysis and clear design procedure has not been presented in the literature. This paper presents a thorough analysis of a magnetic feedback implementation, and provides a comprehensive design procedure which is verified on a 7-V/15-W experimental prototype.","PeriodicalId":219425,"journal":{"name":"2008 Twenty-Third Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126729968","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed charge balance method is implemented with analog components and is cheaper and more effective than its digital counterparts since complex arithmetic and sampling delay is eliminated. The proposed controller will consistently cause the Buck converter to recover from an arbitrary load transient with the smallest possible voltage deviation in the shortest possible settling time. Since the controller is non-linear during transient conditions, it is not limited by bandwidth/switching frequency. Unlike conventional linear controllers, the dynamic response (voltage deviation, settling time) of the proposed controller can be accurately predicted using a set of equations. This greatly simplifies the design process of the output filter. Simulation and experimental results show the functionality of the controller and demonstrate the superior dynamic response over that of a conventional linear controller.","PeriodicalId":219425,"journal":{"name":"2008 Twenty-Third Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116081774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The regulator electrical model along with the rail passive network enables the prediction of the design impedance profile. The accuracy gained by using a non-linear regulator model is emphasized in the paper. The impedance profile resonances are under-estimated while using a linear average regulator model. The miss prediction is more severe as the amount of regulator filter capacitance is reduced. Accurate prediction of a marginal regulator design thus necessitates the usage of a switching regulator model.","PeriodicalId":219425,"journal":{"name":"2008 Twenty-Third Annual IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122788443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) is equipped with several high powered electric devices such as DC/DC converters and DC/AC inverters. Considering that there are many restrictions in mounting and wiring the electric power system in engine room, analysis and modeling of electromagnetic interference (EMI) coupling path is crucial in designing optimal electric power system satisfying various EMC regulations. In this paper, conductive common mode (CM) and differential mode (DM) equivalent models for those electric power converters used in HEV were developed and evaluated through the simulation both in time domain and frequency domain using FFT.
