Atmospheric oscillation is regarded as a measure of the global circulation influence of pressure, temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind, cloud cover in the local regions. The intensity and time of action teleconnection patterns can be determined by examining the correlation between indices of atmospheric oscillations and anomalies of meteorological quantities (pressure, temperature and precipitation).This paper examined the impact of 10 atmospheric oscillations and an oceanic oscillation on pressure anomalies, temperature anomalies and precipitation anomalies in Serbia, during the winter (DJF), from 1950 to 2010 years using a multidimensional PCA method.These results distinguished the dominant influence of certain oscillations in each of the meteorological elements.","PeriodicalId":219241,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Remote Sensing Applications","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127869159","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Usually fast scanning lidar has a relative simple configuration. Multiwavelength depolarization and Raman measurements gave us more information about the particulate shape, type and dimension. The most Raman lidars use high power laser source in order to get enough Raman scattering signal. One of a challenge for Raman lidar system is to have enough dynamic range to satisfy the measurements both for pure molecule Rayleigh scattering and high dene aerosol, such as dust storm, volcano emitted aerosol and high polluted urban aerosol. The estimation of microphysical properties requires independent measurements of both backscatter and extinction coefficient at several wavelengths (multiwavelength Raman lidar). Additional information can be retrieved from simultaneous measurements of the depolarization signal and water vapor mixing ratio, since those measurements are particularly useful to correlate aerosol optical properties with their shape and hygroscopicity. A multi-wavelength depolarization and Raman lidar system has been designed to perform volume scanning of the atmosphere and to retrieve high quality 3D map of particulate optical properties and their time evolution. This system is equipped with a doubled and tripled Nd:YAG diode-pumped laser that is specifically designed for this device, with a repetition rate of 1KHz and average optical power of 0.6W at 355nm, 1.5W at 532nm and 1W at 1064nm. The relative high repetition rate laser source can increase the detectable signal dynamic range. The receiving system is based on a 25cm modified Cassegrain telescope. The spectral selection of the backscatter elastic and Raman signals is made through a system of dichroic beam splitters and narrow band (0.5 nm) interferential filters. Fast single photon counting photomultipliers are used to collect the selected radiation. Each detected signal is acquired by multichannel scalers with a raw spatial resolution varying from 30cm to 30m. Moreover, polarization purity of laser line allows to perform polarization measurements at both 355 and 532nm. This device is installed in the Beijing city area, which is strongly affected from anthropogenic pollution and sand dust from Gobi desert.","PeriodicalId":219241,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Remote Sensing Applications","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122248404","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For radars with different wavelength, scattering from precipitation particles may be approximated with different kinds of scattering theory, i.e. Mie scattering and Rayleigh scattering. When Mie scattering is used, the computation of the physical quantity that characterizes backscattering of the particle is completed, and the computation is much simpler when Rayleigh scattering is used. In traditional methods, a fixed threshold of the particle scale parameter is used as the criterion to discriminate Rayleigh scattering, that is, the particle size should be smaller than the wavelength of electromagnetic wave. In this work, the analysis on raindrop scattering against radars with different wavelength are discussed. It is concluded that the backscattering cross-section ratio of Mie scattering to Rayleigh scattering is more reasonable than the particle scale parameter for the measure of the criterion to discriminate Rayleigh scattering. Moreover, a small particle compared with the wavelength is a sufficient but not necessary condition for Rayleigh scattering.","PeriodicalId":219241,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Remote Sensing Applications","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123542840","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study attempts to identify and explore the rate and spatial variation of crime in Thiruvananthapuram city for a period from 2010 to 2014. The improved computer based technologies like GIS and availability of Geographic data make it possible for law and enforcement agencies to create analytical maps and various analysis to identify the crime hotspot area .The hotspot analysis in Geographic Information System is helpful for the identification of crime hotspot through spatial auto correlation, spatial analysis and interpolation. The Moran's I test statistic of spatial auto correlation has been done prior to GetisOrd Gi* hotspot analysis to find out the clustering pattern as well as the outliers in the data. The crime hotspot analysis uses vectors to identify the locations of statistically significant crime hotspots and cold spots and IDW interpolation method is used for better visualization. These methods are applied on the crime data of Thiruvananthapuram city of Kerala state to find the hotspots for crime incidents like Murder, Robbery, Snatching and Theft.","PeriodicalId":219241,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Remote Sensing Applications","volume":"151 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114520620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The information obtained from multi-directions must be more abundant and more accurate than that of from a single direction in a SAR image. The Contourlet transform is a multi-scale geometric analysis theory, holding many advantages for signal processing, such as multi-resolution, multi-direction and anisotropy; therefore, it is in favor of extracting different direction information for SAR images. According to the directional sensitivity of SAR imaging and the characteristics of multi-scale and multi direction to the Contourlet transform, this paper proposed a new SAR image change detection method based on Contourlet transform, called CTCD algorithm. Using the multi-direction characteristic of Contourlet transform, the CTCD method can get more accurate changed information for multi-temporal SAR images. The practical SAR image data is employed to test the CTCD algorithm and results show that the CTCD algorithm is a feasible change detection algorithm for multi-temporal SAR images, and it can obtain more abundant and more accurate information than the direct difference change detection (DDCD) algorithm.","PeriodicalId":219241,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Remote Sensing Applications","volume":"95 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126882043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two contrasting coastal environments are prevailing in the area, namely; the macro tidal Hooghly estuary in the east; and the mesotidal Midnapore Coastal plain to the west. A morphogenetic study based on the terrain mapping unit (TMU) concept reveals the form- process-material interactions of these two contrasting coastal environments with a possible geo-history model of the coastal Quaternaries. It has been established that the entire process-response system of the coastal tract of the Bengal plain started operating after the rise of sea level around 6000yrs B.P. (i.e., optimum of flandrian transgression) and the Hooghly estuary, the mangrove vegetation plays a significant role as the dominant geomorphic agent in the evolution of the tidal shoals and their eventual accretion to the main landmass resulting in delta progradation. In the present-day scenario, the Hooghly estuary becomes the abandoned part of the Ganga-Brahmaputra delta in India, and is also turning destructive and forming erosional regime in the mesotidal Midnapore coastal area.","PeriodicalId":219241,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Remote Sensing Applications","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123076097","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, studies by the World Health Organization, amongst others, have found that miraa is a mild addictive drug whose continued heavy consumption can result in adverse physical and mental health effects, and therefore whose production and marketing should be discouraged. Few, if any, studies have been done to accurately quantify miraa production in areas where it grows, yet this is an important statistic for informed decision making on the crop. This paper describes a study that has mapped, using remote sensing and GIS techniques, the miraa plantations of the Igembe region of Meru County in Kenya, which is a major source of khat globally. Supervised classification of Landsat 8 imagery was carried out, with overall classification accuracy and kappa statistic of 78% and 0.72 respectively obtained. It was found that over 70,000 hectares of miraa are planted in this region, representing a regional potential per capita income of USD 2345, very high by Kenyan standards. The paper concludes that miraa is a widely grown crop of high economic significance in this region in terms of income and employment creation, and that the region’s economy would be adversely affected if the marketing of miraa were to cease.","PeriodicalId":219241,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Remote Sensing Applications","volume":"230 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127688732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
