RF energy harvesting is a promising energy harvesting technology in which we can harvest energy anytime and anywhere if rectifier antenna (Rectenna) can harvest the energy from small power environmental RF signals. The research team of The University of Electro-Communications and Kanazawa Institute of Technology has investigated RF energy harvesting as a national project of JST/CREST to achieve high power conversion efficiency at input power range from -40 to -20dBm at various frequencies. We have investigated a super-steep transistor as a rectifier device, a meta-material antenna, and Rectenna design methodology, as well as high communication rate back scatter RF TAG as a new application. We have achieved 40% efficiency at -30dBm input power from environment AM radio signal, 72% efficiency at -30dBm and 900MHz CW RF signal, and 78% efficiency at -30dBm and 2.4GHz RF signal. We also have been successful to harvest 2.77uW power from -20dBm and 950MHz environment cell phone signal from a base station.","PeriodicalId":218972,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115334990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we present an initial study on estimating 3-D hand joints using the state-of-the-art neuronal network. We firstly propose a pre-processing step that is to separate hand regions from clustered background. We deploy the completed pipeline for estimating 3-D hand joints based on HandPointNet (HPN). HPN demonstrates the state-of-the-art hand pose estimation performances with depth data. We deploy a fine-tuning scheme to Hand PointNet (HPN) on the CVAR [1], UCI-EGO [2] datasets for 3D hand pose estimation. In the experimental results, we evaluate the estimated results using the pre-processing step to see the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that 3-D joint estimation errors are decreased comparing with the full hand data on different datasets as MSRA, NYU, ICVL. Particularly, we measure the estimation errors of missing, obscured data. The experimental results infer that, it is still existing a big gap between the results of un-occluded and occluded cases. Based on this initial study, we tend to investigate more deeply the techniques addressing the object occlusions or self-occlusions cases that make the current networks hard to localize hidden joints/parts of the hand.","PeriodicalId":218972,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122549339","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Metallic 3D patterns are created in four corners of a substrate layers and the patterning in the unit cell is admitted to extending into unit cells, thus achieving a high frequency response with much smaller unit cell size and thickness. This research has been successfully designed with the reflection phase ±90° with the bandwidth of the AMC metamaterial is 9.5 – 10.5GHz with the center frequency of 10 GHz (0° reflection phase). This work shows the great potential of the application with anti-reflection surfaces and low-radar cross section (RCS) platforms.","PeriodicalId":218972,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128790398","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The forest parameters extracted by the proposed method are implemented through three stages. The topographic phase and the range of mean extinction coefficients can be determined in the first two stages by searching optimal polarization channels. The forest height is retrieved in the final stage based on the determination of a complex coherence coefficient for direct scattering component from canopy layer. The effectiveness of the proposed method was assessed with simulation data from PolSARprosim 5.2 software. Experimental results show that the proposed method has improved the accuracy of the estimated forest height compared to the Tayebe’s Method by roughly 6.85%.","PeriodicalId":218972,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126593151","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The HDS system is one of the most promising approaches for storing massive digital data for the next-generation optical data storage systems. However, the performance of retrieving data in the HDS system is severely affected by fatal interference (FI) patterns. The proposed coding design aims to get rid of all FI patterns during the recording procedure with reasonable computational complexity.","PeriodicalId":218972,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117333152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wi-Fi as a best-effort network cannot satisfy user expectations for carrier-grade quality and today, users consider Internet service providers responsible for Wi-Fi quality degradation. Thus, notion of perceived quality of service (PQoS) and quality of experience (QoE) have been extensively used as quality indicators of user satisfaction. This paper provides a review of state-of-the-art literature to investigate machine learning techniques for estimating PQoS in Wi-Fi networks. In this paper, only literature that attempted to estimate QoE based on network performance parameters on Wi-Fi networks have been investigated and categorized based on their problem area and machine learning techniques. The review indicated promising achievements using machine learning techniques to identify wireless problems and accordingly improve the quality. However, estimation of PQoS requires further research with recent IEEE 802.11 technology advancements and machine learning approaches.","PeriodicalId":218972,"journal":{"name":"2020 International Conference on Advanced Technologies for Communications (ATC)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121987617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
