The work is based on the L2R (Learning to Reason) framework. A L2R agent only needs to answer knowledge queries that are relevant to its environment in a Probably Approximately Correct sense. We develop an L2R KB of Boolean functions by training a context-sensitive Multiple Task Learning network on examples of the truth tables of those functions. Reasoning is abstracted as a deduction task of determining whether a query Q is entailed by the KB. This is done by testing the neural network model on the truth table examples of Q to determine if the L2R KB agrees. Experimental results show that for different logical KBs and deduction rules the L2R approach shows promise.","PeriodicalId":218111,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 28th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114802235","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Control inputs are: valves activation time, pitch angle, solar pump rate and compressor rate, measurements are: temperatures at critical points, and disturbances are: ambient air temperature, source water temperature and the position of the sun relative to the plane of the solar thermal collector. In this context, the problem of maintaining temperature within the given range of the thermal storage is considered. To address this problem, the model is developed based on lumped-parameter analysis. Using the model, three controllers are tested in simulations, i.e, the on-off controller, the PI controller and the scheduling controller. The modeling will be useful in developing optimal control for high efficiency ITHS.","PeriodicalId":218111,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 28th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"219 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128170088","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Regarding synchronization as a state estimation problem, an observer design approach is used for estimating full state dynamics. Stability of the trajectories to be synchronized is determined by utilization of the contraction theory that provides an efficient tool for analyzing convergence of manifolds with respect to each other. Thereupon, a region where contraction of trajectories takes place is determined; therefore the corresponding error dynamics of the model remain in that contracting region. Consequent results are also supported by a numerical simulation example in the end demonstrating the effectiveness of our approach.","PeriodicalId":218111,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 28th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128171085","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This transmitter uses a first order, sigma-delta modulator for one-bit quantization and noise shaping. The binary signal is passed through high-speed multiplexing circuits for frequency upconvertion directly from base-band to the desired carrier frequency [1]. This digital implementation has interesting features such as reconfigurability as well as preserving a good signal quality, at an additional expense of the high speed components required to perform oversampling and multiplexing. The behavior of the all-digital transmitter is simulated and measured using a baseband signal having 1.94 MHz bandwidth up-converted to 2.5 GHz carrier frequency. The implementation steps are shown along with the obtained simulation and measurement results. The overall linearity performance are given in terms of gain response, signal-to-noise-and-distortion ratio (SNDR) and the adjacent-channel-power ratio (ACPR).","PeriodicalId":218111,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 28th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131984762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed algorithm uses three fuzzy inference systems (FISs); one is used as an actor (fuzzy logic controller, FLC), and the other two FISs are used as critics. The proposed algorithm uses the residual gradient value iteration algorithm described in [4] to tune the input and the output parameters of the actor (FLC) of the learning robot. The proposed algorithm also tunes the input and the output parameters of the critics. The proposed algorithm is called the residual gradient fuzzy actor critics learning (RGFACL) algorithm. The proposed algorithm is used to learn a single pursuit-evasion differential game. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed RGFACL algorithm outperforms the performance of the fuzzy actor critic learning (FACL) and the Q-learning fuzzy inference system (QLFIS) algorithms proposed in [3] and [7], respectively, in terms of convergence and speed of learning.","PeriodicalId":218111,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 28th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132044626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

MATLAB simulations are performed to prove the validity of the extended regulator where it is also compared with the existing type-1 regulator. Information from raw EMG signals is extracted by application of “Wavelet Transform”. This technique holds good in handling non stationary signals which ordinary Fourier Transform and even Short Time Fourier Transform fail to handle. In this work, by applying wavelet transform, signal was first de-noised and then some unique parameters were calculated. This set of features were then used as reference to identify different movements. Later, signals from test subjects were acquired and the same features were extracted. A cost function is used to identify the movement. The weighted vertex connectivity is introduced as a metric to evaluate the connectivity of the weighted expected graph of a random sensor network where the elements of the weight matrix represent the operational probability of their corresponding communication links. The proposed weighted vertex connectivity measure extends the notion of vertex connectivity to random graphs by taking into account the joint effects of the path reliability and the network robustness to node failure. The approximate weighted vertex connectivity measure is defined subsequently as a lower bound on the introduced connectivity metric which can be computed by applying a polynomial-time shortest path algorithm. The performance of the proposed algorithms is validated by simulation.","PeriodicalId":218111,"journal":{"name":"2015 IEEE 28th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE)","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-05-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132641075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
