Thus, it is important for network elements, such as the Base Stations (BSs) of cellular networks or access points (APs) of wireless local area networks (WLANs) to be reconfigurable according to the real-time network environment. This will enable interconnection between different networks. In this paper, we propose an efficient distributed reconfiguration algorithm: the Dynamic Network Self-optimization Algorithm (DNSA). This algorithm is based on the widely used Q-learning algorithm and regards the network self-optimization entity of each radio access network as an independent intelligent agent. Multiple agents perform the optimization cooperatively to reduce the system blocking rate and improve network revenue. In the proposed algorithm, the dynamic network self-optimization problem is transformed into a multi-agent reinforcement learning problem, which has much lower complexity and better performance.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114598191","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Access to such devices across wireless and mobile interfaces raises challenges which do not normally exist when forensic analysis of hard drives and other storage media occurs. Only limited research has been carried out in this area of wireless forensics and this paper discusses the design and proofof- concept testing of a forensic application tool which runs on a desktop computer and can be used to extract data from mobile devices consistent with forensic analysis used on non-mobile equipment. This paper addresses new ideas in data acquisition over wireless networks irrespective of the underlying reason for the acquisition requirements of such information. This project succeeded in demonstrating the mapping of a mobile device's internal and external memory and the copying of folders and files from memory to a computer across a mobile interface.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123944128","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed approach derives the theoretical BER in the presence of non-linear distortion and time selective fading effects. Since the BER is represented by the simple series form formula, the proposed approach frees us from the time-consuming computer simulations. The validity of the proposed approach is confirmed by the agreement with the computer simulation results under various kinds of system parameters such as the input back-off (IBO) and the normalized maximum Doppler frequency.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"108 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115167296","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, strong tonal compression in tone mapping process often causes those tone-mapped LDR images to have much less local contrast compared with the original HDR images. In this paper, we propose a novel contrast enhancement algorithm to bring the local contrast of the tonemapped images closer to that of the HDR images and formulate it as an optimization problem. Simulation results suggest that the proposed method can greatly enhance the visual quality of the tone-mapped images by bringing out details in the extreme bright and dark regions.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128738769","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed algorithm estimates the multicode interference components at the chip rate, and then it improves the detection performance e by removing the estimated interferences from received signal. The computer simulation shows that the receiver adapting the proposed algorithm decreases the receiving power by 6.0 dB to achieve 10−2 uncoded BER compared with conventional LMMSE algorithm.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130305407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It offers a coverage on common security aspects such as encryption and authentication, and it can be easily modified to work with any distance-vector-based routing for MANET (Mobile Ad hoc Networks). The suite utilizes powerful authentication and user-adjustable encryptions based on digital certificate chaining and popular ciphers such as DES, AES, and RSA. The security strength can be customized to reach a desired balance with the performance of the network. The suite has a highly modular design, which allows additional security strength to be added on top of the existing framework. This attractive feature enables heterogeneous applications to utilize various levels of security routing on the same MANET. The multiple levels of security strengths are careful analyzed. The range of impacts on network performance is also illustrated by simulation, which shows that the strongest security scheme still achieves about 75% of the throughput, while incurs 20–30% additional delay.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"54 11","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120924312","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This joint design can keep up system efficacy and flexibility in dynamic networks where peer churn, peer mobility and search redundancy become stickier. In addition, a special reputation tree is exploited to mitigate the free-riding problem over a large-scale system. By simulation results, the proposed scheme can react to above issues without loss of prominent performance.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115868995","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With increasing demand for bandwidth, service providers are installing more and more relay base stations to supplement the main base station. Although relays help increase the coverage and capacity of the network, they also end up raising the net interference in the system. Decentralized relay selection algorithms that do not take interference into account, could end up under-using the capacity of the network. In this paper we propose a two-hop decentralized relay selection scheme using directional antennas that mitigates the effects of interference and performs better than the “nearest relay selection”[1] algorithm in networks with less number of relay stations. Furthermore we propose a relaying scheme where the network adaptively chooses a relay selection algorithm to use, based on the current number of relay stations in the network.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"46 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126330808","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The goal of this project is to provide novel architectural and compiler support for the extraction and execution of coarse-grain parallelism in multi-media applications on parallel-embedded systems. We first give an overview of the architecture and its novel features. We then describe the need for and the details of its compiler support. We present an experimental evaluation of a prototype MLCA system, including the architecture and the compiler. The results indicate that the MLCA is a promising architecture for supporting coarse-grain parallelism on parallel embedded systems.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126512033","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In order to remove the feedback channel, we develop a hybrid structure combining the conventional predictive video coding and the Wyner-Ziv video coding schemes. From the information of the neighboring predictive-coded macroblocks, the proposed hybrid scheme estimates the required channel code rate of the Wyner-Ziv coded macroblocks in order to eliminate the requirement of feedback channel. Experiment results indicate that it achieves good coding performance on sequences having linear and slow motion.","PeriodicalId":217751,"journal":{"name":"2009 IEEE Pacific Rim Conference on Communications, Computers and Signal Processing","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126679180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
