Cavity formation was observed only in pure vanadium irradiated at 430 to 600 C and in V-5Ti irradiated at 600 C. No apparent cavity formation was obtained in V-3Ti-1Si and V-4Cr-4Ti. The precipitation of titanium oxide in V-5Ti, V-3Ti-1Si and V-4Cr-4Ti occurred in all irradiation conditions in this study and the precipitates of Ti{sub 5}Si{sub 3} only appeared in V-3Ti-1Si irradiated at 600 C up to 15 dpa with helium generation rate of 4 appmHe/dpa. It is suggested that titanium oxide plays an important role for suppression of cavity formation and swelling from early stage of irradiation. Detail characterization of precipitates and He effect for neutron damages in vanadium alloys are discussed here.","PeriodicalId":21586,"journal":{"name":"Science reports of the Research Institutes, Tohoku University. The results show the dimensionality crossover from the two-dimensional square lattice Ising model to the three-dimensional simple cubic Ising model. Furthermore, the CAM analysis is performed to evaluate the critical exponent γ of the three-dimensional simple cubic ferromagnetic Ising model, which shows that γ =1.21(4). The present analysis is also applicable to the study of the phase transition of quantum spin systems.","PeriodicalId":21586,"journal":{"name":"Science reports of the Research Institutes, Tohoku University. The magnitude of the twist is greatly increased, if the specimen is plastically deformed in torsion prior to observations. The effect of the elastic stress is systematically studied by observing the zero point drift on cooling and heating under the applied torque; both the precipitation and the dissolution processes are found to be affected by the external stress. Hydrides in vanadium is known to precipitate in the form of platelets along particular crystallographic planes. The twist effect can be interpreted as the preferential precipitation (dissolution) of one type of platelets over others under the effect of external or internal stresses.","PeriodicalId":21586,"journal":{"name":"Science reports of the Research Institutes, Tohoku University. By means of a hydrostatic tension test with a Bridgman-type specimen it was found that the fracture behavior of the alloy is highly dependent on stress state. Under conditions of low triaxial stress, the alloy displays excellent ductility. Under conditions of high triaxial stress, however, it shows less strain to fracture and a transition from ductile to cleavage fracture. The toughness of the Fe-30Cr-2Mo alloy can be significantly improved by thermomechanical processing.","PeriodicalId":21586,"journal":{"name":"Science reports of the Research Institutes, Tohoku University.
