Documentation review was carried out with regard to principles and applications of Cleaner Production, identifying strategies associated with its implementation in processes, products, and services. A university campus was characterized, being the target of the present study, as a mix of processes with entries, operations, and outputs related to the distinct schools and departments. Relevant usages and consumptions of electricity, fuels, water, and paper were identified among others. Also, guidelines for further recollection of quantitative data as well as the unit costs of their utilization were established. A methodology for implementation of a Cleaner Production program at a university campus was elaborated on the basis of five general steps: 1) Planning and Organization, 2) Diagnostic, 3) Feasibility Study, 4) Implementation and Monitoring, and 5) Continuous Improvement. The substance can be solid particles (e.g. dust, ash, pollen, smoke) liquid droplets, or gases. To determine the aerodynamic pressure and the power loss, the governing modified Reynolds’ equation, and the viscous dissipation term appearing on the RHS of the modified energy equation are derived using the V. K. Stokes micro-continuum theory. According to the obtained results, the effects of couple stresses on the steady-state and dynamic behavior of foil self-acting gas bearings are significant and cannot be overlooked. The results also show that the dynamic deformation of the bump foil should be included in calculating the dynamic performance characteristics of foil journal bearings. {"title":"Reduction in picking times orders for delivery in a national distribution center: A case study","authors":"A. Freile, J. There the cycle time to prepare an order was high (from 2 to 8 hours depending on the order type). The warehouse presented some inconveniences such as: long time to perform operations and great mobilization of people and products. Consequently, this study aims to: reduce order picking times and therefore reduce picking costs. The methodology used divided the study in two phases: current situation analysis, and improvement proposal which includes the results. During the first phase, problem solving tools were used to identify the main causes. Then, to develop the improvement proposal, a binary integer programing model was designed to present a new –more appropriate – configuration of the existing SKUs allocation within the warehouse considering type of products constraints (e.g. products belong to different families and products within a family have similar characteristics) and ABC classification. The results showed that an adequate configuration of the picking area resulted in decrease of personnel mobilization, reduction of picking times and reduction of operative cost associated with picking including cost of reverse logistics. This is a problem that happens to many companies in the retail sector because, it does not have tools or controls that allow it to evaluate its development in such processes. To solve this problem, a management of purchases and inventories is proposed based on tools that involve the development of demand forecasting in order to be able to evaluate the trend and fluctuation of the demand, so that the company is prepared for any change. On the other hand, an ABC classification of products to be able to take into account those products that have a higher turnover. In addition, the development of economic lots, safety stocks and replenishment points to track inventories in the warehouse. Finally, an adequate control of the management by means of procedures, policies and formats that will allow a standardization and a correct flow of said processes. All this, in order to contribute to the reduction of operating costs and increase the utility of the company.
