In organizations, we can find various \"ba,\" such as cyberspace for a community of practice to gather and open physical space for collaboration beyond divisions. \"Ba\" develops circulation of knowledge and is the key to improving competitive advantage of organizations. When benchmarking was conducted in leading KM companies, we found that the method of utilizing \"ba\" was very logically adapted to the business strategy, which supported corporate culture for knowledge sharing. However, it is difficult for a corporation to implement appropriate \"ba\" that foster knowledge sharing and further gain competitive advantage of the corporation effectively. We analyzed the interrelation among approaches for sharing vision, supporting vital individuals, designing dynamic \"ba, \" connecting people, and promoting change to model these important factors for implementing knowledge strategies. This model shows the necessity of choosing a different approach to design \"ba, including the design of IT, based on the knowledge strategy.","PeriodicalId":215129,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Our approach allows generic group definition. In contrast to identity-based group definition we use a role-based approach, allowing exceptions due to changes of identities and locations to be handled. Our solution relies on open generic groups and has two advantages. On one hand, it allows dynamic sessions to be managed, allowing evolution of the supported activities. On the other, it allows an invitation mechanism to be implemented as in traditional planning-based session management systems.","PeriodicalId":215129,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. We focus on a content delivery system for easily transmitting and browsing a large-scale of document image database such as newspapers, magazines, and in-house documents. We discuss the problems that remain for stream data transmission and describe the schemes of characteristic functions being used in our system. The JPEG2000 format is used to compress the scanned documents' images and moreover, layout analysis is employed to get the structure of each page. Our mechanism enables a web client to browse the such document images with the reality of flipping through a real paper document. Based on the characteristics of JPEG2000 format and the information of each page layout analysis result the web client can select an interested region to show detail even if on a small screen. We present a prototype of the implementation system and realize the high-speed document browsing in mobile web environment.","PeriodicalId":215129,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Since leaders (in terms of evacuations) are present in many real-world situations, the validity of evacuation simulations can be increased through their introduction. We assess the results of a real-world evacuation experiment to develop more realistic scenarios for simulation. The simulations produced by the improved scenarios are found to closely mimic the experimental results. This work shows that scenario-based agent systems such as FlatWalk and FreeWalk offer excellent promise in simulating evacuations more realistically.","PeriodicalId":215129,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. POC is a notion of a community broadcasting system that allows community members to exchange opinions. We report design issues of POC, and community management and analysis issues in the field-test which about 450 households attended. In the design discussion, we describe details of data structure, architecture, and protocols of POC. In the management and analysis discussion, we describe engineering and human effort to prepare log analysis tools, initial contents, and regulations.","PeriodicalId":215129,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. Though there is a theoretical technique to analyze teletraffic characteristics of the system, this technique assumes that nodes never move. So, to analyze the teletraffic characteristics of this system considering mobility, computer simulation is usually used. This paper proposes a technique to theoretically analyze the call arrival rate, the mean holding time and the offered traffic in the new cellular system considering mobility. This paper assumes that the system consists of a single cell, terminals move along a single route and some channels are reserved for terminal-to-terminal communications.","PeriodicalId":215129,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings. The focus is on the developed conceptual model and system for creation and collaborative use of personalised learning knowledge maps. The developed prototype combines semantic text analysis with machine learning and interfaces for visualising relationships and creating new knowledge structures. Application scenarios include automatic generation of personalised knowledge portals, collaborative semantic exploration of complex information spaces and construction of shared ontology networks. The real-world testbed and context of development is the Internet platform netzspannung.org that aims at establishing a knowledge portal connecting digital art, culture and information technology.","PeriodicalId":215129,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings.
