Clinical scores of affected eyes were statistically significantly lower in the treated group than in a control group of 10 untreated rabbits. All cultures of corneal scrapings in the treated eyes were negative on the 15th day after the inoculation, whilst three positive cultures were still obtained on the 21st day in the control animals. Histopathological examination of eyes from treated and untreated rabbits showed great differences in the intensity of inflammatory changes in the two groups.","PeriodicalId":21469,"journal":{"name":"Sabouraudia","volume":"245 1","pages":"323-30"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1984-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85163265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This infection followed intramuscular injection injury of the right gluteal region. Oral KI cured the condition completely in 6 months. Intramuscular implantation of B. haptosporus by the injection needle is the probable mode of infection in this case. Specific IgA and IgG were detected in the serum and secretions of all 222 women. There was no significant difference between the mean levels of specific IgA or IgG in secretions from women with candidosis and those of uninfected women. Neither was there a significant difference between mean levels of specific IgA or IgG when women using oral contraception were compared with others who were not. There was a significant correlation between the levels of IgA and IgG in serum and secretions from women with candidosis and from uninfected women. Blastospore and hyphal forms of C. albicans were seen in vaginal smears from 29 of the 64 women with culture-proven candidosis: in nine, both IgA- and IgG-coated C. albicans cells were recovered from the genital tract; in a tenth, IgG-coated cells were found.","PeriodicalId":21469,"journal":{"name":"Sabouraudia","volume":"147 2","pages":"265-71"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1984-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"91466197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cladophialophora ajelloi was found to be antigenically identical to Cladosporium carrionii. All human and cat isolates of C. bantianum and C. trichoides were found to share the same antigens. Although cross-reactions were observed among the four species of Cladosporium: C. carrionii, C. bantianum, c. herbarum, and C. cladosporioides they were identified and differentiated specifically with four monospecific factor sera obtained through absorption procedures. Seventy nine per cent of the C. albicans isolates were phospholipase producers whereas none of the C. tropicalis, C. glabrata or C. parapsilosis isolates produced the enzyme. The degree of phospholipase activity (Pz value) of individual isolates was remarkably constant despite the large variation in activity among different isolates. Experiments with 10 phospholipase positive C. albicans isolates indicate that phospholipase production in vitro is limited to a narrow pH range (c. 3.6-4.7) and is suppressed by increasing concentrations of sucrose and galactose in the media (r = 0.9). Hence, candidal phospholipases seem to play a complex role in the aetiopathology of human candidoses.","PeriodicalId":21469,"journal":{"name":"Sabouraudia","volume":"8 3 1","pages":"201-7"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1984-05-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78269732","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All isolates of C. carrionii and Cph. ajelloi hydrolyzed urea in 7 days, but failed to liquefy gelatin. The decomposition of casein, xanthine, hypoxanthine, and tyrosine was found to be of no diagnostic value because of the variable results given by the isolates of C. carrionii. None of the C. bantianum isolates or commonly encountered saprophytic species of Cladosporium, such as C. cladosporioides and C. herbarum, showed the ability to form phialides on any of the media tested. Because of the identical nature of the two synanamorphs of Cph. ajelloi, namely the Cladosporium-type and the Phialophora-type, with those of C. carionii, Cph. ajelloi is considered to be a later synonym of C. carrionii.
