Prosthetic misalignment can lead to severe consequences for the patient, such as gait instability and increased load on the residual limb. The fitting and alignment of the prosthetic system is a highly subjective procedure that relies mainly on the professional experience of the prosthetist. This study aims to design a prototype of a low-cost alignment device for lower transfemoral prosthesis to be used temporarily during the prosthesis static alignment. The conceptual design methodology was implemented. The device was modeled in SolidWorks, and the mechanical resistance of the device was determined in a finite element analysis in Ansys. Among the tested materials, CarbonFil exhibited the best behavior showing promising results for a 3D printed alignment device prototype. The viability of this device’s massive production should be considered to further reduce its cost and be implemented in a larger number of prosthetic centers worldwide.","PeriodicalId":21428,"journal":{"name":"Revista Facultad De Ingenieria-universidad De Antioquia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"73368038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During excavations, surface displacements frequently occur that may be inadmissible for previously constructed elements of the urban environment, threatening the sustainability of already consolidated sectors. In this article, we present an approximation to the estimation of the geotechnical hazard by deep excavations in soft lacustrine soils of Bogotá, DC, using parametric numerical simulations that sought to establish the probability of occurrence of base bottom heave, and the estimation of surface displacements for variable excavation geometries. A database was consolidated from 85 projects found in geotechnical zones having soft soils in the city. From this base, statistically representative values of shear strength and stiffness were determined, and a statistically representative geotechnical profile of the lacustrine clays was prepared for parametric analyzes. The hazard estimation was developed in three stages: construction of the geotechnical model, approach of hazard scenarios and 1 Ph. D. In this study, the dynamics of aerobic and anaerobic processes as well as the generation of greenhouse gases in the degradation of organic matter, present in a tropical reservoir, were compared. Batch reactors and plant material extracted from the protection strip were used. Likewise, the behavior of the variation of the COD, physicochemical parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, redox potential, and conductivity were evaluated, and the kinetic constants that represent the behavior of organic matter were defined. The results showed that the degradation of the organic material leads to the generation of GHG, however, when using water plus vegetal material, the GHG increased considerably after a time. This process is due to the fact that the plant material suffers the breakdown of its polymer chains and so it degrades more quickly, which increases 1 Universidad Industrial de Santander (Bucaramanga-Santander, Colombia). A possible cause is that usually supply chain optimization models are deterministic and linear or mixed-integer linear, while forecasting methods and inventory control systems are stochastic and non-linear. It is clear, however, that inventory costs might have a significant impact on optimal supply chain configuration and on distribution systems expansion or contraction. This article presents a practical strategy that considers an item-by-item inventory control system by means of a Monte Carlo simulation model as a starting point to include inventory holding costs in a supply chain optimization model. Three strategies to include inventory costs in the objective function were analyzed: The Square Root Law (SRL), the potential functions that relate average inventory with warehouse throughput, and the estimation of average inventories by simulation. The results suggest that the SRL should not be used unless unusual assumptions hold and that potential functions are a very good approximation to consider inventory costs for supply chain configuration.","PeriodicalId":21428,"journal":{"name":"Revista Facultad De Ingenieria-universidad De Antioquia","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":1.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74548003","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
