Methods This study was conducted with 69 patients (Male = 32, Female = 37) diagnosed with lumbar spinal stenosis. The participants’ 25(OH)D levels were measured by radioimmunoassay. In addition, bone metabolic status, including bone mineral density and bone turnover markers, was also evaluated. The Beck Depression Inventory was used to determine the depression statuses of the patients, while the McGill Melzack Pain Questionnaire was administered to measure pain intensity. The results were evaluated at a significance level of p<0.05. Results Vitamin D deficiency (<20 ng/mL) was found in 76.8% of the patients. Binary logistic regression analysis showed a significantly higher frequency of vitamin D deficiency in patients who: 1) had higher body mass indexes (OR 3.197, 95% CI 1.549-6.599); 2) fared higher in Beck’s depression score (OR 1.817, 95% CI 1.027–3.217); and 3) were female rather than male (OR 1.700, 95% CI 0.931-3.224) (p<0.05). Conclusion In this study, vitamin D deficiency was prevalent in lumbar spinal stenosis patients. In addition, obese, depressed, and female individuals have higher risks of vitamin D deficiency.","PeriodicalId":21305,"journal":{"name":"Revista De Nutricao-brazilian Journal of Nutrition","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67561319","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods This is a population-based cross-sectional study, carried out with 1244 pregnant women between 2018 and 2019. The Diet Quality Index Adapted for Pregnant Women was used to measure the quality of the diet and associate it with risk factors (sociodemographic, obstetric, clinical, behavioral, nutritional status) during the pregnancy. A hierarchical model composed of three blocks was used. A multinomial logistic regression was applied. Results The general average of this Diet Quality Index was 72.75 points, the average of the 1st tercile was 56.06 points, the average of the 2nd tercile was 73.71 points and the average of the 3rd was 88.51 points. The worst diet quality was related to pregnant women with lower education (OR=2.36; 95% CI=1.39-4.01), sedentary women (OR=1.37; 95% CI=1.17-2, 61), those who had a negative self-perception of food (OR=2.00; 95% CI=1.45-2.76) and who had 3 to 5 meals a day (OR=1.83; 95% CI=1.26-2.77), and less than 3 (OR=2.64; 95% CI=1.13-6.18). Methods Cross-sectional study, participants between 5 and 19 years were included. A standardized questionnaire assessed socioeconomic variables. The outcome variables were z-score of Body Mass Index and bioimpedance parameters (skeletal muscle mass, fat-free mass, and fat percentage) and predictor variables (age, sex, race, place of residence, father’s education, birth weight and breastfeeding) were analyzed using the quantile regression model and data from the 50th percentile are presented. The tests were bidirectional and the differences were considered significant with p<0.05. Results Among the 529 participants included, 284 (53.6%) were female and the mean age was 11.41±3.9 years. The Body Mass Index z-score was the only outcome that did not show differences between sexes (p=0.158). In the crude model, lower family income was associated with lower skeletal muscle mass (Difference=-7.70; 95% CI -9.32 to -5.89), p<0.001), lower fat-free mass (Difference= -13.40; 95% CI -16.40 to -10.39, p<0.001) and the lowest percentage of fat was associated with lower family income (Difference= -5.01, 95% CI -9.91 to -0.11, p=0.027). The z-score of BMI was not associated with family income. Methods We performed a cross-sectional study that included 169 active community-dwelling elderly women. The phase angle was determined using tetrapolar bioelectrical impedance, and sarcopenia was diagnosed based on skeletal muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical performance using bioelectrical impedance analysis, a handheld dynamometer, and the gait speed test, respectively. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to investigate the role of the phase angle as a predictor of sarcopenia. Results The prevalence of sarcopenia was 12.4%. The median phase angle was 5.30°; elderly women with sarcopenia had lower phase angles than those without sarcopenia (p=0.006). The phase angle cutoff for the detection of sarcopenia was ?5.15°, with an area under the curve of 0.685, sensitivity 81.0%, specificity 60.8%, and accuracy 63.31%. Elderly women with a low phase angle show a high risk of presenting with reduced muscle mass. Methods Food intake data from the 2008-2009 and 2017-2018 surveys were used to highlight the differences in the frequencies of foods mentioned, the number of the measurement units mentioned, and the frequency of measurements that were incompatible with the reported food and were exchanged by the most mentioned measurement (standard measurement), as well as to describe the updates performed in the database between edits. Results The elaboration of the 2017-2018 referenced measurement table was based on the 2008-2009 table, which was revised and updated. In the 2008-2009 survey, 9980 household measurements were mentioned for 1970 types of food and preparations, while in 2017-2018 there were 11050 and 2534, respectively. While in 2008-2009, 2.8% of citations were replaced by the standard measurement, in 2017-2018, only 0.7% of food items needed to be replaced. Conclusion The procedures used to estimate the amount of food intake between the surveys allowed updating the table of household measurements and minimizing errors in the estimate of this amount, with a reduction in measurement units that were inconsistent or incompatible with the aforementioned foods.","PeriodicalId":21305,"journal":{"name":"Revista De Nutricao-brazilian Journal of Nutrition","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67560537","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods A study of cross-sectional panels with secondary data (Exame Nacional de Desempenho dos Estudantes 2004, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019) of 174 graduating students was carried out. Academic performance was classified into two groups, one with a score below the median and another above the median. The differences in median scores according to the variables were tested using the Mann-Whitney, Kruskal-Wallis, or non-parametric trend analysis. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association of the score variable with the other variables. The analyses were carried out using the Stata version 13.0 program, using a value of p<0.05 for the statistical decision. Results It was observed that the profile of graduating students was composed mainly of female individuals (92.5%), self-declared white (90.8%), and mostly coming from private schools (65.8%). Those who had some type of income obtained a higher score in Exame Nacional de Desempenho dos Estudantes compared to those who did not have an income (61.8 vs. 57.4, respectively, p=0.010), and the curricular change seems to be the main variable in the chances of obtaining a score above the median of the course (OR: 1.92, p=0.046). Conclusion Financial status and curriculum change were associated with the academic performance of the assessed students. Methods This was an exploratory-analytical study of family health units and the mixed basic care units of Cubatão (n=17) and Guarujá (n=14). For this purpose, seven domains of the Nutritional Attention Assessment Instrument in Primary Health Care were used. Descriptive analysis and the Mann-Whitney and Pearson’s chi-square tests were performed. Results In the comparison between the municipalities, the best scores were obtained in Guarujá. Statistically significant differences were found for the following indicators: support for nutritional attention actions: infrastructure and permanent education (<0.001); food and nutritional surveillance (<0.001); nutritional attention focused on prenatal care (<0.001); and nutritional attention focused on postpartum care and breastfeeding (0.012). Nutritional attention actions for mother-infant groups were more frequent in the city of Guarujá, which compared with Cubatão, achieved better scores for the nutritional attention evaluation indicators. Conclusion The municipality of Guarujá had better indicators of infrastructure and permanent education, food and nutrition surveillance, and puerperal and breastfeeding nutritional care. However, weaknesses persist in the organization of nutritional care in the two cities studied, especially regarding the work process.","PeriodicalId":21305,"journal":{"name":"Revista De Nutricao-brazilian Journal of Nutrition","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67560846","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods This cross-sectional study approached adult hospital patients subjected to regular or therapeutic diets. The actual food intake percentage was obtained by the ratio between the actual food intake and the amount of food served x 100. Patients had to complete a food chart including 9 circles representing plates of food in percentages (increasing scale of 12.5%) to represent their food intake at lunch and/or dinner. The Bland-Altman method assessed the agreement between the actual and the estimated values. The associations between variables (age, sex, hospitalization day, diet prescription, amount of food served and actual food intake percentage) and the accuracy of the food intake estimation (adequate ±10%, overestimated and underestimated) were evaluated through univariate multinomial logistic regression. Results Ninety-six patients were evaluated (51.0% male; 44.0±15.8 years of age). The Bland-Altman analysis showed good agreement between the actual and the estimated food intake. The actual food intake percentage was the only variable associated with the accuracy of the food intake estimation. Conclusion Most patients (~70%) adequately estimated their food intake using the 9-point food chart tested. Furthermore, the only factor linked to the accuracy of the food intake estimation was the actual food-intake percentage. These findings provide preliminary support for the usefulness of this instrument. However, it must be tested in a representative sample of hospitalized patients.","PeriodicalId":21305,"journal":{"name":"Revista De Nutricao-brazilian Journal of Nutrition","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.8,"publicationDate":"2022-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"67560981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"医学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: Cross-sectional study with 140 parents (father and mother) and their children (2-6 year-old). Parental feeding practices were assessed using the Comprehensive Feeding Practices Questionnaire. Children’s body weight and height were measured, and body mass index z-score per age was calculated. Parental anthropometric measurements (body weight and height) were obtained by self-report, and body mass index was calculated. The consumption of ultra-processed foods was assessed through the Child Food Frequency Questionnaire and the daily intake score was calculated. Multivariable linear regression analyses were performed to investigate the association between parental feeding practices and the consumption of ultra-processed foods. Results: Children’s ultra-processed food consumption was negatively associated with the “Monitoring” parental feeding practices. On the other hand, “Emotion Regulation” and “Health restriction” parental feeding practices were positively associated with the ultra-processed food consumption score.
