To decrease that effect, recycled rubber particles and paraffin oil are proposed to blend epoxy. The role of oil is to increase the viscoelastic property of the proposed composites. Different sizes of recycled rubber particles were used as filling material, while oil content was 5.0 and 10.0 wt. %. The tested composites slid against rubber surface, where coefficient of friction was determined. The experiments revealed that composites filled by oil showed slight decrease in friction values compared to composites free of oil. As the oil content increased, friction decreased. When the rubber content increased, friction significantly increased. The recommended rubber particle size was ranging between 1.0 to 2.0 mm that caused the highest friction values. As for composites filled by oil, further increase in rubber particle size was accompanied by friction increase. It was observed that values of friction coefficient were much higher than the recommended values for safe floor materials. The difference in the friction values observed for unfilled and filled composites oil was slight. Based on that, the proposed composites can be used in different applications, where addition of oil into epoxy matrix is intended to decrease the abrasion of the proposed composites.","PeriodicalId":212154,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Tribology","volume":"416 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122804527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To ensure that, it is essential to determine the friction coefficient. In the present work, friction coefficient of the gripper surface is investigated. Rubber specimens of different hardness and roughness were tested as surface coating of the gripper. The tested rubber slid against the surface of polyester textiles. Experiments revealed that the friction coefficient decreased as the load increased. Increasing surface hardness of the rubber caused significant increase in friction coefficient. It was found that friction coefficient depends on the type of the textile specimens. Finally, friction coefficient significantly increases up to maximum then slightly decreases with increasing surface roughness. This observation recommends more investigations to select properly the rubber materials for coating gripper.","PeriodicalId":212154,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Tribology","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116547499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

All of mineral oils have harmful effect on human beings, for that; environmental issues during machining have led to looking for safe and efficient cutting fluids. The objective of this work is to investigate the effect of vegetable oils based emulsion (VOBE) on the surface roughness during turning process of aluminum 6061 alloy in comparison with traditional cutting fluids mineral oils based emulsion (MOBE), that known commercially as (ecool mk-3). Corn, olive and coconut oils were proposed as vegetable oils based emulsion for lubrication/cooling during turning process under different conditions of cutting speed and feed as well as the concentration of oil in lubricating emulsion. Digital Surface Roughness Tester (TR-Y-SRT-6210S) was used for surface roughness (Ra) measurements of the machined aluminum bars. The results show good performance for vegetable based emulsion oils in turning process as lubricant medium compared to dry cutting or using traditional lubricants based on mineral oils. Coconut oil based emulsion shows significant effect on reduction of surface roughness of machined parts as well as good healthy impact.","PeriodicalId":212154,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Tribology","volume":"181 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132930200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, traumatic loading such as that experienced in automotive crash and other scenarios can lead to ligament damage and result in neck injury. The objective of the present study is to investigate the wear behavior of cervical fusion plates fabricated from polyethylene reinforced by kevlar and carbon fibers as alternative of anterior cervical disk fusion arthroplasty. Cervical artificial plates made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) reinforced by carbon fibers (CF) and kevlar fibers (KF) were tested using reciprocating wear machine. It was found that the tested composites free of reinforcing fibers showed relatively higher wear values compared to composites reinforced by CF or KF. As the volume content of the tested fibers increased, wear decreased. Besides, composites reinforced by KF offered lower wear values than that caused by composites reinforced by CF. It seems that improvement in wear may be attributed to the strengthening effect of the tested fibers, where they withstand the shear and tensile stresses inside the matrix of the composites.","PeriodicalId":212154,"journal":{"name":"Journal of the Egyptian Society of Tribology","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133918123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
