At the wireless edge of these networks, most of the contributions in this area are related to cellular technologies leaving behind WiFi networks. In this work, we present a resource allocation mechanism based on airtime assignment to achieve infrastructure sharing and slicing in WiFi Access Points. The approach is simple and has the potential to be straightforwardly used within scenarios of wireless access infrastructure sharing.","PeriodicalId":211611,"journal":{"name":"2017 13th International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM)","volume":"145 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114424998","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The demand for mobility management, the technology to keep communication even when a communicating mobile node moves, is growing due to it. We proposed a SDN based mobility management scheme in our prior work to deal with inter-domain handovers, but its routing algorithm only considers the number of domains to go through and the number of flow entries to install. This prevents us from selecting suitable routes. In this paper, we show the design of a new routing mechanism that considers various parameters. This mechanism suppresses costs for changing route to carry out handover smoothly and avoids lengthy routes.","PeriodicalId":211611,"journal":{"name":"2017 13th International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM)","volume":"153 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116696874","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The Software-Defined Networking (SDN) simplifies the network design and operation, and offers new opportunities (programmability, flexibility, dy-namicity, and standardization) to manage the network. Despite this, the access control management remains a challenge, once managing security policies involves dealing with a large set of access control rules, detecting conflicting policies, defining priorities, delegating rights, and reacting against network state changes and events. This work presents the HACFlow, a novel, autonomic, and policy-based framework for access control management in OpenFlow networks. HACFlow aims to simplify and automate the network management allowing network operators to govern rights of network entities by defining dynamic, fine-grained, and high-level access control policies. We analyzed the performance of HACFlow and compared it against related approaches.","PeriodicalId":211611,"journal":{"name":"2017 13th International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121930148","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The unavailability of these applications may lead to severe consequences that go beyond the financial losses, reaching the cloud provider reputation too. However, to maintain high availability in a cloud data center is a difficult task due to its complexity. The power subsystem is crucial for the entire operation of the data center because it supplies power for all other subsystems, including IT components and cooling equipment. Some studies have already proposed models to evaluate the availability of the power subsystem, but none of them are based on standard redundancy models. Standards guide cloud providers regarding availability, points of failure, and watts per square foot based on components' redundancy. This paper proposes RBD and Petri Net models based on the TIA-942 standard to estimate the availability of the data center power subsystem and analyze how failures on power subsystem impact the availability of critical applications. These models are important to resource planning and decision making by the cloud providers, because they may identify which components they ought to invest in order to improve the availability level.","PeriodicalId":211611,"journal":{"name":"2017 13th International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122387881","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Indeed, the main mobile apps platforms derive a significant part of their brand value and pricing power from their reputation to have most innovative apps coming to them. Having witnessed that the same steady stream of developer-driven innovation is already emerging in IoT, demand for IoT-based services will be driven by this growing innovative community of IoT developers. In order to make it possible, main players should focus on building platforms that support third party applications instead of developing applications for their own devices. As a way to materialize the above idea, we propose a business model for IoT-based services where a platform creates a multisided market. The business model comprises a platform that serves as an intermediary between human users, app developers and Wireless Sensor Networks, so that the users use the apps, and the apps process the data supplied by the sensor networks. The platform, acting as a monopolist, posts a fee for each of the three sides so as to maximize its profit. We conduct an analysis of the profit maximization problem faced by the platform. We show that the relative strength of the value that advertisers attach to the users determines the platform price structure. All in all, a high valuation is beneficial for all agents (users, platform, developers, and WSNs).","PeriodicalId":211611,"journal":{"name":"2017 13th International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129604403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Their total aggregate energy consumption poses a significant concern to society. The current 3gpp (3rd Generation Partnership Project) LTE/LTE-Advanced standard incorporates an energy saving technique called discontinuous reception (DRX). It is expected that 5G will use an evolved variant of this scheme. In general, the single selection of DRX parameters per device is non trivial. This paper describes how to improve energy efficiency of mobile devices by selecting DRX based on the traffic profile per device. Our particular approach uses a two phase data-driven strategy which tunes the selection of DRX parameters based on a smart fast energy model. The first phase involves the off-line selection of viable DRX combinations for a particular traffic mix. The second phase involves an on-line selection of DRX from this viable list. The method attempts to guarantee that latency is not worse than a chosen threshold. Alternatively, longer battery life for a device can be traded against increased latency. We built a lab prototype of the system to verify that the technique works and scales on a real LTE system. We also designed a sophisticated traffic generator based on actual user data traces. Complementary method verification has been made by exhaustive off-line simulations on recorded LTE network data. Our approach shows significant device energy savings, which has the aggregated potential over billions of devices to make a real contribution to green, energy efficient networks.","PeriodicalId":211611,"journal":{"name":"2017 13th International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM)","volume":"438 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121459836","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualisation (NFV) are two of the key enabling technologies, considered in these efforts. The need for a flexible, high performant and efficient architecture is well established. Network slicing, which combines SDN and NFV, can contribute to such an architecture. It allows the parallel deployment of differing network stacks on top of any physical infrastructure. SDN's separation of control and data plane components allows for flexible deployments. How can SDN's flexibility be leveraged in a sliced, 5G network infrastructure? There needs to be an efficient way to integrate SDN into 5G networks. In this paper, we posit a way of integration, which allows decoupling the data plane components from any particular control plane. This can improve flexibility, utilisation and extensibility. We envision utilising an SDN switch implementation as the User Plane Function (UPF), and introducing an SDN controller between Session Management Function (SMF) and UPF, to effectively decouple the two. Based on this decoupling, control and data plane components can be deployed in separatelyand new slice orchestration opportunities can be developed. Furthermore, we can leverage deep data plane programmability, to enhance the system in terms of function and flexibility.","PeriodicalId":211611,"journal":{"name":"2017 13th International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114812059","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While radio access technologies become more flexible in terms of usable spectrum, authorization regimes need to be rethought. Regulators thus will be expected to set the stage for more flexible spectrum usage scenarios in combination with a heterogeneous set of applications and services. In contrast to the current command and control approach, spectrum management would encompass the definition of abstract access and usage rules applicable to a variety of applications. Consequently, impact assessment of regulatory measures in regimes with increased flexibility and heterogeneity requires detailed ex-ante modelling with a strong focus on dynamic components. In this paper, it is argued that neither technical bottom-up nor economical top-down modeling on its own serves the goal to capture the dynamics of a flexible environment to a sufficient degree. To fill the gap, a combined simulation framework is proposed to model authorization procedures in a nationwide spectrum management ecosystem based on multiple local scenarios.","PeriodicalId":211611,"journal":{"name":"2017 13th International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM)","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116066265","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cloud-RAN and densely deployed small cells are two of the tools at disposal of Mobile Network Operators to cope with such challenges. In order to mitigate the fronthaul requirements imposed by the Cloud-RAN architecture, several functional splits, each characterized by a different demarcation point between the centralized and the distributed units, have emerged. However, the selection of the appropriate centralization level (i.e., the functional split) still remains a challenging task, since a number of parameters have to be considered in order to make such a decision. In this paper, a virtual network embedding (VNE) algorithm is proposed to flexibly select the appropriate functional split. The VNE is formulated as an Integer Linear Programming problem whose objective is to minimize the intercell interference and the fronthaul bandwidth utilization by dynamically selecting the appropriate functional split. Finally, a scalable VNE heuristic is also proposed.","PeriodicalId":211611,"journal":{"name":"2017 13th International Conference on Network and Service Management (CNSM)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125524162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
