However, most of the empirical research that investigates the theoretical aspects of aggressive manhood, hegemonic masculinity, or gender performativity is centred on western societies. The historical and cultural contexts of intimate partner violence in South Asia have not been adequately explored in attempts to contextualize these gender norms and masculine characteristics. Although significant effort has been made in this field of interest, there is a dearth of literature concerning the conceptions of hegemonic masculinity, aggressive manhood, and gender performance to emerging and a typical patterns of violence against women. Thus, the primary objective of this research is to narrow the gap by demonstrating how the development of hegemonic masculinity and violent manhood is related to contemporary intimate partner violence in Bangladesh, specifically by examining the influence of violent manhood in intimate relationships. To conduct this research, a qualitative study has been used based on secondary data analysis that includes the theoretical analysis of Buttler, Connell, Sumerau, and other scholars. The findings of this research indicate that physical violence perpetrated by men against their spouses reinforces a gender system and culture that justifies husbands’ power over their wives. Therefore, masculinity is not a fixed entity embedded just in the body or personality traits of individuals. Rather, hegemonic masculinities are configurations of practice that are accomplished in social activities due to structural, cultural, and other forces which might differ according to the gender relations in a particular social setting.","PeriodicalId":211559,"journal":{"name":"Global Advances in Victimology and Psychological Studies","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126102152","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It asserts that while in policy, Government bears the primary responsibility for the protection and assistance of all IDPs irrespective of the cause of displacement, in practice, humanitarian response plans for the protection and assistance of IDPs exclude victims of armed Fulani herdsmen conflicts from assistance. It also found that several proposed federal bills to address the armed Fulani herdsmen-farmer conflicts have focused on securing land from victimised farming communities to establish settlements for the Fulani herders. However, none of the bills has prohibited arbitrary displacement; return, resettlement or rehabilitation of persons displaced by the armed Fulani herdsmen. The paper concludes that the exclusion of victims of the armed Fulani herdsmen conflict from national humanitarian response plan is a strategy of Government that is unwilling to recognise and address the armed Fulani herdsmen as a national security challenge. It recommends that the Nigerian Government holistically addresses internal displacement and provide equal protection and assistance to all victims of displacement as stipulated by the Nigerian national policy on internal displacement.","PeriodicalId":211559,"journal":{"name":"Global Advances in Victimology and Psychological Studies","volume":"2796 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127440831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Furthermore, it is often suggested that the aftershock of apartheid has forced many individuals to the periphery of society. The homeless form part of those burdened by the past and as a result are often confronted by adversity. Existing literature as well as various victimological perspectives indicate that the homeless are prone to high rates of violence and victimisation. As a result of their exposure and high levels of vulnerability, the homeless often find themselves in unfavourable conditions, often typified by inherently dangerous people, places and situations. A study exploring the experiences of victimisation of the homeless - guided by a qualitative methodological approach - identified various victimogenic risk factors such as childhood adversity, a devalued social status, the use/abuse of alcohol and narcotics, and conditions associated with psychological and physical well-being, which could potentially prove useful in explaining the victimisation vulnerability of members of this vulnerable population. It is therefore important to assess these factors, to generate a better understanding of this complex phenomenon, thereby increasing the level of sensitivity around the plight of the homeless victim – which will in turn not only acknowledge their role as victims but also better inform and improve the victim assistance measures created and offered.","PeriodicalId":211559,"journal":{"name":"Global Advances in Victimology and Psychological Studies","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114738752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After 2011 when the “Victim package” was adopted by the European Commission the victim of crime become a subject of privileged attention for the European penal policy. Important acts as Directive 2011/99/EU of the European Parliament and the Council on the European Protection Order, Directive 2012/29/EU of the European Parliament establishing the minimum standards on the rights, support and protection of victims of crime, the EU Strategy on victims' rights 2020-2025 have been approved and are in a process of implementation. These instruments, as well as some fundamental Council of Europe and United Nations documents are under scrutiny. The issue of wider introduction of restorative justice is raised as an indisputable instrument in favor of the victims of crime. The unsolved problems are also identified. The new challenges to be met in order to make the environment more friendly for victims are indicated and some decisions are offered.","PeriodicalId":211559,"journal":{"name":"Global Advances in Victimology and Psychological Studies","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125355231","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since then, that community has identified the reduction of crime and violence as integral to achieving the sustainable development goals. Contrary, factors associated with globalisation and the pandemic have led to increases in certain crimes, thus increases in criminal victimisation. Preventing crime is necessary to prevent victimisation. Prioritising people’s safety, so they do not become victims, is crucial, and given should be a greater priority internationally and domestically. Drawing on findings from crime prevention programmes designed to prevent victimisation, the author argues that victim assistance must be a key element of preventive activities. However, while crime prevention and preventing victimisation, on the one hand, are ‘same, same’, on the other hand, they are ‘different’.","PeriodicalId":211559,"journal":{"name":"Global Advances in Victimology and Psychological Studies","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127853895","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article questions the effectiveness of such punitive measures in dealing with sexual violence. While, the legislative reforms offer tougher sentencing, they place less emphasis on victims’ rights and also tend to ignore the social context in which sexual violence occurs. The present paper offers the critique of punitive populism of the legislation through four discourses: Rape as ‘loss of honour’, Rapists as a ‘monster’ syndrome, Perspectives of victimsurvivors and Retributive justice and marginalised identities. By exploring victim-survivors’ participation, restorative and transformational practices and acknowledging the larger socio-cultural context in which sexual violence takes place, this article sheds light on a range of strategies to address sexual violence from the perspectives of victims.","PeriodicalId":211559,"journal":{"name":"Global Advances in Victimology and Psychological Studies","volume":"112 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124263574","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
