The main idea of the 2-stages is to move, in the first stage (fast), the centers of the clusters closer to their final locations. This will be done by using a small part of the data to achieve faster calculation. The next stage (slow) stage will start from the centers found during the first stage (fast). Different initial locations of the clusters have been used while testing the algorithms here. With bigger datasets, it is shown that the 2-stage clustering method achieves better speed-up.","PeriodicalId":211450,"journal":{"name":"2011 10th International Workshop on Electronics, Control, Measurement and Signals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126002391","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A significant improvement in the performance is expected if the transmitting and receiving sfibers are configured in inclined feature instead of being configured in parallel feature. The linear operating range and sensor sensitivity depend on the angle between transmitting and receiving fibers, core and fiber radius, and inter-fiber spacing. Moreover, the intensity function plays an important role in designing multimode optical fiber sensor, especially, in designing two-optical-fiber intensity-modulated sensor. As being a design parameter of the sensor, it is essential in determining the sensor sensitivity due to the reflected power changes. The mathematical model of the intensity function applicable to inclined geometrical configurations is developed and simulated responses are studied. Experimental validation of the mathematical model is performed using carefully designed experiments. The simulated responses and the experiment results are compared with the responses of another mathematical model which was developed by Gang He.","PeriodicalId":211450,"journal":{"name":"2011 10th International Workshop on Electronics, Control, Measurement and Signals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127681461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The ultimate goal of the project is to transcribe them and to allow the public access to their content. In this paper, we focus on processing of those documents that have been already transcribed (by humans or in another way) and are to be synchronized (time aligned) with the text. We aim at developing a method that is time efficient and at the same time robust enough to incorrect or incomplete transcriptions. The method is based on the combination of two speech recognition techniques. The first one, a word spotting method searches for selected words in the transcription and proposes points where the document can be split into shorter and homogenous segments covered by the text transcription. For them, we utilize a modified forced-alignment procedure to get time stamps for each word in the transcription. The method runs with 0.5 real-time factor and yields 95.5% word alignment precision. So far, it has been used for transcribing and indexing more than 552 hours of archive recordings.","PeriodicalId":211450,"journal":{"name":"2011 10th International Workshop on Electronics, Control, Measurement and Signals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115509965","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If connected in parallel to the piezoelectric plate, the circuit with a negative capacitance has a significant influence on the elastic parameters of the piezoelectric actuator. Such an effect can be profitably used for a vibration and noise suppression, where the piezoelectric element works as an actuator and a sensor at the same time. The major advantages of the piezoelectric fiber composite actuators are their high performance, flexibility, and durability, when compared to the traditional piezoceramic (PZT) actuators. The recently developed MFC actuator provides these advantages and can be used in structural vibration applications. In this study, it is shown that the MFC can be controlled by the circuit with a negative capacitance. Finite Element Method (FEM) approach is used to obtaining frequency spectra of capacitance of MFC actuator and to show the ability to change the effective elastic parameters, when connected to the negative capacitance circuit.","PeriodicalId":211450,"journal":{"name":"2011 10th International Workshop on Electronics, Control, Measurement and Signals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130905098","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Small mechanical deformation and polarization measurements are realized using LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) measuring system. Velocities of ultrasound wave propagation in presence of an external DC electric field are also determined. The orientation of spontaneous polarization can be switched under the action of sufficiently strong electric fields. This causes the nonlinear behaviour of polarization-electric field (D-E), strain-electric field (S-E) and the velocity of ultrasonic waves-electric field (v-E) relationship. Butterfly shape of the responses is observed above the coercive field. The described BNBK79 ceramics is significant candidate for lead-free actuator applications.","PeriodicalId":211450,"journal":{"name":"2011 10th International Workshop on Electronics, Control, Measurement and Signals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125627282","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This actuator is devoted to be used as a left ventricular assist device (LVAD). In order to avoid thrombosis, this actuator includes pump and valve functions. By using a St. Jude Medical mechanical valve inside the tubular mover, a pulsatile flow is created in the descending aorta. A linear model of a basic pattern of the actuator based on a reluctance network is developed. Then, a two dimensions finite element method analysis is performed in order to check the analytically calculated performances. Relying on these both models, specific requirements for the design of this kind of motor are discussed.","PeriodicalId":211450,"journal":{"name":"2011 10th International Workshop on Electronics, Control, Measurement and Signals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124758056","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Broadcast-based test compression techniques can reduce both the test data volume and test application time. Pattern overlapping test compression techniques are proven to be highly effective in the test data volume reduction. This paper presents a new test compression and test application approach that combines both the test pattern overlapping technique and the test pattern broadcasting technique. This paper will illustrate that these new techniques are effective in both the test application time and the test data volume reduction.","PeriodicalId":211450,"journal":{"name":"2011 10th International Workshop on Electronics, Control, Measurement and Signals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130798853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method applies Independent Component Analysis (ICA) in the time-domain, which gives independent components of individual signals that form unknown groups. The need is to recover these groups using a clustering algorithm and a similarity measure, and reconstruct the separated signals from the groups then. In this paper, several novel criteria that are suitable to measure the similarity between audio components are proposed. Next, fuzzy clustering algorithms are applied to group the components, and novel reconstruction approaches relying on proper weighting of components are proposed. The proposed modifications are compared by experiments, and conclusions are drawn.","PeriodicalId":211450,"journal":{"name":"2011 10th International Workshop on Electronics, Control, Measurement and Signals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130129824","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For recommendation systems as well as for a simple usage of a search engine, some information on the similarity between two contents is required in order to identify relevant contents. But the concept of similarity can be interpreted under many points of views. We will present three different and original approaches developed at the IRIT in order to associate a value to the similarity. The first one considers that the similarity consists in a similar temporal evolution of a subset of descriptors. This leads to determine the subset of features which can be used for the evaluation. The second one consists in considering the way events are organized along the temporal dimension. Similar correlations between events are likely to highlight a global similarity between two contents. The last approach consists in involving the end user in the similarity definition. For two different tasks, one may consider that two documents considered as similar for the first one, are not similar anymore for the second one. We propose an interface where the user set the position of small set of documents on the computer screen. The more the contents are similar, the closer they are expected to be one with each other. The system then tries to extract from that configuration rules which could express the similarity nature and then apply them to the whole content set in order to show it on the screen in an organized manner.","PeriodicalId":211450,"journal":{"name":"2011 10th International Workshop on Electronics, Control, Measurement and Signals","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124822907","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
