RFID hardware components are integrated in forklift trucks and goods carriers such as pallets and pallet cages. Information about transport and handling of goods can be stored locally within these goods carriers. New components, which are developed to join RFID functionality with forklift trucks' control devices, are presented. Vehicle sensors and the RFID reader unit are then combined to form a new event-driven approach to integrate forklift trucks as a part of management assistant systems. Forklift trucks are enabled to communicate with these systems by means of a wireless LAN. It is also discussed how vehicle sensors can be displaced by using the RFID reader as a sensor.","PeriodicalId":211095,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125465439","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Biometric technologies are being tested and deployed in a variety of transportation applications at the national, state, and local levels - border crossings, transportation worker credentials, real IDs - biometric-enabled driver's licenses and identification cards, and facility and computer access control. A discussion of the current and planned deployment status for the biometrics technologies is provided. An overview of existing and emerging physical and behavioral biometric technologies is also presented. Single biometric systems are applicable in low to moderate security applications. As security needs increase and terrorists and criminals gain more expertise in biometrics technologies, unimodal systems may not be sufficient. Multibiometric systems fuse together the data and features of unimodal systems and can provide higher levels of security. A well-planned and designed multibiometric system is potentially more accurate than the best unimodal system. An overview of multibiometric systems and their design issues are covered. Also, key evaluation techniques for biometric and multibiometric systems are presented.","PeriodicalId":211095,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126387476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Simulation results for a formulation based on dynamic Bayesian networks illustrate that the belief in vehicle position is influenced by the measured visual features, while the belief in the value of said visual features is in turn influenced by GPS measurements of vehicle position. The weight of these influences, as well as the uncertainty of the resulting state estimates, depends directly upon the rate-of-change of the observed features. This information sharing approach represents a successful integration of these two technologies that leads to more plausible vehicle positioning and visual feature estimation that will be useful for purposes of automated driving and navigation systems.","PeriodicalId":211095,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125203309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The CCWS estimates and communicates vehicle positions, and predicts and processes future trajectories for collision decision making. The feasibility of the system design has been demonstrated in previous work, and this paper focuses on the robustness and reliability of the system by analyzing the error propagation and its impact on detection performance. This paper uses the Kalman filter technique to statistically characterize the trajectory prediction error, incorporates communication-induced error as part of the prediction error, and then determines the probability of conflicts and the quality of detection performance. Results with experimental data are presented to demonstrate the reliability of the system.","PeriodicalId":211095,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125595029","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, the overtaking problem is solved by considering the destination seeking goal and collision avoidance goal simultaneously. The host vehicle uses Double-action Q-Learning for collision avoidance and Q-learning for destination seeking by learning to react with different motions carried out by a leading vehicle. Simulations show that the proposed method performs well disregarding whether the vehicle to be overtaken holds a steady or un-steady course. Given the promising results, better navigation is expected if additional goals such as lane following is introduced in the multiple-goal framework.","PeriodicalId":211095,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133739201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, current O-D estimations rely on estimated directional traffic counts at intersections, which obviously diminish reliability in the table. A video-based vehicle tracking system that utilizes wide view-angle lenses has been studied [26] to provide accurate direction traffic counts. The system expands the area covered by a single camera and uses a particle filtering method to handle environmental changes as well as geometric distortion caused by those lenses. This paper shows tracking capability of the system and also shows how to incorporate the directional traffic counts in the O-D estimation.","PeriodicalId":211095,"journal":{"name":"2007 IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2007-10-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116667121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
