In today's school, characterized by an unholy alliance between neo-liberal forces and constructivism, this requirement will most likely lead to a state in which knowledge is perceived as a form of social construction in a particular setting. This article raises several serious objections to such an approach, which reduces knowledge to knowing, which limits the scope for progression in the subject. This paper argues for a social and realistic alternative, formulated as knowledge building as theory development. Knowledge building as theory development exceeds the subjective doxa by linking knowledge with development of ideas and theories as the essential part of the students' creation of knowledge. Knowledge building as theory development opens up for students to build knowledge with an epistemic dimension, which is a prerequisite for in-depth learning in the school's subjects.","PeriodicalId":211063,"journal":{"name":"Cognitive Science – New Media – Education","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-12-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127498801","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sometimes, we have a serious feeling that the speed of development of the new technologies is much faster than adjusting of the media education to it. A lot of reasons are connected with that: way of communicating (how to communicate interaction of media education with new technologies) with pupils and/or students (knowledge and the skills of the youngsters and/or youth about new technologies are sometimes higher and more comprehensive than the knowledge and the skills of the teachers and professors); media (il)literacy; lack of understandings from the educational authorities (or lack of their education about it as well) about the importance of linking media education and new technologies in the post-modern world; lack of creativity by the teachers in regards adequate presentation of the importance of connecting and interacting of media education with new technologies and vice versa, although it is also connected with the motivation connected with a position of the teachers within the society – underlining the social position of the teachers and/or professors and as well the ethical issues connected with the ways of the modules of communication; lack of innovations related to the way of linking of media education with new technologies – social media as a model of deliberative democracy within the process of media education and a lack of knowledge about the advertising the connection between media education and new technologies – the art of persuasion. Discussion groups serve an essential role and will be defined and their impact addressed as an active learning strategy with multilayered effects. Connecting learners in an online teaching environment is essential and integration of welldesigned discussions will facilitate student learning. In the online classroom, critical thinking skills and actively engaged learners are tantamount to student success. The development of asynchronous discussions to enhance learning and critical thinking will be discussed along with reflection and activities to increase student engagement and learning.","PeriodicalId":211063,"journal":{"name":"Cognitive Science – New Media – Education","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121266613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A chosen professional career path influences all areas of human life such as creation of close relations and family, social status, leisure, improvement, mobility, etc. When members of Generation Y who are characteristic of different values and behaviours start to dominate in the labour market over the preceding Generation X, the conflict of generation that arises complicates labour relations. Thus, the aim of this study is to define what are the characteristics of career-related choices of Generation Y and Generation X? How are characteristics of these choices related to the properties of each generation as highlighted in the generational theory as well as the historical and cultural contexts that have formed them? The following methods of research data collection where used: analysis of scientific literature and interview. The data obtained was analysed using qualitative content analysis. It was determined that there were obvious differences between characteristics of educational career-related choices of members of Generation X and Generation Y. Comparing career-related choices between Generation X and Generation Y, it was revealed that the historical and cultural contexts had great influence on career-related choices of both generations.","PeriodicalId":211063,"journal":{"name":"Cognitive Science – New Media – Education","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131525142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Teachers have used these experiences to gain both knowledge and skills in conducting classes using IT facilities, especially those that are based on Internet communication. They therefore joined the trend that enriches the teaching methodology with more or less formalized e-learning. The attitudes of academic teachers towards e-learning during these years have changed and reflected various doubts associated with teaching via Internet. In this way, as mature, media literate, well-informed citizens they will be able to make their own decisions about the democratic electoral process. However, adolescents, young people and adults as well as the oldest citizens often need to be media-literate, especially due to the fact that in the age of new media and new technologies, the knowledge that we possess becomes obsolete very quickly and it is certainly necessary to participate in lifelong learning and within the media literacy of all generations of citizens. Media literacy has dual meaning – as an concept is defined as ability of the approach, analyses, evaluation and transmission of the messages through the media while the essential focus of media literacy is to overmaster with critic and creative skills, knowledge that are of help to connect complex ideas, constantly questioning manifestations, attempt to recognize answers that will satisfy congenital curiosity of any of us, but also DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.12775/CSNME.2018.001 Received: May, 2018 / Accepted: a) June 27, 2018; b) June 30, 2018 Sabahudin Hadžialić 10 to identify individual, and even wider, social deceits.
