Methods: The study adopted quasi-experimental design involving non-equivalent pre-test, post-test, control and experimental groups. Two research questions were raised and two hypotheses were tested. The study population comprised of 450 SS1-3 students, with a sample size of 120 SS1 students (50 males/70 females) selected from two schools in the Sapele Education Zone of Delta State. Two intact classes were utilized, with one class assigned to the control group and taught with story-telling, while the other class was assigned to the experimental group and taught with the futures-wheel method. Data were collected using History Interest Scale and analyzed using IBM SPSS version 25. Results: The results indicated that students taught with the futures-wheel method exhibited a greater interest in history than those taught with the story-telling method; and female students showed a greater interest in history than male students. Additionally, the futures-wheel is an innovative teaching method that can effectively motivate and sustain students' interest in history, and thereby preventing the subject from becoming extinct in secondary schools because studying history catalyzes national unity and development. The results also showed that futures-wheel method can facilitate and motivate students to brainstorm, think critically, perceive insights about problems, and proffer solutions. Conclusion: The study's implications suggest that continued use of the futures-wheel method in teaching history can enhance students' interest in the subject, preventing its decline in secondary schools. The researchers suggested that the futures-wheel method should be integrated into history teaching in secondary schools.","PeriodicalId":211051,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Modern Educational Research","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127645038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This led to examining the relationship between gender and academic procrastination amongst postgraduate students in Anambra State in this study. Methods: A research question and a hypothesis guided the study. The study adopted a correlational research design and was carried out at Nnamdi Azikiwe University and Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu, Igboariam, both in Anambra State. The study population consists of 1,862 students, comprising all Masters and Doctorate students of the 2017/2018 academic session. The number of 2017/2018 postgraduate students in Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka are 1,088 while those in Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu Igbariam is 774. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the sample, which comprises 329 postgraduate students. The instrument for data collection was Academic Procrastination Scale (APS). The instrument was an adopted instrument. McCloskey originally developed the 25-item APS in 2011. The research question was answered using mean and standard deviation, while the hypothesis was tested, using z-test. Results: Findings indicated that there is no meaningful relationship between male and female academic procrastination of postgraduate students. Conclusion: It was concluded that male and female postgraduate students procrastinate in their academic endeavours.","PeriodicalId":211051,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Modern Educational Research","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116828316","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Digital game-based learning (DGBL) includes various features. Each user may be attracted to certain features of each game due to their individual characteristics. However, it is not clear how individual differences and teachers' scaffolding can affect learners' learning responses to learning-based digital games. Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore game behavior, scaffolding, and improving learning mathematics in DGBL apps for children. Methods: This study has examined Khan Academy as a DGBL application in mathematics subject in the virtual school classroom. The interview method is a qualitative case study. A total of 21 young students at the primary level in Iran participated in this (ages 6-8). The presence of the teacher with the students during the learning of mathematics and its effect has been analyzed. From two types of scaffolding, the presence of the teacher in the classroom was considered one by one and the whole class. Both types of scaffolding had an effect on students' learning. Results: The results of the data analysis indicated that users with high experience in cooperation and increasing social skills had better progress and higher socialization than users with low experience. This is in case the less experienced users have paid more attention to the learning concepts in the game. Conclusion: Thus, the teachers' scaffolding enabled students to discover their interest in mathematics more independently and to be more motivated and active to solve problems. The findings of this research can be helpful for framework designers in the field of children’s behavior in designing games based on learning.","PeriodicalId":211051,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Modern Educational Research","volume":"136 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133506981","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
