In this paper, we propose a framework for logging, MobileSens, to record users' operations on Andriod mobile device, including smart phone and pad. The operations include turning on screen, sending messages, and browsing the web, etc. This system uploads the data to server via GPRS(General Packet Radio Service) for further analysis. MobileSens monitors system events, and identifies any event that related to the user behavior. Recording the usage information could help us understand the user's intention and mental status, thus refine the user interface, then make these mobile devices serve people better.","PeriodicalId":210522,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Applications","volume":"367 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115472568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is clear that the combination of awareness, cost and usability is deterring parents from adequately protecting their children from mobile cyber threats. This paper discusses the issues surrounding parental control in smartphone-related devices. The paper will, firstly, establish the importance of parental control; and it will then outline initial research, which aims at providing possible areas where parental intervention could take place - in the form of parental control that potentially might reduce the risks of adolescent mobile Internet usage in South Africa.","PeriodicalId":210522,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Applications","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114188720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An approximate algorithm was proposed to calculate the maximum number of disjoint paths between the source node and the target node, which was used to evaluate the network reliability. A simulation was conducted on a supernetwork comprising four subnetworks to analyze the dependence of the network reliability on the connection between different subnetworks. It was shown that disassortative edges between different subnets can enhance the supernetwork reliability, but too more disassortative of edges couldn't be helpful to the supernetwork reliability; and when the density of edges between different subnets reaches the certain extent, the supernetwork reliability couldn't be largely improved but converge to the limit.","PeriodicalId":210522,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Applications","volume":"21 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129280212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Most existing collaborative filtering algorithms merely use rating data as their prediction input. Social tags have become widely used in web applications which not only reflect the user's personality but also item's properties and semantic meanings. We design an algorithmic framework by extending item-based collaborative filtering with social tags which we call IBeST. IBeST contains the whole lifecycle of the item similarity measurement based on social tags and improves item-based algorithmic results in four phases: dataset preprocessing, metadata injection, algorithm selection and optimization, and similarity weight selection. The calculated similarity is then used in item-based algorithm. MovieLens 10M ratings 100k tags dataset is used in our experiment. IBeST generates improved recommendation ratings than baseline item-based algorithms, and provides a feasible and loosely coupled solution to use social tags in item-based recommendation system.","PeriodicalId":210522,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Applications","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117124715","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A bistatic coordinate system for WiMAX based passive radar was proposed firstly. Then the bistatic radar equations were introduced in detail, also direct path signal power, target echo path signal power, noise, interference and clutter was analyzed. In addition, coherent integration gain and target bistatic radar cross section (RCS) was considered in radar equation to calculate the maximum detection range. The WiMAX based passive radar power budget simulation results demonstrated that the maximum detection range can reach 19.4 km for conventional naval ship and 4.1 km for cabin cruiser.","PeriodicalId":210522,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Applications","volume":"97 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123534038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While efficient management of tremendous spatial-temporal objects is a challenge due to the highly dynamic nature of the data, the demand for fast getting query results and minimum update cost. However, the query performance optimizations and the update cost minimizations cannot be achieved at the same time. In this paper, a novel approach is presented to get a tradeoff between those two. A spatial-temporal index mechanism named as Hybrid Spatial-Temporal Index (HSTI), which satisfies the time slice, time interval, event, and trajectory queries is introduced. The effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed index is validated through extensive experiments.","PeriodicalId":210522,"journal":{"name":"2011 6th International Conference on Pervasive Computing and Applications","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2011-12-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126064458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the current existing context aware schemes are almost general and indistinct. In this paper, a novel practical design of context aware based on DEF variable length equalizer (VLE) is proposed. By perceiving the relationship between time-delay and tap-length of the equalizer, we can get to know the communication environment approximately.
