An approach to testing the main assertions of the model, using a cross-study comparison of security perceptions from two different survey instruments is described. The first study, conducted in 1985-6, used a sample base of 1063 randomly selected Data Processing Management Association members. The second study surveyed 357 end-users in 10 organizations in the 1986-7 time frame. The data elicited by these research questions will be analyzed in the near future, but the analytical procedures are delineated in the article.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":209744,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. Systems theory and models of strategic human resource management are used to analyze its organizational implications. A framework viewing end user training as a critical subset of the human resource subsystem is proposed. A conceptual guide is developed that integrates strategic, managerial, and operational levels of decision-making.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":209744,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. The result of this appraisal is an infrastructure for designing systems based on what is known about managers instead of what is known about technology. Some of the studies summarized demonstrate the usefulness of novel information technologies such as electronic mail and group decision support systems relative to their manual counterparts. The demand for quick access to high-quality information underscores the advantages information technology has to offer. Recognition of the need for sophisticated scanning and monitoring activities provide the impetus for designing multimedia, document-based DSS and intelligent communication systems.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":209744,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. The respondents are senior information systems professionals representing 58 organizations of varying size in several different industries. Data were gathered via structured interviews and compared with similar data from 1978 and 1987. The results are used to examine the relative importance of the six skill requirement areas identified in the information systems curriculum recommended by the Association for Computing Machinery.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":209744,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. This system is fully integrated with the expert system and is used to illustrate its planned airloads and to modify these loads interactively. The user is given a selection of images of people who embody easily understood points of view. A user can choose a guide as a companion while browsing the database. At each database node the user is provided with the guides next choice and thus can follow the interest path of a certain type of individual. The graphical tools and interface provided to the text, graphics and sound database are presented. The design and functionality of alphabetical and topical indexes, multimedia tours, timelines and animated maps are detailed. Future directions for development are indicated. The concept of guides can be easily generalized and applied to other databases.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":209744,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. The factors leading to the need for an ICS conceptual-theoretical framework for sociotechnical systems design are identified. The frameworks's relation to the assessment and delivery (movement and management) of information is elaborated. The axiomatic assumptions and the epistemological platform supporting and guiding the framework are derived.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":209744,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences. A review of the more significant of these underpinnings is presented, including the early and modern wired city concepts and pertinent telecommunication theorems and technologies. Functional specifications for an exploratory model of a wired city are presented. The aim is to provide social and telecommunication planners, engineers, and researchers with an integrated interdisciplinary overview of current developments in the wired city concept.<<ETX>>","PeriodicalId":209744,"journal":{"name":"[1989] Proceedings of the Twenty-Second Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences.
