The PPR method is an extended version of the existing partial-transmit sequence (PTS), where the same numbered cluster signals at different antenna elements are weighted by the same weighting factors (WFs) and PAPR of OFDM signal is reduced by adjusting the phase of each cluster signal by multiplying WFs so as to minimize PAPR of OFDM signals. On the receiver side, WF estimation and error correction are jointly performed with turbo decoding, where WFs are estimated by exploiting the decoding results of two data streams passing through different channel in SDM-OFDM systems. When the PPR method using 9 clusters is applied to 64-QAM OFDM signal, instantaneous power of the transmit signal at the CCDF of 10-4 can be reduced by about 1.9 dB. In addition, when a peak limiter is applied to 64QAM-OFDM system using the PPR method, instantaneous power at the CCDF of 10-4 is reduced by about 3.1 dB as compared to case without any peak power reduction, while the proposed method achieves almost the same block error rate (BLER) performance in attenuated 12-path Rayleigh fading condition.","PeriodicalId":208126,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communication Systems","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128569630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With more transmit and receive antennas the capacity of MIMO-OFDM systems increases. However, when the number of demodulators is limited, it is essential to select antenna points which achieve selection diversity. On the other hand, through Fractional Sampling (FS), it is possible to separate multipath components and obtain diversity gain. Just like MIMO systems, FS achieves selection diversity by selecting sampling points. This paper presents an antenna/sampling point selection algorithm for MIMO-OFDM systems with Fractional Sampling. Utilizing the characteristics of the correlation among the sampling points in FS, the proposed selection algorithm offers significantly lower computational complexity than conventional algorithms. The proposed algorithm is confirmed through the computational simulations.","PeriodicalId":208126,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communication Systems","volume":"254 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131814535","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the OFCDM system with fractional sampling (FS) is investigated. FS is a diversity scheme with a single antenna, which achieves path diversity through oversampling and parallel signal reception. However, the correlation among noise components may deteriorate the bit error rate (BER) performance at the receiver as the number of subcarriers and oversampling ratio increase. To overcome this problem, the alternative spreading code is used for the FS OFCDM system. Numerical results through computer simulation show that the proposed scheme can improve the performance of the receiver with the large oversampling ratio and the number of subcarriers.","PeriodicalId":208126,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communication Systems","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134646261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Consequently, much research has been carried out on predicting traffic patterns in 3G networks. This paper introduces an access point centric approach implemented based on the order-k Markov model. The feasibility of this order-k Markov predictor is evaluated, and the prediction performance of predictors with different order values is compared. Finally, we conclude that the order-4 Markov model is competent for both the one-step-ahead and multi-step-ahead traffic pattern predictions.","PeriodicalId":208126,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communication Systems","volume":"205 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115166065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We find that the prerequisites of most previous studies are using an equal spaced pilots pattern and sample-spaced channels. This is not the case in practical systems. According to conventional pilot-assisted estimators, we develop an improved channel estimation method based on the criteria of least square (LS) for IEEE 802.16e OFDM systems. In this practical system, pilots are not evenly inserted in the frequency band and the non-sample-spaced multipath delay leads to channel impulse response (CIR) leakage in the time domain. The proposed uneven pilot-assisted CE method is conducted in the frequency domain and it uses a linear model to approximate the time-varying characteristic of CIR in the frequency domain during each OFDM symbol. Analysis and simulations demonstrate its low computational complexity, good performance and practicability in actual OFDM systems.","PeriodicalId":208126,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communication Systems","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115318920","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to its less complicated implementation using current optical and electrical components, OBS is seen as the first step towards the future optical packet switching (OPS). Regarding network topologies, the ring is extensively used on current metropolitan environments, and this does not seem it will change in the foreseeable future. In this paper we propose a new medium access protocol for optical burst-switched networks over metropolitan rings that enables the nodes to access the channel in a distributed way. This new protocol avoids burst blockings in transit nodes, turning itself into an efficient and simple burst contention avoidance mechanism. The use of this protocol maximizes the throughput of the network without deteriorating excessively other parameters such as end-to-end delay or ingress queues.","PeriodicalId":208126,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communication Systems","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115490112","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unfortunately, by aggregating traffic along any single dimension, the network manager inevitably loses some interesting information. While the network manager can expose this structure by using finer grained representations, such as flows, he then must manage the excessive detail contained in such a representation. We define our traffic clusters in terms of the five fields typically used to define a fine-grained flow: source IP address, destination IP address, protocol, source port and destination port. Unlike others flow monitoring methods, such as NetFlow and ANF, we only keep the heavy-tailed flows and sampled short flows on a non-uniform sampling method with the flow length. The aggregation traffic can be estimated by these sampled flows and can keep the estimated accuracy at the same time. Experiment studies show our approach can significantly improve both the accuracy and efficiency in network aggregation flow monitoring comparing to other existing approaches.","PeriodicalId":208126,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communication Systems","volume":"232 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123102086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The frame structure used for transmission plays an important role in the design of multihop networks as it manages the channel access and therefore determines the resulting network capacity. In this work we firstly propose a new simple and flexible concept to integrate multihop communications into the mobile WiMAX frame structure and compare this method with other basic concepts already proposed for the upcoming IEEE 802.16j release of the standard. Secondly, we introduce efficient capacity calculations that will allow intensive system level simulations in a mobile WiMAX multihop environment for the purpose of network design. Finally, network capacity is evaluated within a new simulation model for various configurations and services allowing interesting observations about WiMAX radio efficiency. Numerical results and discussion highlight the advantages and drawbacks of the selected strategies and provide a deeper understanding on the range extension aspect of a relay network.","PeriodicalId":208126,"journal":{"name":"2008 11th IEEE Singapore International Conference on Communication Systems","volume":"84 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121234429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
