The progress of students engaged in foreign language acquisition is often stymied by vocabulary attrition which leads to learners’ lack of confidence and motivation. However, among other factors, little research has investigated the importance of neuroplasticity in Foreign Language acquisition, and how under-stimulated brain loses plasticity because neural paths are underused which results in learner forgetfulness and lack of motivation. This research explored the effect of enhancing vocabulary acquisition of EFL students in the Foundation Year at King Abdulaziz University through various methods and neuroplasticity exercises that reinforced their attention, motivation and engagement. It analyzed the results to determine if stimulating the brain of EFL learners by various physical and mental activities led to the improvement in short and long term memory in vocabulary retention. The main data collection methods were student surveys, assessment records of teacher, student achievement test results, and students' follow-up interviews. A key implication of this research is for the institutions to consider having multiple varieties of student activities promoting brain plasticity within the classrooms as an effective tool for foreign language acquisition. Building awareness among the faculty and adapting the curriculum to include activities that promote brain plasticity ensure an enhanced learning environment and effective language acquisition in EFL classrooms.","PeriodicalId":207653,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The 2nd International Academic Conference on Management and Economics","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122074467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nigeria currently faces the challenge of acute shortage of Nurses and Midwives coupled with frequent industrial disputes which continue to have devastating impact on healthcare delivery. The purpose of this paper was to investigate the influence of organizational factors such as competence development practices, work-life balance, perceived organizational support and organizational commitment to employees on hospital-based registered nurses and midwives’ job satisfaction, affective commitment and turnover intention. Using cross-sectional survey design a stratified sample of Nurses and Midwives (N=220) from six public hospitals in Ondo State of Nigeria was obtained via a self-administered questionnaire comprising five sections. Regression analysis showed that competence development practices, work-life balance, perceived organizational support and organization’s commitment to employees have significant positive relationship with registered nurses’ job satisfaction and affective commitment but a significant negative relationship with turnover intention. Results of the study highlight the important role of organizational factors on nurses’ job attitudes and may benefit health care organizations and hospital administration as they seek to improve nurses’ commitment, job satisfaction and retention.","PeriodicalId":207653,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The 2nd International Academic Conference on Management and Economics","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115077004","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Nowadays more than ever, the role of the teacher is so close to the role of the student, as teachers teach and at the same time are taught in a continuous environment of professional development. The meaning of teacher’s development is found in their personal and professional lives, as well as in the school environments in which they work, since the nature of their profession requires to be committed to the direction of their professional development during their careers. However, teachers are not required to participate in all European countries and their non-participation has no negative consequences. The lack of associate teachers and the cost of the training programs are a disincentive to participate in them in many countries.","PeriodicalId":207653,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The 2nd International Academic Conference on Management and Economics","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129064156","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The objective of the study was to design and test an instructional system that supplements the traditional lecture and provides opportunities for the development of agentic engagement. In support of the instructional system design, the study examined ways in which university undergraduates used a digital backchannel, determined if using a digital backchannel affected agentic engagement, and identified the features of a digital backchannel that influenced student agency. The study employed a mixed methodology design using a questionnaire to collect quantitative student profile data and phenomenography to conduct a qualitative inquiry into participants’ experience. The population for this study consisted of undergraduates at a private, international university located outside of Bangkok, Thailand. A total of 171 participants took part in this study, with ten students selected for a focus group through a non-probability, purposive sampling. Overall, the study found that a lecturing system that employs the strategic use of a digital backchannel can promote student agentic engagement. Student agency and instructor effectiveness were both positively influenced through the employment of an instructional system.","PeriodicalId":207653,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The 2nd International Academic Conference on Management and Economics","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126164586","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Roy","doi":"10.33422/2nd.iaceducation.2020.10.30","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.33422/2nd.iaceducation.2020.10.30","url":null,"abstract":"With the introduction of core competencies in training medical students, schools have redefined learning objectives. Core competencies have included communication skills into all Basic Sciences courses. Most medical schools have adopted an integrated curriculum which includes small group learning. The students working in groups transcends diverse backgrounds and learn to communicate effectively. Here, at UMHS we are introducing small group learning using clinical cases. Students work together to solve cases and present them. Case Based Learning (CBL) has been used extensively in US medical schools with great success. BACKGROUND: Patient care in today’s medicine is interdisciplinary. The role of the Pathologist is that of one who makes a definitive diagnosis and interpret various ancillary lab tests. In recent years the importance of Basic Sciences and how it relates to Clinical Medicine has come to the fore. It has been suggested that medical students in Pathology should know the mechanisms which underlie diseases, know how to diagnose them using histopathology/labs, and apply these to clinical scenarios. Competencies also stresses the need for having excellent communication skills. Communication skills is a must to reduce errors and improve patient management. Introduction of integrated Basic Sciences with self-assessments is the way to improve communication skills. Using Problem Based Learning (PBL), Team Based Learning (TBL), and Cased Based Learning (CBL) in recent years have helped in improving learning as it more engaging, encourages collaboration within student groups, and improving communication skills. OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this presentation to show how CBL improves learning Pathology. METHODS: Analysis created from Examsoft and survey examines performance of 80 students. FINDINGS: Results are awaited. DISCUSSION: CBL in Pathology has shown that students learn better in groups. Teamwork transcends diverse backgrounds and improves communication skills. UMHS Pathology department plans to build cases which covers learning objectives effectively.","PeriodicalId":207653,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of The 2nd International Academic Conference on Management and Economics","volume":"46 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120847596","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
