AI simulated in programmed to mimic human brain behavior learning, reasoning and problem Many computer algorithms to previous waves, this latest wave of AI by deep learning algorithm which is inspired by how human brain processes information through interaction of neurons. The first simplified mathematical model of neuron, the formal neuron, 1943. In this model, a neuron receives a set of binary inputs from other neurons, multiplies each input with the weight (i.e. the strength of synapse), and activates if the sum of these weighted inputs is greater than a threshold. More than 70 years have passed since this simple model was proposed and we are now seeing many examples where AI beats humans. In this symposium, we have speakers from two pairs of pharmaceutical and IT companies that have recently announced big partnership for AI technology, and they will present their recent development and application of AI, and their future prospects. I hope we can learn many cases of applications of AI to biology, pharmacology, drug discovery, and pharmaceutical business.","PeriodicalId":20464,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings for Annual Meeting of The Japanese Pharmacological Society","volume":"95 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-10-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80430153","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since MCI may increase risk of later developing dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease (AD) or other neurological conditions, it is important to detect and treat MCI early in order to prevent dementia. Causal discovery, which can visualize causal relationships (cause and effect) among data, has recently been attracting attention. One of its algorithms, the Linear Non-Gaussian Acyclic Model (LiNGAM), can extract causal relationships among variables from statistical data only, using probability distributions of variables that are generally non-Gaussian. In this study, we used LiNGAM to analyze gene expression data in the hippocampus of healthy subjects and of MCI patients, and also the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores, which are used to assess cognitive decline. We found that cell adhesion molecule 4 (CADM4) gene regulates cognitive processes that are measured in terms of MMSE scores. Our results revealed a causal relationship between gene expression changes and MMSE scores, and allowed us to identify the genes responsible for cognitive decline..","PeriodicalId":20464,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings for Annual Meeting of The Japanese Pharmacological Society","volume":"1 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"77737297","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
